Hi everybody :hatwave
I had great service from a relatively new motorcycle tyre dealer so I thought I'd share it all with you.
I recently discovered that I needed a new rear tyre, so I contacted my usual tyre guy however he is still on holidays :fp so I started looking around for somewhere to get a new tyre.
During my search I came across a relatively new place that goes by the name Dave Oliver's motorcycle tyres

I had a look at his website and Facebook page and it seemed like a good place, so I gave him a call, I had a chat about what was on the market and what he would recommend then booked in to get a new tire put on the back later that day.
(This time around I decided to go with the Avon Spirit ST)
Anyway I rocked up at Dave's shop and I must say it is a great setup, the whole area is open, carpeted and very inviting. Dave encourages riders to hang out with him while he does the job and have a chat (He even has his own bike in the shop to show people what he uses) :thumbsup
While he was doing the tyre change he also greased up everything that needed greasing up, gave advice on tyre pressures and whatnot then checked the pressures in both tyres.
All in all it was a really good experience and I recommend anyone on the northside of Brisbane that's looking to get a new tyre to check him out

I had Avon Storms I my CB1300 (pre-ST1300), IMO they were the best I had on the CB. I didn't know Avon made a tyre for the ST, I'm glad you found it - for the rear. Did you check if they have a suitable front tyre? Either way, I'm looking forward to some reports on handling and wear.

I'll let others ask what pressures he recommended, I don't wanna start a shyte fight.

Great info, Oh Shiney One :-++ I need a new rear as well so I'll give him a buzz.
Did he 'Moly' the final drive for you?
I used to run Avons on my '80s bikes. I too am interested in your thoughts on handling. Probably a bit soon to ask about wear. :grin

The Spirit ST will suit both STs with tyres to suit both OEM front/rear sizes

That's excellent, Shiney. He's a lot further away from here than Simon, but the fact he'll let you into his workshop is unique and worth the trip. Apart from the fact there's no room, Simon (and just about everyone else) won't have a bar of it. And his idea of a waiting room is a cardboard carton to sit on at the end of one of the crowded aisles of merchandise.
So... How much for a pair of Avons fitted?
It would take a lot to drag me away from the Pilot Roads! Can't fault Simon's prices.

I took my son's bike there and was also impressed. It is the cleanest tyre workshop you will ever see. Meticulous comes to mind, and I think that is also reflected in his work. He does love a chat, so make sure you alot plenty of time.

I find the rear wears quickly enough in the centre at 42 PSI. I'm thinking it would be even worse for premature wear in the middle at higher pressures. :think1

You may need to find more corners and scrape the pegs a bit more to get a bit more value out of your tyres. :whistle

I needed a new rear for the weekend so I thought I'd try out an Avon from Dave Oliver as well. He seems very methodical and thorough, and after looking at the wear on my PR4GT he recommended that for 2-up riding with my wife (of undisclosed weight :Wot thuh:) I should run 46 rear.
He used a high-temperature grease on the final drive but it's not moly paste. Any thoughts on that? I'm wondering if in future I should take some Moly paste with me.

Molly paste is what Mr Honda says, and on long hot trips grease can dry out.... Molly is actually a dry lubricant so it doesn't care :-) Molly paste is 40-60% Molly disulphide, where as Molly grease is only 2-ish %

Just advising and not wanting to go off topic here but Honda Moly 60 paste is no longer being made for Honda will get harder find.
M77 assembly paste is what they are offering now but there is some discussion on the various forums (not just Hondas) as to whether it's similar.
