Title: newbie to St1300
Post by: zevk on October 21, 2012, 06:45:10 AM
Hi all!, Just took ownership of 2005  :13Candy   !!

Pristine condition 48,000 km new tyres, and expect handover this Friday!

Have been riding since age 12 and have had mostly Jap road bikes.

I want to mount a GPS holder for my TOMTOM XL (not a RAM mount, as they are a bit clunky imo)

I have the gps  16 mm socket and ball type,  weather proof case from my previous bike and have ordered a simple ball stem bracket to mount.
My question is, has any one mounted directly onto the stem plate of the bike?  I prefer the unit directly in front of me, not off to the side.

Also where is the best place to install a switched fuse (at the front of the bike, not under the seat) box for aux items and which wire (or relay terminal)  is best to take power from?

all help would be appreciated greatly!

Great web site / forum and thanks again,

Zev

Welcome Zevk!

Great crew around here, I put a dash shelf into my ST so everything is directly in front of me, I know Whizz has just put a shelf into his 1300 that's looks very professional, that could be an option for you, I am sure if you send him a message he would be happy to talk to you about it.

On a second note, the Victorians are having a lunch ride on the 4th of November if your interested in meeting a few of the faces, here is the link to it: http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=2411.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=2411.0)

They are a great bunch here, always happy to help and are funny as anything

Hi again!

Thanks for the warm welcome amd advice.

I really dont want to put a shelf on my dash just yet, just wanted a simple gps mount above the stem if available cheaply?  I ordered this part yesterday and will see if it suits...

Welcome zevk.
One of the most popular and I think best mods to an ST1300 in the Helibar handle bar riser. There is has an option of a with a ram ball mount that maybe what you are looking for.
