It's more like a sticky wax rather than traditional parafin or bee's wax. Similar to 'Sex Wax', (surfboard wax) it provides traction in wet conditions. Sex Wax itself is designed for gaining traction on a wet fibreglass (non-porous) surfboard. You could even try surfboard wax, except I would put it on like a thin layer of polish rather than just arbitrarily rubbing it on thick.
(there are other brands of surfboard wax as well as Sex Wax)

Pockey, I've tried hard to resist! Truely, but.... but..... but....... Damn, my upbringing prevents me from writing it......
