There has been discussion re OzSToc evolving over time and what its structure will look like. I think it will help the discussion if we know the balance between working and retired members and those who are overworked :-(((
This will help us understand members availability when rides, RTE's are planned i.e weekday versus weekend.
Example - I am a Paramedic on rotating roster, oncall 24hrs a day and only get 1 weekend off a month, I also am a retained Fire Fighter NSW Fire and Rescue oncall 24hrs a day, I am a Director on the board of the RSL club, I volunteer with ST John Ambulance at a regional professional level.
Planning to get to rides is harder on weekends so weekdays would probably fit better for me. Let us know how you fit your riding in :grin

I'm semi-retired - that doesn't fit into your poll. I work about 10 hours a month and ride the rest of the time.

While not in the league of Tony, I am Working Full time, Own a Work wear & Safety Business with my Sister and my parents, work around 65-70 hours/6 days a week.
2 young kids at school, attempting to plan a wedding, fiancee works full time as well, we live off our Year planner to get free time to do things such as spend time together, do stuff with the kids, go to rides, and take some time to myself :rofl
Have this motorcycle club that i spent a bit of time helping with to....

Voted for "Retired - Ride time not an issue" but have about 18 years of neglect to fix at home, grandfather duties, my monther is 94 (95 in July) is in a nursing home near Penrith heance 8 to 10 trips per year of about 2 to 3 days to Penrith (so there goes one month). . Theresa is still workinfg so also do a few domestic jobs around the home.
Also doing a reasonable amount of travel. This calendar year will see me with a total 7 weeks overseas and about 10 weeks within Australia. So ride time is a little bit of an issue. Gee life is hard :grin

I'm refired, not retired. Was 'let go' from my previous job in Newcastle NSW 6mths ago at age 61, and am now working in Whyalla SA, (lucky me). Only 3.5yrs to go to to be my own 'boss', well, almost my own boss, the missus is still around. Looking forward to many happy miles, and smiles.

I went for retired and volunteer as that is the closest to where I am at. I have no problems with mid week rides but realise others don't. I have to fit in between other ride commitments, and I haven't even started to look at volunteering as yet.
When suggesting ride dates and places yet another factor to work with, one which I am well aware of with our many members who are part of emergency services (hope that is the correct general term!)
I am looking forward to some discussions in Maryborough about how all this fits in the mix of organising events :think1

Same primary employment as Tony, Paramedic with NSW Ambulance Service for the last 22 years.....and same roster as Tony....when not onduty/on-call with ASNSW.......then On-Call with the NSW VRA (Volunteer Rescue Association) as Rescue Trainer/Operator.
Mrs ST2UP who loves to ride as much as i do is a Nurse at the local hospital doing shift work.
18 year old and 13 year old at home.....
So from a day ride point of view we have more days off mid-week, but with enough notice (months and even years for longer rides) can and will make it work.

Retired sparky, wife employed full time, my 2nd daughter has been bitten by the Black Dog so I have the responsibility of getting my grandson off to school and afternoon pickups, cleaning house, maintaining 2.5 acres and cooking meals.
Apart from all that I have stuff all to do.

Was forced to become unemployed in February 13, desperately looking for a new job, otherwise I am a domestic king, can't afford to ride to much as I don't have an income, Debbie is still working full time and have our 17 year old son at home.

I know where you are Sac. I'm there too.
Bit of heart bypass work in '11 with a three month window to recover.
Nineteen months later (Three looking for work) and I'm still income less.
Spent '12 studying to meet the change, but no go so far. :CB--
We're lucky the kids are grown ups, and working. (28yo & 24yo)

Working full time at least 10 hours a day every second Sat & occasional Sunday too, No hols can be taken in March so I'll never get to the National Rally while I'm working :cuss
Co Car so the bike sits there forlorn most of the time tho it does get looked after, the missus reckons I buy more prezzies for it than her :well

Working full time as a Funeral Director for the last 8 years and 3 and a half years part time prior to that. Some days have VERY long, draining hours and weekends are also taken up at times. The missus also works for the same company so she at least understands the hours i have to work. Kids are all grown up but i definately dont get enough ride time as much as i want to.

Back in Oct 2010 I was I finished work with Coles Express and relocated back to SA. Someone had to come back to SA and be there for our aged parents. My sis living in Calista wasn't able too, so that left poor ol' me.
So far I haven't found work over here, not even in the city where I can commute on a weekly basis. I wouldn't mind getting my truck licence but not able to get the assistance via the job search provider as it would cost to much.
If it wasn't for the 1100 we might be worse off. At least we can hook up the trailer and do a shopping and/or fishing trip at either Port Pirie or Port Augusta once a fortnight. Maybe a trip to dad's place in Loxton on another fortnight, friends in the city etc on another fortnight. If we just had the car I doubt we could do that every two weeks.
In winter the car just gets used to take the trailer over to the saw mill at Jamestown for the off cuts for our lounge fire. ($20 a trailer load, we pack it in)
Sometimes on the off pay week it gets a little tight but we still manage the 40km ride to Jamestown or the state forest on the Sunday.
Ozstoc has given us a chance to do something different even if it means combining an RTE with a shopping trip.
Our next item on the menu is this years border ride.........Just over 2000kms return for us......just over $200 fuel and two nights free camping........nice way to spend a week-end.

I don't have an issue with that.........though not sure when I can get back on the bike after my hernia op.......see doc in a couple weeks.
We do get to Whyalla sometimes........my wayward daughter lives over there, as does one of my twin grand-daughters. Also Heather's Auntie has now moved over there so it's highly possible another trip over will happen when the doc gives the OK.

Deputy Fire Control Officer with NSW Rural Fire Service at Picton. Work a 5 day week normally, unless its the Fire Danger Period, then can be anywhere, anytime. Have stuff on some weekends, but generally free. Have a wife, Penny, who is showing signs of catching the bike bug and hope to have her fully infected in the next couple of weeks with a new acquisition. Am able to take time through the week if required but the weekends are normally easier. Seems to be a lot of emergency services people amongst this lot.

Retired/stuffed/etc
Was a Draftsman in last job and thoroughly enjoyed it (first time in an Office Environment) previously in the construction industry and a Jack Of All Trades Master of 1 Joinery Trade (wood only)
The Black Dog / 6 collapsing discs in the neck stuffed knees vascular disease / diabetes / aneurysms, Obesity have all come together not enabling me to work,,,,So now hobble around the garden a little - play games on the computer + study Maya and the only thing that really keeps me going is riding the Steed and the great family I have in this club.
wouldn't be dead for quids. :runyay

I'm a Nurse with Hunter New England Area Health Service at our local Hospital, my position has me employed to work a 0.6 (6 shifts per fortnight) but this never happens and between 0.8 and 1.0 is the norm for me.
Fantastic and rewarding job some days :wink1, and gut wrenching on others :-[ and wish I could move to a less emotionally demanding career, but then, I keep going back for more :p
Kids are 18 and 13
Our long term plan is to spend as much time as possible with bitumen under our tyres and a beverage in our hands. :wink1

I think this discussion gives food for thought about non-weekend events. I am already in discussion with various members about during the week rides/meet ups. Perhaps if the various members with free time outside of weekends could just post up informal meets? At the moment for me weekdays are just days to use to go on longer rides to meet up on weekends, as well as fitting in normal old boring stuff.

I'm self employed as a welder fabricator and designer.
To be honest I sort of expect retirement will be similar to what's going on now.
I work my weeks to give me time away which might be weekend away or much longer. I probably work enough to go ride and cover the usual stuff.

Drive a truck with a trailer in the streets of Perth. Starts are around 6am, truck loaded and out the gate is 17.00.

Kind of employed... Been picked up by a recruitment agency to do temp back fill work for their clients. Their currently working up a portfolio to my skill set.... May lead to permanent employment....

Marcus, I was a Career Fire Officer responsible for ensuring the Training Standards and Targets, allocating trainers to courses and instructing on advanced courses as well as attend major fires as part of the Incident Management Team within a defined geographical area.
But, in 2009 I got a new boss and we clashed straight away and had a very bad relationship (because he was a bully) when the Newman Government wanted 60,000 public jobs to go each department had to nominate how many jobs could go. The Fire Service nominated 300 and the Manager surrendered my position without consultation. However there is still a person working in that position and it still exists. And just to be sure, he returned my service medals which were about to be presented to me so I lost them as well.
So, I found myself unemployed at 50, with a very specific skill set and basically unemployable as I have applied for just about everything that moves. Even applied for a job at the sewerage treatment works as a labourer and didnt even get an interview.
This recruitment company contacted me as they had received my résumé. They have contracts with a number of employers and I'm on a contract as a stand by.
So if a company wants to back fill a truck driver for leave or something they'll contact me and off I go. I get paid by the recruitment company. It's like a labour hire but slightly different.
Well that's me in a nutshell and my tale of woe....That's probably more than you asked for.... :'( :grin

Well, I reckon that if you can do things you want to that is a good thing :thumbs Hope it all works out, and of course you can still do various rides.
I have still to work out the route and timing of getting to Biloela, but have taken on local knowledge (which Sabie supplied) so will just adjust to whatever I need to do.

For someone who was going to off for 3 months (90 days) things didn't get back in hand as planned.
This may mean I have to alter the availability schedule for some RTE's, but it also means adding some farkles to das machine from the money someone is going to give me each week.
This, I feel, is positive, as without the loot, ya hafta give all the good idea's the boot. :)

I have already begun celebrations with Mr favourite guests, Mr Johnny Walker and his American cousin, Jim. At the weekend a few friends of vintage joined a few other friends as well. By Sunday night we all agreed that life had it's moments and we could ride any bloody thing. :crackup :grin

:dred11 I became Medicaly unfit for work as a Bus Driver back in 2010, had a year of Chemo in 2012 and STill waiting for a clearance from Doctors to resume driving again.. income on DSP is tight so I save to go on roadtripping,, :dred11

I am still working full time with most of my rosters being either afternoon shift 1600hrs to 0200hrs or nights 2100hrs to 0700hrs.
Usually too tired to do anything but sit in front of the TV or the computer reading the jokes and comments on this forum.
Weekends off are rare hence, i havn't been on a RTE yet since joining. I thought it was a good suggestion for mid week rides.
Bike is in perfect conditions but the tyres keep going flat so they need to be turned more often.

I'm retired, well, I was until I became a Volunteer Ambulance Officer with Tas Ambulance Service. I'm rostered on 24-48 hours each week but sometimes fill in for another Volly, so that can stretch out another 12 hours or so. When I'm on call I'm on for 24 hours straight, so sometimes I can be out all day and night, depending upon how busy we are. As a Volly they train us up to a very high standard, the only thing we're not able to do is administer intravenous drugs. We also spend at least 2 hours training each week to keep our skills up. I've been doing this for now for the past 4 1/2 years and love it.......it's just so rewarding.
Because my lovely wife has MS I do all the food preparation and cooking, most of the house cleaning etc. Been doing that now for the past 17 years so no big deal! Also got a couple of boys (14 & 16) still at home with me so always running them around somewhere. Teach karate for a couple of hours each week, and that helps to keep me sane. However in spite of all this I never have a problem finding time to ride, I can always (at least most times) change my shifts around provided someone else can fill in for me, and although my wife is unable to join me on my rides, (she'd fall off) she never winges about my riding off for the day.
I consider myself extremly lucky as I worked in the Printing Industry for 54 years and was never out of work during that time.
I just love where I'm at right now! :grin

I know this is off topic, but here are my two youngest boys who are both members of the Australian Air Force Cadets, James 14 & Michael 16, and I'm so proud of them! :grin

Thats Great Couch - I spent 8 years in the Air Cadets at 32 Flight at RAAF Wagga Wagga. I got to go overseas on an International Air Cadet exchange to live and train with the Ghurkas in Hong Kong :thumb It will give them a great start in life :thumbsup

HI all, I am working full time as a correctional officer, shift work and work 2 out of 3 weekends.
I find it hard to get out on any organised rides, but a mate an I usually get out once every 3 weeks or so for a ride and a coffee somewhere. Once a year in late Feb early March I go on a tour of the Snowy's, Canberra way, same mate comes on that. We just take a swag and a map and go where ever looks a likely spot.

Good stuff Tony, the boys have just returned from 7 days general service training at the Air Force Base at Sale in Victoria, the Defence Force sends them over every year, if they want to go of course, this is the second time they've been.

try my roster .....28/9 .....but I only get 7 days off due to the requirement to travel all bloody to work and home from work . 4 weeks away from home and then only 7 days to play with kiddies , do the business with the wife and attend to household handy man stuff ...... argh!

When I voted I was working full time. Well I retired on Sunday, 30/03/14, after 35.5 years in WAPOL.
I thought I'd have more time for rides in the future, I didn't allow for a wife in the equation though.
Is there some way of changing my vote now?

Working full time and have a young family. My work is roster based and can be any time of the day or night depending on the shift. Generally I can request for days off up until 2 weeks prior to the start of the week in question. Therefore 2 weeks notice for me is a minimum to plan to possibly attend any rides.

Good on ya Dave, enjoy your retirement mate.........I just love it, after having worked for 54 years without ever being out of work it was just heaven not to have to get up early every day, not to be faced with the stress of driving through city traffic, not to have to put up with demanding clients, not be tied down to specific times with appointments, and just the general stress of the whole damm business!! I love my retirement, and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!! :grin

Hi everyone. I am currently working part time as a driver/carer for a community transport mob in Penrith. I have been there for ten years now as I work 4 days a week and can have time off whenever I want it. I was employed in the NSW Police mostly in plain clothes for 31 years before I got smashed up in a car whilst working and put out of the job medically unfit at the age of 51. My wife still teaches French at a nearby private school and has no plans to retire as she loves it (no accounting for some people is there!) We are lucky enough to own everything and as a consequence I am going to retire completely at Christmas. We have 40 acres in the Hawkesbury which is very time consuming and I find that as I age, naturally I am slowing down. I have also been a Deputy Captain in our local Rural Fire Service, Tennyson for the last 20 years and get called out at all hours. I intend to become even more involved here and also ride a lot more. I usually ride during the week with mates (no traffic don't you know), and want to do a lot more. My wife and I love to travel and have been lucky enough to do one and some times two over seas trips a year. I would like to become more involved in this club/forum and look forward to meeting more of the members and possibly sharing some great rides. Unfortunately my wife will not ride with me as she was frightened out of her wits when she was a teenager by a rider who thought it was clever to ride like a lunatic. Stay safe everyone........

Don't rush into adjusting to the change. It's a big step, and for quite a while you will probably feel like you are on leave, so take your time and smell the roses.

We are taking it slowly but I am starting to enjoy not having to get up early to go, or think about what needs doing. Taking Ruby for tyres today and then look after two grandkids this afternoon. Very pleasant and relaxing. Mmmm. Take care. GC

Lucky I was forced into paying superanuation when I was YOUNG, now retired 16 years it is the best time of my life (but getting towards the wrong end) and I am just ripping into my super....Hope they do not go broke before I kick the bucket.....

Same here, I started Super when I was 18, I only wish I had an income so I could continue to pay into my Super, but at the moment it's mothballed waiting for a job to come along.

Retired 5 years ago, have two wives (my computer and the ST) and two dependant cats.
I eat when I want,
I sleep when I want,
and I ride when I want, and can afford to. (and whenever I can organise a baby sitter for the cats)
Still trying to work out how I even had time to GO to work....
