OK. In Middleton I suggested I wouldn't be able to attend the 2014 Rally as I doubt I'll have enough annual leave (something about my wife wanting to see that WallyWoofter Hugh Jackman in a Broadway musical :|||| ). So, here's my thinking. I spent about $700 on fuel plus about $240 on accommodation (excl. Middleton), and then food for the 2013 Rally.... let's say that I dieted for 2 weeks, so it cost $1000 (I know those who have met me will be laughing now). That's $1000 that can go to airfare and either bike rental in VIC, or bike transport from Perth to Melb and back. :think1
Can anyone make a suggestion for either
- the transport option.... I don't want to pay rediculous amounts, but also wany Little Miss STealthy to arrive safely, or
- somewhere in Melbourne where I could rent one? Now, this begs the other question.... we ostracised a certain pair of Goldwing (at least it was a Honda) and BMW riders... what would happen if I turned up on something like a little Japanese 250, or dare I say, something big, loud, range limited, and American?

Or perhaps someone in VIC has a 2nd bike they'd consider renting out?
-
well as glenn who came on a gold wing, and TerryB's friend on the BMW, you are perfectly safe come on any bike you want, just be prepared for some good natured ribbing....

Check out a quote from these guys. http://www.bikesonly.com.au/index.php (http://www.bikesonly.com.au/index.php)
Adelaide to Ballarat is a one day trip, so consider saving some dollars and just transporting your ST only as far as Adelaide, and riding over on the Friday with some of the SA crew.

Interesting thought Pete.

I will ring Bikes Only in the morning and have a chat, they may do a bulk discount.

Ouch!.... while they're cheaper than others, still.... ouch!.... Perth depot to Adelaide depot is $762. Times 2 for the return. Includes basic transit insurance (fire, theft, roll-over, etc.), but no incidental damage to bike (scratches, etc.).

Ok lets ride Wild Hogs!

Gasp :eek I thought there was a bike shipping company that made deliveries all around Oz for about $200 per bike. I'll check with a mate of mine who shipped a bike from Brisbane to Adelaide and find out who it was and what it cost.

This seems to be the cheapest I've found so far... this is one way

I just rang them, and they quoted me $760 over the phone for Perth to Adelaide.

Got a nice lady who, after I explained about number of bikes possibly coming over, she is going away and going to get back to me with other alternatives and discount

About 3300kms from Perth to Ballarat.
My average is around 16 k/l riding two up and towing a trailer so that works out to about 206 litres one way for me. At say a $1.80 average for fuel that is about $370 one way.
Apart from food going across and if you camp for free like we do then it's still cheaper to ride. Oh and add a few dollars for using showers in roadhouses.

:hatwave
Qantas have flights from Perth to Canberra for about $239 each way say on the Wednesday/Thursday, 19/20 March 2014 and back on Tues/Wed, 25/26. Virgin possibly cheaper?
I have a spare ST1100 we could come to an arrangement on, we could ride to Ballarat on the Friday, return on the Monday, you are welcome to stay here on the nights (days too . . LOL) when not travelling to/from Ballarat. Saaz and Lionel may join us for the ride? If you can spare more time away we could take the long way to or from Ballarat?
