It's quite pretty up there.... Actually, it would be a great venue for a national rally one year.

Sounds to me like you've just put your hand up for a job!      :thumbsup      :grin

Biggles, I would be happy to coordinate or assist to coordinate a North Qld Rally if it's ever chosen to host a rally.

But there's north (NT) South (Tas) East (SEQ) West (WA) to be considered first by the powers that be.  :wink1

We're the hard riders- we go to extremes.  We did East (Blackheath) and south once, second coming up.  So it's Far North or Far West that's due for a turn.

Well, South has had a good run, so your vote for West might have legs.  I think there's one or two clan members over there.  There's definitely one with "West" in his handle.

We are still having to get through 2014 first! and there is only one man you have to petition for the National rally location, and his ST runs on alternative fuels! Just remember this is a discussion and great place to throw up ideas, all great for the man in charge to consider his options  :thumbsup

Well done, Streak.  Thanks for setting that poll up.  Will run to many pages before 2015, I'm sure.

It may be appropriate for the "powers" to consult with key members from candidate states before making an announcement about a State and venue.   It would then be possible to make a decision, knowing that there are key State people who are prepared to take on the task of selecting a venue and undertaking the organizing.

That's certain to happen, I'd reckon.  S.A. wasn't railroaded into running Middleton, as I recall.  Ditto Ballarat.  And Sabie has his hand up.  Then there's a bunch in WA still getting home from work who are always keen.  Tasmania presents the unique problem of the wide creek that's to its north.    :eek

Although I do have my hand up for a NQ Rally, we do need to consider a venue that will attract our OzSTOC members, NQ may be a deterrent due to the distance that the majority or bulk of the members would have to ride. So for example SEQ members, it's a solid 2 day ride, 3 to 4 days for NSW and Vic and a good week for SA and WA.

Remember there are more people in the south and west to travel north than northern members to travel south.

I do like the idea of a core selection panel with representatives from each state deciding instead of an individual choosing (no offence big D) and with today's technology it wouldn't be difficult to link up a online conference call for the discussion or decision.

We would need to consider date changes god FNQ or WA.
Don't mind a ride but March is a bit sticky up north for the southern softies and the big bit across the middle is just too bloody hot.
Never under estimate the predictability of stupidity.

If and I mean a big if FNQ was selected you may not need to change the date or month if the Atherton Tablelands was the destination as due to the elevation temperatures would be down a little.

If it goes back a month to April it'll be a little cooler and more comfortable. I've been sussing out a few venues, just in case.

I'd be happy to help out if FNQ became a Rally Venue.. Atherton in March is quite pleasant.. :) And plenty of great little known venues :)

and a good week for SA and WA.

From where I live Atherton Tablelands is about 2750kms so I reckon four/five nights on the road each way without rushing it.

We have been discussing the future locations of the National Rally behind the scenes, and the general consensus is to release the STATE location for the next 2-3 years, but still release the TOWN/AREA announcement as part of the Annual Dinner Festivities.

It was thought that this would:

a) preserve the heightened anticipation of the location announcement; and
b) allow for those of us who need to put leave applications earlier than the rest to have some idea of how long they need to make the round trip - e.g. Derby W.A., Fremantle W.A. and Ballarat VIC take substantially different efforts to get to from where you live.

I think this may be a desirable result for most.

Cheers, Diesel
