:dred11 Just wondering if there any tolerance level on play with crush rubber,s .
Thanks in advance

I a little play I doubt would be an issue.
More important to check the rubbers for cracks.
If in doubt remove the retainer plate and remove each rubber and check the hub side. Sometimes the rubber can fail and cause the insert to wear the wheel.
Check that the thrust washer in place before you put the drive spider back in. It sits between the wheel bearing and spider. Item 7 in the link. Good time to do the three o rings as well. Items 23 and 24.

The third O ring is item 37 from here https://www.st-1100.com/st1100-parts-fiche-final-driven-gear-st1100ax.html (https://www.st-1100.com/st1100-parts-fiche-final-driven-gear-st1100ax.html)
Since the wheel is coming you don't forget to grease the splines with moly paste

Thanks Alan , i will try and share a video of the travel in gear , your opinion would be greatly appreciated

The rubber is not the important part, the aluminium bush, item 3 on the first link is where the wear starts initially, I replace both every tyre change, costly but cheaper than the final drive.

From his video post on the Facebook page I would say it could be splines as well and possibly shaft related - there's an awful lot of free play and noise while in gear and it looked about 25mm of movement. I advised that he should pull the wheel out and check everything out.

Thanks Yorkie and Alan .
Even though i am absolutely devastated by this news and spent a sleepless night trying to come up with a repair plan going forward . Appreciate any input i receive , thank you both from the bottom of my heart .
Have you guys a part supplier contact , as a matter of urgency a local and for a price comparison , international.
Really hope this is not terminal for my beloved Big HONDA .
Regards
Big Gaz :'(

I can give a local site but each dealer would have slightly different prices

Worst case for the final drive are the splines. The complete unit is N/A in the US so a repair would need at least item 4 (crown wheel/pinion) https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/final-driven-gear (https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/final-driven-gear)
Not something I would do myself as it's not just a simple fix. Shims are generally needed to make sure it lines up correctly.
I found a good used final drive on eBay for a couple of hundred dollars.
Rear wheel related.
With the above repair you would need item 8 (drive flange) and all the cush-drive parts are here as well.
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/rear-wheel (https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/rear-wheel)
Another possible cause could be the universal joint on the drive shaft
Item 1 here https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/swingarm (https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1995/st1100-a/swingarm)
Until you remove the wheel and check it all out we're just looking at worst case scenario.

im absolutely sure after wheel removal final drive removal that its a universal joint .
Crush rubbers where worn , order up new set associated o rings and thrust washer
Bugger all slop till i turned the drive shaft and bingo thats where th problem starts and finishes .
If you guys could give me instructions on tail shaft removal , that would be fantastic .Then i could order the appropriate parts for reassembly.
Cheers Gaz
