Title: windscreen mod for $3.00
Post by: zevk on April 01, 2014, 07:47:12 PM
in effort to  :think1 create more air flow under and over the stock windscreen:

I purchased a set of 4, 75 mm zinc plated mending plates from Bunnings for $3.00, 4 x 6m bolts, 4 x nylock nuts,  2 coats primer, 3 coats matt black spray.

This has increased the gap significantly between the nose fairing, as well as creating "hinge" for an extra 10 cm vertical movement, if required,  as a bonus.

it is just a sturdy as the stock hardware,  in all directions.

less helmet noise noted already, after short ride.  :beer

It's such a neat job and looks great that he no longer has to speak, just admire the work, hence no talking reduces helmet noise.

Good work ZEVK, can you do it for a 1100?

What's a mending plate?

Wait how would that create less helmet noise?
Windshield now sits higher forcing air higher over top of helmet instead of around ears, thereby reducing helmet noise would be my guess, same as what the lip does on top of the Bike Quip screen  :wink1
The Bike Quip screen moves the air about a foot higher reducing buffeting and noise for rider and pillion  :thumb

Reduction in helmet noise is due reduced turbulence behind the screen. Spacing the screen forward allows more air reduced back pressure, most after market screens have ether holes or a larger opening at the bottom of the screen for that same effect.
