Kate and John (Scarlett Thunderbolt) would firstly like to thank the venue and the NSW team for organising a really enjoyable Wooli NR2017.
We've been to two NatRallys now, Toowoomba NR2015 and Wooli NR2017, and we'll be basing the Mackay NR2018 on these experiences. One thing this year's event has made clear is that the best we can do is keep it simple. Most OzSTOCers will have travelled a long way to get to Mackay next year, and cramming too much into the experience will not provide the best enjoyment. There's plenty to see and do if you're looking for activities, but for the rest of us we'll allow time to unwind, relax, socialise, have a beer in the sunshine and enjoy your surroundings. Our two weekend RTEs will offer members who haven't visited this area a chance to experience some beautiful tropical landscapes and memorable rides along the way.
The timing of the event on 10-12 August 2018 has been carefully planned to avoid any local or national public holidays, school holidays, Ulysses or Black Dog rides, Konvoy for Kids, or large local events such as QME (which gobbles up cheap local accommodation). It's also at a time of year when the weather will be warmer than that in more southern states, without the overpowering heat and humidity of high summer in the tropics.
For those who may be planning to come with a caravan/motorhome, we'd recommend booking your spot very soon. We're on the grey nomad route and much of the caravan accommodation is pre-booked months in advance. The event is within their peak season, so if you want to guarantee a place, do get in contact with the Big 4 Marine Tourist Park at https://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/qld/mackay/mackay-marine-tourist-park (https://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/qld/mackay/mackay-marine-tourist-park)
Tel: 07 4955 1496
379 Harbour Road, Mackay, QLD 4740.
Cabins and tent sites are not in such great demand, so you can probably leave booking those a bit longer if you're not able to commit yet. We will publish prices soon, and when you book, please remember to quote OzSTOC so that we're grouped together. Please remember that you can keep prices down by sharing cabins. The holiday park has plenty of cabin accommodation varying from two to six people, and the camping sites vary from unpowered, to powered, to powered en suite, so there are options for every budget. If you're a Big 4 member, you'll receive a 10% discount. Once you've booked, please register, and if you're happy to share a cabin, say what cabin number you're in and how many beds you have available.
The Big 4 Marine Park is situated on Harbour Road, Nth Mackay, with the Marina, breakwater and Harbour Beach nearby. If you're feeling energetic, it's in walking distance from a small shopping arcade at Ungerer Street, 2km away, or more shops, takeaways and a pub at Evans Avenue / Malcolmson Street, 3km away. Otherwise, it'd be 5 minutes by bike or car, or there's a regular bus service into town from outside the holiday park. Stock up on grog and groceries when you arrive and you'll never need to leave...
We've found a spectacular venue for the rally dinner, but seating is limited to an absolute maximum of 80, including the guest speaker, so it'll be a first come, first served deal. Register promptly to secure your spot :-) Late comers may find themselves without a ticket to the ball and no fairy godmother to the rescue. However, the venue also does very good pub meals, even if you can't get into the function room, so it would not be an absolute disaster.
We're trying to keep costs down, and to this end we're appealing for any members who hold an MR or higher truck licence, to help with driving a 20-person Coaster bus on the night. As an added 'bonus', this role offers a non-drinking clause.... :-( If anyone is able and willing, please could you contact us. John (Scarlett Thunderbolt) and Chris (ST2UP) have already put their hands up, so you wouldn't be alone, but another couple of drivers would speed the transfers up.
If anyone would be willing to lend a hand with catering for the Friday night barbecue and breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday mornings, we'd love to hear from you. If you could let us know in the next couple of weeks that would be great. If we get no response, we'll be asking local organisations if they'd like to raise some money for their cause by doing the catering instead, but it seems to make more sense to keep the job with the members to cut down on admin and avoid the possibility of arrangements falling through. We are working on providing a marquee adjacent to the barbecue hut, with lighting and PA, seating and tables for everyone, which will provide an under-cover meal and club gathering space for the duration of the rally.
For those not arriving by bike or car, Mackay gets several flights a day on Virgin, Jetstar and Qantas; no TigerAir unfortunately, although they do fly in to the Whitsunday airport at Proserpine (an hour away so we can't offer pickups there, sorry). Kate will be available for Mackay airport taxi service for those who are coming in by plane. We can take 3-4 passengers and will have the closed trailer behind the car for luggage. However, if anyone else will have a car with them and is willing to make themselves available in case of need that would be greatly appreciated. In addition, there are always regular and maxi-taxis waiting to meet flights, but you're looking at a 10km ride to the Big 4, so it would be worth sharing if you happen to be on the same flight.
We're proposing to use lanyards at Mackay NR2018 with a pocket for name badge, meal tokens, etc. We're hoping this will prove easier than moving name badges from shirt to shirt, and will give those who currently have no name badge a club ID which could be used again at future events, local RTEs for example.
We really liked this year's rally shirt, so next year's will be based on the same idea, construction and fabric. They're smart, comfortable and a lot more useful than the T-shirt from previous years. We look forward to revealing the design closer to the time.
We're still working on getting prices and quotes for everything, and hope that up-front prices will soon be available to help you all plan and budget for this event.

If only everyone had Nigels enthusiasm & excitement for National Rally :beer
Anyone who has been to one before certainly has that enthusiasm- present company included. They seem to be addictive, and I've been blessed every year that nothing else has stopped me going. I also attend our annual CMA National Runs, and they sometimes come close to coinciding (missed by only one week this year). In 2015 I missed what was to be my second trip to Perth in that year when I retired and we moved house in the same week as the CMA Run. Next year ours is in Tassie in October while OZSTOC Nat Rally has moved safely away into August. QLD CMA will be hosting the National Run again in 2023 (it cycles around the 6 States) and we think we'll move to August also since our memorable washout this year the weekend of 13-16 October.
-
Hi everyone. Unfortunately due to certain circumstances myself and Flash won't be able to make this rally. It's a shame but the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. I hope you all have a fabulous time and we will try to get to some RTEs soon. :hatwave
-
Accommodation has been booked for sometime, route to Mackay planned and now as Theresa will still be working her flights are booked.

Accommodation for Carrol and myself has been booked :thumbsup
We will be in a Seahorse Villa from Wednesday 8 August through to Wednesday 15 departure :grin

Bookings made... :runyay for Alison and myself. we are in Coral Villa and booked 09.08.18 till 13.08.18.
The lovely lady wasnt aware of any OZSTOC discount , so looks like as we are not Big 4 members we pay full price. :think1 Were we too early or was there no discount arranged.
She also advised we are spread out over the park not grouped together. 8)
Justin

Booked!
If you're a member of Big 4 (costing $50 for 2 years) you get 10%. The lady said she wasn't doing a discount for us because it's their peak season, but when she looked at what our new OZSTOC neighbours were charged, she gave us 7.2% discount. ;-*
-
The fact we're not sited together won't matter as much as at Wooli which seems to be a much bigger park. This one has the cabins all together in the middle:

Darn- missed noting my 11111th post by one.
Anyhoo- I wouldn't leave it too long to make a booking folks, if it's their peak season...
-
Hi Folks,
Unfortunately I am going to have to give this one a miss... it is way too far for me to ride, and it is also around my son's first birthday and my wife would not forgive me if I headed off to Mackay... I cannot wait to attend one of these, maybe next time, or the following year if she will let me.

My chances of making Mackay were slim anyway but once I heard about 2019 they became even slimmer. I shall do my best to get to Tasmania (*pending family commitments).

Looking less like I will get to Mackay, but JW and I are going to check out Tassie in March of 2018, but, depending on 2019 dates, I will hopefully make it to Tassie again in 2019 . . .

Capt Thunderbolt & Ree coming with bells on, need a holiday. Unfortunately Tassy is out summer is when Nev makes the money :||||

If that's true about Tassie being in `19. I`ll be there. Spent a few years there as a young tacker , really want to see some of the old towns I lived in. Part of the Hydro Electric scheme that the OM was involved with.Gowrie Park being one of them> :wht11

MACKAY
Tropical North Queensland NatRally2018 Update Having seen the results of the member survey about the Wooli rally and venue, we put our
thinking caps back on to consider how we could make things more convenient for members
attending, and we think we’ve come up with a great solution.
Rather than packing everyone onto buses to a dinner venue some distance from the Rally
caravan park, we’ve managed to hire the Mackay Indoor Sports Arena next door for this
purpose. The MISA is well used to this sort of thing as they hold end of season awards night,
the space is generous, they have an air conditioned lounge/bar area, and best of all, they’re
a mere 200m from the caravan park, right next door. You don’t even have to go out the gate,
you can just walk through. The Rally Dinner will be a choice of two roast options and a
vegetarian option. GF and other dietary issues will be catered for if you advise us in good
time. There will also be two dessert options.
During the times MISA is open, the bar facilities will be available to us. (Friday 9am-9pm,
Saturday 9am-to the end of our dinner; Sunday 9am-1.00pm; Monday 9.00-10.00pm).
Please note that we do not have exclusive use of the place during normal operating hours.
They have a limited range in the bar, beers only, so if you want something specific to drink
with your meal, let us know, as they’ll lay it on for you; specialist beers, spirits or wines.
Please note that as they are licensed you cannot BYO.
In addition, the MISA will host the Friday afternoon collection of rally packs, the 5pm meet
and greet, and the welcome BBQ at 6.30. They will also lay on breakie for Saturday and
Sunday mornings from 7.00-8.30am. (Thumbs up).
We will hold the rally photo call at the Mackay Harbour Breakwater, along the sea wall right
at the end of the breakwater, with the sea and islands in the background. There is plenty of
space for parking the bikes and arranging the members for a photo. Members are all
requested to wear their rally shirts.
The Saturday RTE will now go out to Eungella for a light lunch. This is not a marshalled ride,
so we will hand out maps and directions for those who do not have satnav. The Eungella
Chalet will lay on finger food along the lines of what was provided at The Laurence Tavern
for the Wooli rally, and there will be no problem with seating as they have plenty of space.
Returning from Eungella you will have ample time to catch up with friends, see a How-To,
shower, change, have a drink and generally chill out.
On Sunday after breakie, those who are staying on will be able to take part in the RTE to the
Old Station Teahouse for morning tea (again, maps and directions will be provided if
required), followed by a ride over to the Eimeo Pacific Hotel, perched on a clifftop
overlooking the sea. We thoroughly recommend taking this in for the sensational view and
the excellent food.
Sunday evening will include the customary ‘take-away run’ for fish & chips, pizza, etc, at the
caravan park. Some of you may have signed up with ST2UP for the fishing charter, and this will
kick off early on Monday. Please contact ST2UP for more details on this, if you’re interested.

BIG4 Mackay Marine Tourist Park are now taking bookings for NR2018. The owners have asked if members would
preferably book by phone and quote OzSTOC when booking,
to ensure that they (and we) can keep track of accommodation booked and group members together.
Do please let the Park managers know if you are happy to share, or if you wish to be sole occupiers.
Booking via the website does not offer the option of adding additional occupiers at a later date,
or grouping OzSTOC members together.

Thanks for the call on Friday, John.
I'm home again (after picking up another 34 town signs for the spelling game).
You and Kate have excelled yourselves, getting all those ducks in a row. Pretty exciting stuff.
Now we just need a few more folks with the time and inclination to travel to North Queensland.
Just for those buying a piggy bank for 2019- I'm going to Tassie this year with CMA for our National Run. The trip across the Strait and back with a share (with 1 other) cabin and the bike and my Senior's concession costs $479.14 :eek

Hello Everyone, :hatwave
I am in the early stages of planning my trip from Sydney to Mackay (1786Km) but the wife wants me to travel in group in case I break down again.
I was thinking on leaving very early on the Wednesday 8/8 stopping at Goondiwindi (about 750 Km) for the night, then to Rockhampton (about 660 KM) for another night on the 9/8 and arriving Friday (around 340 KM) 10/8. The return trip I haven't worked out yet but thinking of heading back very early Monday Morning and getting back to Sydney by Wednesday. I am open to suggestions and although I am a very heavy snorer, if you're game, also open to sharing accommodation.
++
-
I haven't registered yet, but contemplating leaving Brisbane on Thurs 9/8 to Rocky, stay with my Brother for the night, drive up to Mackay on the morning of the 10th. Party, and a leisurely drive back to Rocky or Gladstone on the Monday 13/8, and then a leisurely drive back to Brisbane on 14/8 in time for the Ekka show day (not that I'll go) public holiday.
Booked into the last available Seahorse Villa.

Sadly Ros and I won’t be attending this year after attending every National Meet since the first at Blackheath. We are still doing short tours (2 or 3 days) on our Tracer but Mackay is beyond our Touring limit. As we no longer have our ST, we don’t have that common interest with OZSTOC anymore. Unfortunately, this will probably become an increasingly common story as time goes on and the ST population diminishes.
We hope it all goes well.

That is a very sad state of affairs, but all too real, I'm afraid.
Maybe we'll end up being like the Laverda Club- holding on to vintage motorcycles because we can't surrender our first love (or something like that).

Despite moving to a Beemer, I firmly believe that OzSTOC is more about the relationships with people, and less about the bike.

Here is maybe some help for members planning to ride up to Mackay in August… Kate and I have just returned to Mackay from a two-night road trip on our STeed, to attend the Goomeri RTE.
We were two-up towing a trailer… my best guess is 450km per tank… usual speed 100 – 115kph (FI light comes on over 117kph)
Bowser Prices BanBan Springs – ULP91 $1.429/Lt
Puma Calliope – E10 ULP94 $1.439/Lt (with 4c/Lt off for RACQ discount)
Puma Monto – ULP91 $1.459/Lt (with 4c/Lt off for RACQ discount)
Caltex 524-528 Yaamba Rd, Rky Nth - E10 ULP94 $1.419/Lt
United Ilbilbie – ULP91 $1.419/Lt
We stayed two-nights at The Albert Hotel in Monto (see our review on Trip Advisor) and we did have an enjoyable stay… $75/night.
There are three different sealed roads from Monto to Rky… we tried two of them on the trip.
We recommend using the Bruce Hwy in preference to the alternate route shown, from Biloela - Middlemount - Mky. A few reasons come easily to mind - high fuel prices, the route carries alot of mine traffic (fuel tankers, buses and people in too much of a hurry) and it's kangaroo alley.
Monto – Bilo – Dululu – Rky : shortest route, by only about 10kms, but bumpiest… particularly the Biloela to Mt Morgan section.
Monto – Bilo – Calliope – Rky : best road, longest route.
Monto – Boyne Valley – Calliope – Rky : didn’t go this way but is the shortest sealed route from Monto to Calliope/Gladstone.
Cheers, John & Kate.

Bugga :'( As the bikes and our bodies age it will become more about catching up with good mates and friends we have made over the years ;-* No one cares how you get there, just that you do, so jump in the car and make a longer trip just that bit more comfortable :thumbs
Or fly in and rent a bike or car. It's only money, and more important issues are at stake here.
NO bike rentals within cooee of Mackay.
I'd imagine hiring a Harley in Cairns and riding down would not be a pleasant experience.
* I notice no Marcus on the rego list :o

I remember in discussions at Wooli that there was a possibility of some bikes rentals
or such for Mackay. Possibly. You know my memory

OZSTOC NR2018, MACKAY
August 2018
(https://image.ibb.co/eYO9Vo/Oz_STOC_Rally_2018.jpg)
To help you all get in the mood for NR2018 in Mackay, we'll be putting up a series of posts to highlight activities and attractions for both NR2018 and the Mackay area.
We'll kick off with the two RTEs of the rally itself, and then move on to things to see and do.
Rally Run-Up No. 1: Saturday RTE – Eungella & Criterion Hotel
Rally Run-Up No. 2: Sunday RTE – Old Station Teahouse and Eimeo Pacific Hotel
Rally Run-Up No. 3: Mackay on a Plate
Rally Run-Up No. 4: Beyond the Rally – things to see and do around Mackay

NR2018 Run-Up No. 1
Goodes Lookout, Eungella and Pies at the Criterion Hotel, Finch Hatton.
Saturday 11th August 2018
(https://image.ibb.co/eYO9Vo/Oz_STOC_Rally_2018.jpg)
After breakfast at Mackay Indoor Sports Arena (MISA), we'll then ride out to the end of the Mackay Harbour Breakwater for our group photo.
Once this is done, it'll be time to head out on the first ride of the NR2018 weekend. The first destination is Goode's Lookout at the top of the Eungella Range, followed by a little bit of back-tracking for pies at the Criterion Hotel in Finch Hatton. It's a pretty 106km ride up the Pioneer Valley, through Marian, Mirani, Pinnacle and Finch Hatton, then 18km back to 'The Cri for Pies'. The route passes through canefields and rolling farmland on good roads, leaving behind the trucks and caravans of the Bruce Highway. Please remember that this is sugar cane harvesting season, and there may be tractors hauling cane-bins and the cane train crossings will be in use. The trains have absolute priority over road traffic, so keep a lookout. The final stretch of the ride includes some challenging twists and turns up the Clarke Range.
Goode's Lookout has sensational views back up the valley. It sits at an elevation of 1,259m, and on a clear day, you can see all the way back to Mackay and the sea beyond. There are public toilets and enough parking for all the bikes if you want to stop and stretch your legs, admire the view or take some photos with the valley laid out behind. Once we're all at the top and have had a breather, it'll be back on the bikes and back down the range, taking all those twists and turns in reverse!
Lunch is arranged at the Criterion Hotel in Finch Hatton, known for its pies and the generosity of its portions. There is ample parking for the bikes out the front.
'Cri Pies...'
This is not a marshalled ride. The following Google Maps link gives a route map for those who do not have a GPS, but your best option is probably to ride with a friend who does! Please note that there are 6 cattle grids on the range, all well signed.
Google Maps link:
https://goo.gl/maps/H4bT5QYRbPv
Lunch for NatRally members will consist of your choice from a menu of 15 different pies (see below), with platters of chips and salad and a soft drink. There's a Vegetarian option, and they also offer a GF crepe wrap with the same filling as the pies and GF gravy.
The cost is $15 per head, payable at registration on Friday. You will be issued with a meal token to present at the Criterion for your meal.
The Criterion has asked us to let them know how many of which pies are likely to be wanted so they can ensure a good supply of freshly made golden beauties for our visit. Can you please PM John with your choice of pie so we can give the Criterion a number.

NR2018 Run-Up No. 2
Morning Tea at The Old Station Teahouse
& Optional Chill-Out at the Eimeo Pacific Hotel
Sunday 12th August 2018
(https://image.ibb.co/eYO9Vo/Oz_STOC_Rally_2018.jpg)
We know that some members will be packing up and heading for home on Sunday, so we've designed a two-part RTE to offer maximum flexibility.
We'll start the ride at the Big 4, and head north out of town to Cape Hillsborough. This is best known for its dawn sightings of kangaroos on the beach, but after the previous night's Rally Dinner, we think most members won't want to get up that early (5am? You can not be serious!) so we're taking you to the Old Station Teahouse (https://www.facebook.com/theoldstationteahouse) instead, for a lavish morning tea. As the name suggests, it's an old wooden station building which has been set down in the middle of beautiful tropical gardens. Tables and chairs are dotted around, and there's also a large deck under a huge fig tree if there's a lot of us. The Teahouse serves the best freshly baked scones, home made jam and cream in the area, and and the tea and coffee are also excellent. There's also a delicious GF cake option.
Again, this is not a marshalled ride. We have linked a Google Map route (https://goo.gl/maps/aiKhQDuMyF42) to the Old Station Teahouse, with a return to the Big 4 afterwards.
Google Maps link:
https://goo.gl/maps/aiKhQDuMyF42 (https://goo.gl/maps/aiKhQDuMyF42)
Once you've refuelled there, we'll head south, back towards Mackay. At this point you can choose whether to return to the Big 4, or onwards towards our Northern Beaches. Our next destination is Eimeo, and the 1930s Art Deco Pacific Hotel (http://eimeohotel.com.au/), perched high on a clifftop overlooking the islands and the Coral Sea beyond. If you still have an appetite, you can order yourself a lunch from their menu of excellent pub food, or simply enjoy a beer and drink in the view - it's sensational!
The linked Google Map (https://goo.gl/maps/vqApDBHLgj52) will take you from the Teahouse to the Pacific Hotel and then back to the Big 4.
Google Maps link:
https://goo.gl/maps/vqApDBHLgj52 (https://goo.gl/maps/vqApDBHLgj52)
The Old Station Teahouse morning tea of two large scones, jam and cream and choice of tea or coffee is $10, payable on registration at the Rally on Friday. You will be issued with a meal token to present at the Old Station Teahouse to pay for your morning tea.
Lunch at the Eimeo Pacific Hotel is optional, so please choose and pay for your own meal if required.
Cheers
John & Kate

Rally Run-Up No. 3
Mackay on a Plate
(https://image.ibb.co/eYO9Vo/Oz_STOC_Rally_2018.jpg)
Mackay can offer some great places to eat, from classic Australian man-sized steaks to ethnic cuisines, to fine dining. If you're staying longer than just the three days of the rally, why not try something a bit more interesting than basic pub fare or a takeaway pizza?
Here are some of our favourites:
The Austral Hotel: https://www.theaustralhotel.com.au/ (https://www.theaustralhotel.com.au/)
Excellent steaks and pub fare
The Paddock & Brew Co: https://www.facebook.com/pg/thepaddockandbrewcompany (https://www.facebook.com/pg/thepaddockandbrewcompany)
Always busy. American-style food and craft beers
The Railway Hotel, Marian: http://railwayhotelmarian.com.au/hotel (http://railwayhotelmarian.com.au/hotel)
Very popular, for good reason. Outstanding food and generous portions. Out of town, but well worth the trip
Sorbello's*: http://www.sorbellos.com.au/ (http://www.sorbellos.com.au/)
A large family-owned and run Italian restaurant. Warm, friendly service, excellent value and great Italian food, with lots of choice, including V & GF. They also offer a takeaway service.

Family owned and operated Greek restaurant, a popular Saturday night destination.

BURP: http://burpeatdrink.nefood.com.au/ (http://burpeatdrink.nefood.com.au/)
Modern Australian, locally sourced produce and an imaginative menu.
Latitude 21: http://www.mackayaccommodation.com.au/mackay-restaurant (http://www.mackayaccommodation.com.au/mackay-restaurant)
Elegant, upmarket surroundings and a menu to match
Galleons: https://oceaninternational.com.au/galleons-restaurant-mackay (https://oceaninternational.com.au/galleons-restaurant-mackay)
Scarlett Thunderbolt's own 'special occasion' destination. A gorgeous waterfall/poolside setting, a great menu and meticulous service.
Church on Palmer: http://www.thechurchrestaurant.com.au/ (http://www.thechurchrestaurant.com.au/)

We hope this selection will have fired up your tastebuds. Bon Appetit!
Cheers

In addition, we have some great local markets (https://www.dailymercury.com.au/news/guide-nine-of-the-best-markets-in-the-region/3155487/) which are well worth exploring if you're in the area at the right time.
Head for the hills:
In general, Mackay is on flat land at the foot of the range, perfectly suited to our chief crop of sugar cane. But we do have our local high spots, giving a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside, the sea and out to the closest islands of the Great Barrier Reef.

But wait till the National Rally is over so it is not overcrowded

There's heaps more to be done along the way, but it'd take several visits to do everything, so we've picked out our favourites for this post. Best of all, for scenic ride and wiggly-road enthusiasts, our part of the world has some really wonderful riding country amongst all the other attractions, especially around Townsville and the high country above Cairns.
We look forward to welcoming you to the North :hatwave

Any idea if the proposed fishing trip is still on the radar ?
Sorry CK, haven't a clue about this one; the fishing charter was something ST2UP was looking after. BTW, we're working on the NR2018 nametags - can you let us have your first name? Send a PM if you'd prefer to reply that way. Otherwise, you could end up with Secret Squirrel... :grin

Rally Run-Up No. 6:
A NatRally Info Toolkit
(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/06/14/ca5ccd901172b69cd9059177330aab32.jpg)
We have put together a 'toolkit' of information you might find useful whilst you're visiting for the NatRally. All the suggestions given below are the nearest option to where you'll be staying. There are alternatives to most of them, but for the sake of simplicity we've gone with those you can find and reach quickly and easily. We're suggesting you bookmark this on your phone or tablet for easy reference. The links take you to Google Maps, using the simplest and easiest-to-remember routes.
Your address: BIG4 Marine Tourist Park, 379 Harbour Road, North Mackay 4740 (https://goo.gl/maps/WG3CQN43RUF2)
If you are planning to arrive by plane
If you are flying in and do not have a hire car or other ride organised, please could you contact Kate by phone (see below for number) or by PM (Scarlett Thunderbolt) before the rally. If possible, she will meet your flight and bring you to the BIG4. Otherwise, taxis meet every flight (Fare would be approximately $36). If you are flying home on Sunday morning, Kate will not be able to provide a ride as she'll be on RTE pickup duty, but Sunday afternoon should be possible.
Car hire options at Mackay Airport

Avis 07 4953 0821 Europcar 07 4952 6269

Mackay Airport to BIG4 Marine Tourist Park route map (https://goo.gl/maps/zA3q6LtTeX12). Please note that we have selected a straightforward route that avoids the industrial area and CBD.

Motorbike and Rider Recovery
During RTEs, John will ride with the bike riders and his phone will be hooked into his helmet intercom so if you get lost, call him for directions. Kate will be operating a pickup/recovery service, driving a 4WD and towing a trailer with motorbike wheel-clamp which will accommodate an ST1300. If your motorbike is involved in an accident or develops a fault, she will bring you (and your pillion) and your bike back to the BIG4, or alternatively to our home if the bike is clearly unrideable, so that you can avoid charges for recovery and storage. However, she will need assistance loading and tying down the bike, so we are asking other riders to offer help with this.
After the Rally
For those riding home and in need of a full fuel tank before they set off, the cheapest fuel in Mackay is available from Pacific Petroleum, at 15 Turbo Drive, Paget (https://goo.gl/maps/gCzoG9BacK52). This is a 24-hour unmanned servo with EFTPOS facilities only, but the fuel is consistently 5-10 cents/litre cheaper than the big chains. The bowsers operate a pre-paid service, so you need to calculate how much fuel you need, work out the cost and prepay that amount. Not quite as simple as a standard servo (especially first thing in the morning!), but worth it for the saving.
We hope we've thought of everything you might need. If there's something missing that you need to know, PM us and we'll update this post to include it.
Cheers,
John & Kate

hi Shiney... thank you for your very positive feedback... it's good to hear that our information is going to be useful... we've tried to think of what we'd have liked to know, if we were visiting from afar... hopefully some of it will not be necessary, but it's there if needed... and of course you know that Kate put together 99.9% of it... cheers, John & Kate.

Well done Kate :hatwave
I'm sure the info will come in handy
I will print it all out before heading off
Thanks for all your hard work :chocolate-box-smiley-emoticon

NO.

Once again, excellent research and comprehensiveness. That's a brilliant service, regarding possible breakdowns etc. We're all in your debt for the amount of work you've put in by yourselves up there- at least equivalent to every other Rally where in most cases there were more than one rider contributing to the organisation.
-
I'm putting together a "Mackay Portfolio" to take with us, based upon the great information that John and Kate have put together. Thanks. ++
-
This looks like it is going to be a great rally , Big thanks for all the Info that you have put out , it is going to be printed out prior to the rally , also for all the RTE info and the other things to see and do , this will be my first time to Mackay . it is the main thing I like about Ozstoc , the People and the places I get to see. Again a Great effort. :Like: :Like: :Like:

NatRally Fishing Charter Info:
Just received word from the final Charter I contacted.....and while many are keen to have us our requirements of group size and day charter only don't marry up with their boat sizes etc. Not in the Mackay area anyway.....few in Cairns though.
If anyone else is keen for a crack at any of the more obscure charters feel free.....or wish to arrange there own smaller charter. There are companies that do small groups of 4 fishers.
So at this stage we can call the group charter a non starter :'(
cheers

... there's something else that we're working on with Mackay Kawasaki, but it's going to depend on how many OzSTOCers will still be around on the Sunday ;-*

I wish I could make it (would be on a kwaka too), but the planets haven't aligned for me this year.

Maybe Honda will take note of the support being offered by a competitor.
I don't mind the lines the 1400GTR Transcontinental Supersport :girl-blowing-kiss-smiley-emot

Mackay Kawasaki very generously offered some financial support to the HONDA ST Owners Club to have their logo on the 2018 NatRally shirt when Honda in Mackay chose not too disite the same offer and the first approach my the Mackay rally team...... Naturally it is any businesses choice to support what they wish.
I'm sure Honda Mackay would enjoy a visit from a member or 2 in the Rally Shirt :whistle :whistle .......just say'in :butt

Lots of great news posted in the week I have been away.
I slipped out to Isa on an IBA ride and took my time coming back.
For whatever reason, I can never log-in when away from home, without getting ST2UP to do a fiddle for me. I even purposefully logged out at home this time before I left and it still wouldn't let me log in. Hence no Daily Quotes for a week.

Are we having the "Buy-Sell-Swap" table at this NatRally?
-
Are we having the "Buy-Sell-Swap" table at this NatRally?
No reason why not. We have the time and enough space. We could do it on Saturday afternoon, at the same time as Shiney's How-To. We can provide a couple of folding tables, since we won't be able to use the MISA for this, they'll be setting up. The Big4 has lots of open grassed areas we can use.
Anyone out there interested in taking this one on and running a thread to set it up? :Whipped

I'd better do something useful since I'm nominally on the Organising Committee- so now there's a Thread! :p :grin

We were over there at the Big4 this morning to sort out some details and asked about the disappearing map. Seems they've taken it down to be updated, as they've done a lot of renovations recently and things have changed – for the better!

NR2018 Mackay
The Loose Ends
Are you getting excited yet? We are!
The 2018 OzSTOC NatRally is almost here, and we're trying to finalise some of the details.
It'd be great if you could take the time to read through this and let us have any answers that are relevant.
The Saturday RTE:
The following members still need to advise us which pie they want at the Criterion Hotel,
choosing from the menu photo shown below.
If you don't choose, you may have to make do with whatever they have left over,
rather than enjoying a fresh pie made specially for you :-)
Capt Thunderbolt (x 2)
tding
(https://image.ibb.co/i77Bd8/Rally_Run_Up_No_1d.jpg)
The Saturday Night NatRally Dinner: For the NatRally Dinner, MISA is stocking the following:
Beers: XXXX Gold, Great Northern
Wines: White: Chardonnay, Riesling
Red: Pinot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Please note that the Mackay Indoor Sports Arena (MISA) is licensed, so it's not possible to BYO.
There is also a fair selection of other beers and UDLs available.
Please be aware that as MISA is a sports arena, so drinking vessels will be plastic rather than glass, for safety reasons.
MISA takes eftpos, and there is also an ATM handy if you'd rather use cash.
The Sunday RTE: Can any members who will be staying on for the Sunday morning RTE let us know, if you haven't already done so?
We know many of you will need to start for home on Sunday morning and won't be able to make it,
but if you can stay on for The Old Station Teahouse morning tea RTE, we need to know numbers for catering purposes.
We've already heard from the following that they'll still be here, so you'll be in illustrious company ;-*

If you do plan to stay, please add your name to the list.
Also, if anyone's lucky enough to be able to stay on till Sunday evening and STraggler's Night,
there's one final activity we're trying to organise for Sunday afternoon, but it's only viable if there will be enough takers.
If we get a reasonably close idea how many of you will still be around, we'll know if it's a goer.
... this is a hint...
So hopefully the Sunday STayers will have one more reason to hang on!
If you are staying on, please ensure you have a supply of cash for the evening meal, as some venues will not split a bill.
Cheers
John & Kate.

I'm good for Sunday as well. Not leaving until Monday. Regards, Rod

will be there sunday
Thanks mate, noted. We've had a look back and can't see if you've chosen your pie; you're one of the last few who hasn't nominated a choice. Can you take a look at the menu and let us know? Thanks.

NR2018 Mackay
An alternative to the Sunday Snooze...
We told you last time that we were trying to plan one last activity. Well, here's the idea.(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/07/02/08486364ca808c14f9462946b56b8c77.jpg))
When we were at Mackay Kawasaki discussing the possibility of sponsorship with them, Luke Burgess (the manager), mentioned that on the NatRally Sunday afternoon, he'd be happy to take the company jetski out onto Kinchant Dam and give members rides, and put on a bit of a BBQ. We told you he was a top bloke... So, we're trying to gauge whether enough of you would be interested in doing this, to warrant him giving up his Sunday arvo, faff about with the jetski and sort out a barbie – for a bunch of Honda riders, no less!(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/07/08/bc8a7dfd45a1738235fd5cab837c6c20.jpg)
Sunday arvo in the school holidays. Grim, isn't it...?
This is what Kinchant Dam is like. It's a very popular local spot for water skiing, jetskis, canoes, fishing, camping and picnics.
There's a café and amenities at the caravan park there (Kinchant Waters), if sitting with a cup of coffee and admiring the view is more your speed than whizzing around on a jetski.
The Kinchant Waters Café(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/07/08/8565a96ac05e8cc17ebde97d6bb9c917.jpg)
The view. Ah, the serenity...
The plan would be to head there directly after the RTE to The Old Station Teahouse. It's a 45 minute ride, using this route... https://goo.gl/maps/guCNtXehvb72 (https://goo.gl/maps/guCNtXehvb72)
The alternatives to this are heading out to the Pacific Hotel at Eimeo for a clifftop relax and a pub lunch (we've already posted about that), or you could head back to the BIG4 and lounge around to build up your STrength for the STraggler's Night... your call.
Let us know what you think. We know there will be at least 30 people still here on Sunday afternoon, but if there's only a handful interested in the jetski experience, we won't drag Luke out and put him to all that trouble. If a double handful like the idea of a waterside BBQ, even if not everyone wants to actually take to the water itself, then we're good to go, but we need to give Luke a heads-up, which is why we're asking for your response.
We'll leave the offer open for another 2 weeks and then we'll have to look at the numbers and make a decision.
John & Kate (Scarlett Thunderbolt)
Bill & Leonie (Biggles)
If you're interested, please add your name to the list.
So Sunday STayers, we hope we've given you one more reason to hang around!
Cheers
John & Kate.

I have decided that I will not go to the National Rally in Mackay this year
As posted elsewhere my Daughter Shelly had a little boy on Monday in Townsville
They are all flying to Toowoomba on Wednesday 8th August to show him off to family
So I will stay in Toowoomba to introduce myself to my new Grandson and spend time with my Daughter Shelly and Grandson Owen
So John & Kate can you cancel my pie order and activities in Mackay
Thank you for all the work you have put into this National Rally to make it a huge success
PC is picking up some returns for Stinky Pete tomorrow from my off in Adelaide and he is going to get my Rally shirt and pin
Thanks PC (OzSTOC couriers still working well) :hatwave
-
Enjoy the time with the family Leo.
I'd make the same choice.

High all.. this year I will be going to the Nat rally in Mackay thanks to a very generous member who is taking his bike up on a trailer,
He has offered me a ride and the accommodation....
Thankyou Dougie... :Like: :Like: :Like: :Like:
If there are any trikes going to be there would there be a seat for me to go on the ride Saturday...
My gut is still a bit big to be a comfy pillion even if my weight has dropped from 123 kg to 112 kg.
it seems that the gut is the last place we lose weight from... :rofl.

That cat is out of the bag. Oh well, had to happen sooner or later. There are only so many R.T.E photos that it can be in before someone starts asking questions :fp
The thing i shoudn't have purchased will probably get sold on monday to buy something Honda that i won't be able to ride far but it looks much prettier. Either way i won't be towing anything up to Mackay regardless ....

What are the final numbers for Mackay?????
and who's on the list?
Hi guys
We have a final list of attendees/numbers, we're going to post it on Friday.
The local Ulysses guy has put info about the Saturday RTE in his club newsletter, and we're getting requests to come along, so we were going to hold off till the end of the week in case we get a few more. One of our local QPS riders also asked if there'd be any members still here on 26th August as they're having a police ride up the valley and a sausage sizzle that day, so it's a pity everyone will be gone by then; we could all have told them how sorry we were they had to ride nasty Yamahas instead of the lovely STs they used to have..... :nahnah
Cheers,
John & Kate

Rally pack update....
Shirts and Patches have been delivered ;-*
The manufacture selected some months ago to produce the rally pins were the only company that could produce the pins in the quality and quantity (70) we required.... the only thing they couldn't guarantee was a delivery time. We could have settled for a lesser quality and been delivered in time but that wasn't going to happen.....quality comes first :wink1 and we simply couldn't get stuck with the extra 30 + pins at well over $7ea for the companies that are 100 minimum order.
So.....Pins will not make Mackay in time.
They believe we will have them a couple of weeks after NatRally.......so we will post them out to you all at our expense ;-*
:beer
-
The delivery time is what it is , as you said quality comes first , I am willing to pay for the postage if that helps. On another subject I have arrived at Penny’s place near Brissy , left Tamworth 0630 this morning hugged up to hilt by the time I got to Warwick all that was coming off.

Yes quite balmy here today. Bear that in mind, youse Mexicans. You'll need to rug up until the border, then you'll only need your OZSTOC jacket with all the 14 zips open. :runyay

Rugging up? What is this rugging up...? Currently, daytime temperatures range between 24 - 26°C and double figures at night. Plenty warm enough to defrost your zinc cream... We were out for a ride yesterday and Kate got her first sunburn of the season when she left her gloves at home. We'll post the seven day forecast a few days before kick-off.

I have made it into the Mackay region well before the rally. I'm heading up to Townsville on Thursday, for the weekend as its my cousins eldest girlchild's 30th and I am the surprize guest.
I had a fun ride as usual and arrived right on my ETA 7pm after the ride from Goondiwindi
The invasion of STowners into Mackay has begun. LQQking forward to more arrivals.. :Blow

For anyone not sure of the location of MISA (Mackay Indoor Sports Arena), in the image above, it's the big white building behind the trees at the back, right next door to the BIG4, and a massive 50m stumble home after the rally dinner. You don't even have to go out the gate, you can just walk straight through.
Well, you did all ask for a dinner venue really close by...

Update to NatRally Info Toolkit
(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/06/14/ca5ccd901172b69cd9059177330aab32.jpg)
Cheapest Fuel Update
…. the cheapest fuel in Mackay is available from Mobil, Slade Point, at [https://goo.gl/maps/cu9VujeGKdn]320 Slade Point Rd, Slade Point[/url]… yep, it’s fairly close to the Big4… This is a Mobil Handy Mart Servo… Opening Hours 5am – 9pm… 5 cents/litre cheaper than the previous mentioned Pacific Petroleum unmanned Servo…
Tonight’s Pacific to (Mobil) price comparison is – ULP91 149.9 (145.9), PULP95 159.9 (156.9), DIESEL 149.9 (144.9).
STeed Parts!!
We have just learned from a conversation today that there are an ST1300 and an ST1100 in Mackay for parts wrecking…. We will endeavour to investigate and get some photos in the next few days…
Cheers,
John & Kate

Hi Shillas
If you let us know what date(s) you'll be here in October we'll see if I'm off-shift. We could do you a personal repeat version of either of the RTEs. I know you're probably flying, but bring a helmet and we'll lend you our Piaggio MP3... Drop us a PM when you know when you're coming up.

Will be in Tassie next year. And in Mackay in October this year. Just bad timing a conference I'm booking in for is too late.
John & Kate
Thanks guys, will do

We did Bundy to Rockhampton (and then to Marlborough) on Wednesday. Add half an hour to whatever your GPS tells you the ETA is. There’s quite a bit of roadworks south of Rocky, most of them single lane with Stop/Go people at each end. See you in Mackay Thursday.
Ride safe & enjoy the rest of the ride!

You know you have entered a parallel universe the day you encounter no roadworks on the Bruce Hwy. Oh well, it's nice to dream :crazy

Safe travels to all attending.

Strewth! I hope the TMR fix that soon! I'm hoping to use that stretch of road on Friday. :eek
It's a big diversion to go out through Dingo.
It would appear they've got a bad batch of bitumen. That shouldn't be happening in late Winter.
Just checked the RACQ. This is their report:

No mention of the actual fault, unlike the photos on ABC. Although I wonder if they're just recycling the photos from the Atherton Tablelands incident.

Depending on time constraints and how Tipsy is feeling i may get it set up then take the long way home instead of the slab.

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS...
Sometimes, Fate bowls you a straight ball. We've approached all kinds of people over the past six months, trying to source fun things for the members to see and do during this year's rally, and some of that hunting has paid off at the eleventh hour. As someone with a bung back, a dodgy hip and a wonky knee, Kate's personally all too aware that despite Miss Scarlett's many charms, she's finding it harder and harder to clamber aboard the joy machine, and that one day in the not so distant future, it'll be time to call it a day.
Or find the Next Thing. We looked at 'Wings, thinking that the lounging throne on the back might do the trick, but the sheer expense of getting them serviced or fixed has put us off that. Quite early in the game, we looked at the CanAm Spyder, the RT version with the touring pack of capacious panniers, top box and throne. It drives differently from a bike, and it's pretty pricey, but it is very, very comfy... Anyway, we asked Phoenix Powersports, the CanAm dealers in Mackay, if there was any way to get a couple over for the members to look at during the course of the rally. They offered to forward an invitation to some of their owners to come and show their bikes on Saturday afternoon at the rally. For a long time, we heard nothing, but now, two or three have come forward to say they'll be along, so you'll be able to look over, ask questions and sit on.
But that, as they say in the ads, is not all. Phoenix Powersports are taking a delivery of a brand new one and will be putting it together on Friday.
If ready in time, they'll bring it over on Friday during the BBQ. And for one (plus pillion) of you, there'll be an opportunity to ride it
ON THE SATURDAY RTE.
You'd need to sign an indemnity form of course, but seriously, you wouldn't expect them to let you take it on a 170km round trip without, would you?
And just so you know, they're selling 2017 models at somewhere around $5,000 off....
So there you are. One final fun thing for NR2018.

One of the best...
Below is the email we wrote last night to thank Luke Burgess at Mackay Kawasaki for both the sponsorship and for giving up his Sunday afternoon to give the guys rides on his jetski at Kinchant Dam:
Dear Luke
I just wanted to express our great appreciation and huge thanks for taking the time on your day off to give our members such a memorable afternoon on Kinchant Dam yesterday. We all had an absolutely brilliant time and everyone appreciated your kindness and generosity in sponsoring our annual national rally despite the fact that we are not Kawasaki motorbike riders. We will take away amazing memories of this weekend, not least because of what you have done to help and entertain us. We were sorry that you weren’t able to join us at the dinner, and hope your racing was successful.
I’m attaching a photo of you on the jetski with Leonie, who, together with her husband Bill, had a jetski ride on her bucket list. On Sunday, you made it possible for both of them to tick that one off. Bill is one of our ‘legendary’ members, and I’m pretty sure he’ll be putting a good polish on your name on the OzSTOC forum :-)
Thank you again, so very much.
Kate Chiconi
(http://www.imghostr.net/images/2018/08/13/dbf78c8e6e6180882ece57fa675b1a28.jpg)
Here's his amazing response:
Absolutely no worries at all, Kate! It was a awesome day yesterday and I loved seeing the smiles on all their faces! That made my day also, knowing that it was a highlight for some of them on the trip!
Also thank you for sending in all your club members to our shop as we loved helping and looking after them for their tyres and servicing and appreciated the support you guys gave us.
If the opportunity ever arises again Mackay Kawasaki or Townsville Kawasaki will be more then happy to sponsor it again as we saw so much merit out of it.
What an awesome photo! I’m so glad that they enjoyed the day! ☺ Any more pics feel free to send them to us as we can put them up on our Facebook page ☺
Thanks again for coming to us.

What a great bloke... If any of you are likely to be passing through Mackay or Townsville and are in need of tyres or service, forget Honda – you know where to go! And in case any of you were wondering why he wasn't at the Rally Dinner on Saturday night, this is what he was up to on Saturday...

I wasn't able to make it but am really enjoying reading all this stuff. Ironically I do ride a Kawasaki.

Luke Burgess has asked if anyone has any great photos of the jet-ski fun at Kinchant Dam on Sunday, could you please let him have them for the Mackay Kawasaki FB page... You can either email them to me at the address shown on my profile or MMS them to 0407913065... cheers, John & Kate.

Spotted a :whit11-r 40 k's north of Gin Gin taking off into the distance rounding up caravans.
Turned out to be Phil S when we caught up with him for breakfast in Childers an hour later.
A GIGANTIC thank you to John & Kate for organising a fantastic event that will be hard to top, and to everyone in the background doing all the unsung hard slog thankless stuff.
It was great to catch up with members new and old. I hope to see you in Tasmania.

We're so glad you enjoyed it! People have come from such long distances that we wanted to ensure they had a really memorable visit – looks like the effort paid off :thumbsup
We've been doing the rounds of the venues and suppliers, thanking them for putting in the hard yards, and they've all said what a pleasure it was to deal with the OzSTOC crew, how friendly and appreciative everyone was, and how you'd all be welcome back any time. Go OzSTOC!
We won't be at Tassie ourselves, as we explained; it won't be possible to accrue the leave in time, but we hope to catch up with you at a SE QLD RTE some time soon.
Cheers,

Home at 3:23 pm.
Shonee and I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, thank you so much John and Kate and ably supported by Tony, Chris and Jean.
It was so great to catch up with everyone and to meet some me purple as well.
The venues and activities were superb.
I didn't expect to ride a Spyder and at best hoped to do a leg of one ride as a pillion. Still grinning.
The Jetski was a rocket!
Apart from the Torvil and Dean bed, my only other disappointment was not getting to say farewell to everyone.
The sooner we know the Tasmanian destination the better chance I/we might make it.
Again, many thanks to one and all.
Some of my photos from the weekend.

We didn't get home until 7:00 this evening, after planning on 3:00. Just 5 kays south of Tiaro the front tyre blew. We couldn't see a nail, so called RACQ who arrived 50 minutes later and took us into Maryborough. The fault was one of those wretched angle valve stems. But this wasn't an adapter- we know not to leave them on the stem. It was a flexible rubber one. They just plug in like a grommet, but fail due to flexing. This one had done 28,000 kays. The tyre bloke at the KTM agency said they only use them on ATVs, not on any bikes, Aggie or other because they've seen them fail.
So, guys and gals- if you get angled stems, get the metal ones that attach to the rim with a nut on a thread. They don't flex or fail.
The PR4 wasn't damaged. We were doing 100 kph on a straight and pulled it up in about 30 or 40 metres without any dramas. Getting it onto the towie's trolley was a bit of a handful but would have been easier if it was lined up straight- the location could have been better (and also far worse- at least we had a flat 1.5 metre sealed shoulder!)
-
Just a quick note... I have been following Lindsays spot, he arrived safe in Port Augusta at around 8pm local SA time, and has settled in for a well earned nights rest after around 1400 Km travel today from Narrabri.

That explains how we got in front of you going the short route through Biggenden and Woolooga. (It's now only 3 km of dirt) Glad you're both OK.
I had right angled metal valve stems for over 70,000 km and no problems.

I'm glad everything is OK Biggles, nothing worse then Bike problems on a trip
I have the metal angle one so never had a problem
But have had a few flat tyres. Always the rear tyre :fp

Our total travels for the Rally.
On a disappointing note, we passed through Woolooga and the wonderful cafe was permanently closed. Shop for lease.

Carrol deserves a medal for sitting on the back of a bike for that long! :crazy
Mrs Biggles is complaining of a stiff neck today. I think it's caused by the strong winds on Monday and to a lesser extent yesterday. They add to the load the helmet applies to the neck.
-
Home yesterday at 3pm after a detour into Hervey Bay to visit our daughter and help her celebrate her birthday. A very uneventful ride except for the head wind out of Mackay.
A big thanks to Kate and John for all their efforts to make this rally such a success.

We were very lucky on the ride home as there wasn't any strong winds and Carrol was able to use me as a wind block :thumb
She also said that the Russel Day Long (seat) made a massive difference and that she did sleep for a bit before being woken up by a bump in the road :eek
Carrol did handle it amazingly well :clap :clap :clap but I reckon it'll take a few days for her to recover :H
I would also like to thank John, Kate and everyone that was involved in making the rally a great success (It was AWESOME) :-++ :-++ :-++
I'll do up a ride report and post pictures over the next few days :thumbs

Leaving in the morning and having a week in Hervey Bay from Sunday.

... thank you Wilko... it's really great to hear that people had a good time... we've given ourselves a week off with a trip north in our caravan (Rollingstone today, Atherton after that)... we'll rest up and write-up our post NR2018 notes and reflect on what went well... and what didn't go so well... hopefully the info will be of use to future local organisers... we're hoping that NR2020 will be a bit closer than Tassie, so that we don't have to save a whole year's leave just to get there... cheers, John & Kate.

Hey Kev,
I'm glad I had you entertained following my Spot.
Arrived home safely at around 5:15PM WAST, after an uneventful ride. (no speeding fines, breakdowns or anything untoward).
Total distance was 12866km plus the RTEs around Mackay.
I enjoyed my first Rally and may find time and finance to do it again.
Thanks all, for making me welcome, even though I'm not riding an ST anymore.
The organisation of the event was outstanding! ++ ++

Covered over 4700km's @ 20.5km/L approx.
Longest day was 880km and 11 hours of riding from Mackay to my mates place in Tiaro.

Johnny is having a good run, about 20km north of Penrith with just under 100km to go, about 1 and a half hours from home.

Hi all, Arrived home this afternoon after a meandering journey down to Nowra. Did manage a 650km trip one day from Mackay to Childers but then got distracted by far too much beautiful weather and scenery which meant 350 km was a good day's run! Covered just over 4,800km all up and of course the good old st1100 was totally reliable and has now done 139,000 trouble free kilometres.
I'd like to add my thanks to John, Kate and everyone else who had a part in organising the event. It was my first one and I thoroughly enjoyed it! You would be hard pressed to find a more friendly and fun loving bunch of people anywhere.
Happy riding everyone!
-
... a great Rally. Thanks John and Kate for the well organised event.

... do you know who is behind Tding?... can you help us out?
Cheers,

Hi all, got in yesterday morn with an extra 5 odd thou on the bike. Great trip both socially and physically. All the stops throughout the trip both up and back were fantastic. The bike performed faultlessly.
Great turn out for the big event. Nothing short of brilliant, Many thanks to John and Kate who made it what it was. :clap To get Kawasaki to sponsor a Honda event has to be the achievement of the year and need an award for that.
To all that sponsored/helped in the organization of this big event, thank you. Oh, and thanks all for the award, Mexico is the perfect place for it to be :grin
OK did someone mention Tassie :eek
When do we register? :clap

I thought that from the moment I first read it months ago, but not just the sponsorship but them also arranging the spyders and jet skis was unbelievable. More and more I wish I could have made it. :cuss

Just a bit of an update on my travels back from the Rally , I had to stay in Brissy a few days longer , Penny had to go to hospital with her back she was there for 5 days , left on Saturday stopped at Walcha that night ,I am now in Bathurst after a very wet day heading to Albury tomorrow and the to Melbourne and the Boat , I have just clocked up 6000kms so far for the trip with about another 1000kms to go , the bike will have just over 100,000kms on it by the time I’m home.
-
I hope Penny is doing better and your boss was understanding about your extended absence.
It seems like an age since Mackay. It will feel like a lifetime until tassie next year.
-
I am due back to work on Friday 31st ,I was to back 5 days before work now I just have 1 full day before starting , my excursion out to Mildura , Warrnambool and the Great Ocean Road will have to wait for another trip. Thank you for your kind thoughts Penny has improved,I couldn’t leave until I knew she was right.
Hopefully today is better weather wise it is very foggy here in Bathurst this morning.
-
One thing I did not want to find this morning was a flat tyre ,but the boys at Beard Brothers motorcycles will have me on the road in 1.5 - 2 hrs
-
One is nothing. I had two on my Queensland trip.

How long before there is an announcement for the 2019 venue?
-
Lionel and I had coffee with Growly on Saturday and collected our rally packs. Thanks to johnnyYTED and Growly, couriers extrodinaire!
Wish I could have collected it in person but the cookie didn’t crumble that way!
Hope to be there in Tassie!

The Tassie rally team has only just been selected. And its within an hour of the boat. :beer
-
I got my annual leave approval today so am eagerly waiting an announcement so I can start booking stuff - not just the event but either side of it.

Well after a 4 week sleep over in Sydney the wing finally arrived home on Monday.
Almost 680 litres of fuel at over $1,200 and more then 12,600 kms.
Now it needs a very good clean.
Edit there is something wrong with the above litre or dollar figures but I can't find the fault in my spreadsheet!!!!! Fuel quantity updated
-
The economy of 25 km to the litre looks a bit optimistic, but you've got to stop buying that $2.40/litre fuel or you'll go broke!
Maybe there's a bunch of pies and Coke on the fuel dockets.

Found the problem in my spreadsheet some numbers were stored as text actual total fuel was 680 litres at an average of $1.87 litre and about 18.55 km per litre

Well, I'm here. Where is everybody? :crackup
Better late than never, but I've finally made it to Mackay. Monday to Wednesday night taken up with a conference for work, including numerous happy hours and a couple of dinners. Tough job this network and relationship building, but it has to be done, and I'm willing to take that for the team. :grin
Caught up with Kate today who took me around some of the sights of Mackay, including a few of the locations where all the Rally Attendees went. John was working, so didn't get to catch up with him, but said hi over the phone. The intent is to get together on Sunday night for an Indian meal.
Enjoying my time up here immensely, and while in a Kia rather than an ST, I intend to have a fantastic time doing the sites, relaxing with some fishing and pool time and catching up with the Scarlett Thunderbolt crew.
Aiming to bring Sandra up here in the next couple of years for a follow up trip. :thumbs

Good stuff. I got to Wooli two weeks after the event but Mackay is too tall an ask at the moment.

All of the WA attendees are in touch with each other so please feel free to send all the WA pins to just one of us if it saves OzSTOC the cost of postage.

I was thinking the same.
If they arrive before you head off for Harrow I'd be happy to collect them from you at Harrow and be a courier for the South Australian contingent.
