The biennial rally is in its third leg. There are four Australians competing on three bikes- a Sydney couple, a fellow from ACT and one from SA. When last checked, they were all still in the race. In this Rally, you only have to finish to be a winner!
The point I started this post for is the fact that a 2012 Honda ST1300 is currently in first place after leg 2 of the Rally, followed by a BMW R1200GSA, and a Yamaha Super Tenere. There are three other ST1300s, one of them a 2005!
Other similar types are 9 FJR1300s, 7 R1200RTs, 20 GL1800s and 2 Concours 14s.
Of the 108 starters, 103 were still in the race as of yesterday with 3 days of the 11 to be completed.

In the final standings today, all four ST1300s were among the 94 finishers. Thirteen bikes didn't finish, including two Australians, (one a couple and the other solo). The Ozzie who finished came a very creditable 33 for a Silver. The best ST1300 came 4th: Steve Gallant with 142266 points in 13331.2 Miles in 11 days.
For Pete, a R1250RT was the winner! Not quite the same bike, but close. There were 6 R1200RTs among the finishers.
