2016 Perth National Rally - Attendees Feedback
« on: March 22, 2016, 07:49:27 AM »
Hi all,
Now that the Perth National Rally is over, it's appropriate to seek your feedback on the event.   We want to ensure that our National Rallies continue to meet your expectations.  I would ask you to either post your feedback here, or send a PM to me if you don't wish your comments to be public.

I would like to thank Wombat, Yorkie and Pezzz for a successful and well organized event, and I know the amount of hard work that these members put into the event.  The WA organizers and OzSTOC Admin will have our own debrief in regard to organizational matters.

From my own observations and perspective as a Rally attendee, I thought the venues were well chosen and appropriate for our needs, the food was great, there were plenty of opportunities for socializing, and I was very pleased to see our sponsors participating on Saturday and presenting at the dinner.

The hot weather proved to be a challenge, which would have been a contributor to some rides not taking place, but this simply demonstrated the flexibility of the program.  We were caught out again with production of the Rally Pins (Cap Badges) being delayed by the factors out of our control and these will be sent out to you when they are available.    The disappointing issue of the print fading on the Rally T shirts is being looked into.

Cheers

The first issue I saw was the bad venue location for those camping. It was one of the poorest BiG 4 parks I have ever been to. It may have been in the quiet vineyards 20 years ago but now is located next to a main road with traffic going at 80kms and up to 200kms per hour 24 hrs per day  :eek
It was directly opposite a main intersection into a large new subdivision which further added to the noise  :cuss
The noise was intolerable. Many campers were forced to blow their budget and buy a cabin away from the camping area.  :fp
After 4 nights of only sleeping 10mins at a time it was a long day leaving to go home.

Venue location needs to be considered for future rallies to take into account different accommodation styles so we all get a good nights sleep. We don't want tired people going out on rally rides or heading home long distances after a rally. :wink1

The second issue was the structure of the rides. Most attendees travelled long distances to get there and simply want to socialise with those we havent seen for 12 months. The amount of rides, the amount of traffic they go thru & ride communication as to where to go if you got seperated from the bunch etc needs to be reviewed.
PitSTop and I had a great time and want to thank the organizers for their hard work and planning - Great rally catching up with Ole Mates and new friends  :thumbsup

I would suggest that group rides should be through lower traffic areas.  Trying to stay as a group in heavy traffic is extremely difficult.

Loved the idea of the games on Saturday, there were some reluctant starters, but everyone seemed to have fun once involved.  My only suggestion would have been, with the heat, to have wound it up earlier.

All in all, a great rally, well done Team WA :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

All in ALL I had a great time , riding over, catching up with fellow OzSTOCer's coffee at STimpy's WA digs were a highlight being able to chat with friends ...
The Sunday ride was fun even with the bicycle race traffic..  :cop
I muST also say,, the Trophy's awarded are great. STranger has his on the mantle.  MoST Charismatic ( rougheST ST )
We are very humbled by receiving this award.

WA in winter is not so great.

Organising a ride any where in Perth will involve traffic at some stage.

I think the Big4 park was the best accommodation choice available, considering the need to be reasonably close to the airport, and availabilty of maintenance should it be needed.

Sorry about the heat, it was a bit warm, but we in the west are used to the dry heat. Sunday became a bit uncomfortable.

I think the Rally was well done, and more lessons learnt. All the positive things, should go into a how to guide. Our sponsors seemed to have enjoyed themselves, with several very positive results coming from the event.

I didn't even have to use the big stick, but came close once ( Eh Johny) o:)

The WA guys and gals really threw themselves into organising this Rally, and its success was a credit to them.

The 40o heat was a definite downer, but rain probably would have been worse.  The choice of the park for recreation was inspired, as the shade made the heat almost irrelevant.  In any case, whatever the season, the weather can't be planned for.  The games were well thought out and good friendly fun.

I was initially shocked by the cost of accommodation, but WA (Perth esp) prices being what they are, and the units being of such a high standard, the charge was easier to understand.  The good discount negotiated for us softened the blow to the credit card (plus 2% CC charge  :fp).

The catering was above and beyond basic, and sets a very high bar for NSW at Woolli.

I'm afraid you WA guys spoiled us, and have set our expectations of future Rallies very high.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I enjoyed the Rally a lot, quietly but I did enjoy it. It was much hotter then I am used to . . What can you expect from a Canberran . . But it was hot from the moment we left home all the way to Perth and while we were in Perth, it started to cool down for the return journey.

The great guys from WA did a great job with all aspects of the Rally . . I liked the Big4 Park . Great cabin . . Expensive but I expected that, but I would stay there again. The breakfasts were good value and tasty. The Sat nite meal and presentations went well and Brian did a terrific job as busman . . Much appreciated.

I didn't make the Friday ride as my bike interface needed some recovery time, but would loved to have gone on the ride . . Biggles must have a hard ass . . As he made the ride with very little break out of the saddle . . Maybe weight on the interface has something to do with it. The traffic could be of concern but isn't it always.

I enjoyed the games, a little put off by the obvious cheating . . 😊 . . . Tried our best but there were some way better cheaters competitors on the day! Great fun, good venue, loved the museum.

Also great to catch up with so many of you again and meet other members of OzSTOC . . all great people and very friendly . . Douglas and Shiney kept us interested in changing their respective choices of transport . . I think Carol ended up with a good ride.

Thanks again to Wombat, Pezz, Yorkie, WAG and the all the other WA guys n gals who organised, cooked and made us welcome. Also a big thanks to STinkyPete for all his efforts and help for the rally and also to Popeye and Pete for raiding some Pizza place to feed the masses at their cabin on the Sunday night.

I arrived home after a week n a half, still butt sore, and vowing not to make an 8th crossing of the Nullabor . . But looking forward to Robe and Woolli and some other RTE's in between.

I am sure there have been some PM's sent to management team.

Will you table these in a non identifying way so that others can see and learn.

Also table the good comments too .

I was really REALLY disappointed in not being able to make it over.

Cheers,

I haven't received any PMs after starting this thread, and we're really keen to receive feedback from Rally participants to help us make our National Rallies even better.  Thank you to those who have commented so far, and both negative and positive feedback is valuable.   ++

Totally agree, it was the worst camp ground I have ever been in from a camping perspective and I was very annoyed at having to find a (very expensive) cabin to enable us to stay at the rally. Having said that, I thought the space around the cabins for the breakfast was great. The WA team certainly did a great job in organising the event.
The ride through the city/beaches was trying because of the traffic, but otherwise enjoyable, the ride through the Swan valley was great. It would be a good idea to make the route available as a google maps link for those who find themselves lost or forget to turn up at the assigned time.
The location and organisation of the Saturday games and lunch were excellent and I was very pleased to see a couple of vendors there, wish there were more. I was particularly dissapointed that the earmold guys couldnt attend. I also find it odd that Honda or the dealerships seem so oblivious to the opportunities that exist at these events.
In future could the actual sizes of shirts etc be used instead of the misleading S,M,XL etc.
