Title: Where to Buy Moly Paste
Post by: Aussieboy on March 18, 2014, 08:13:29 AM
Hi the Honda Service Manual states that a Molybdenum Paste with >40% Molybdenum should be applied to the spline of the shaft drive each time the rear wheel is removed. Interestingly my Honda dealer, who is not averse to charging me for a service does not have any of this paste (not sure how they have applied it when they should - admittedly the new workshop manager was embarrassed when he couldn't find any in the workshop as he is well aware that it needs to be applied.). I have made many enquiries and been unable to locate any. Other than purchasing from the US and copping a huge postage charge I have run out of ideas. Does anyone out there know where I can purchase some in Australia. The Honda Product is call Pro Honda Moly, this can apparently be ordered in grease gun sized tubes at $56. The splines only need 5 grams each time they are done, so only a small quantity is needed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't about the postage cost as the price for two tubes posted from the US was still under the cost for one from here.

Thanks Biggles,

just ordered the last tube from Hone, was fortuitous as I wanted to get some handlebar risers from them anyway - all fixed with a single order.

Membership has totally paid off in just one day  :thumbs. Hope I am able to help others in the future.

I was recently recommended the Nulon L80 extreme performance with PTFE.
From the various forums I have searched it appears to be more than adequate to do the job so time will now tell.
P.S. The Australian Nulon website wouldn't give me any technical info, how stupid.

The info sheet from Honda when I purchased final driven gear recommends
Molykote G-n paste by Dow Corning
Rocol Paste by Sumico Lubricant, Japan
Rocol ASP by Rocol, UK
Honda Moly 60, USA

I searched the country, East to West for a 60% or better Moly Paste and struck out.  Heaps of people sell it, but if you look carefully, most are only about 10%, with a whole lot of soapy stuff added.  So I bit the bullet and purchased a tube of the Honda stuff from the US.  I think it cost me about $35 by the time it hit my mail box, which is about 1/3 the reported cost of the ridgy didge Honda stuff is here (if you can find it).  So now I have a tube in my top box, and I gladly pointed out to my tyre fitter recently to use it, instead of the crappy old bearing grease they normally use.
cheers, Mick.

Paid $35, but lots of false starts to locate in a rural even regional area  ;-*

I think "fast" in this context mean "sticky", or "tacky".  The other "fast" as in "stuck fast".  :crackup
