Ever since we've had our 1300 the clip in this location just above the RH mirror cover has only ever been loose.

Looking through the parts list I noticed that the wrong clip was in there

It was replaced with the correct part and even with right part in place it still doesn't hold the two parts together. The same location on the LH side is fine so why the RH side is playing up is beyond me.

The next item is a mystery and was sitting underneath the tools; anyone know what it is or what it does on a 1300?

The strap is designed to hod the OEM tool kit in the space under the passenger seat.

I'd be surprised if you didn't have these sheets, which show what fastners go where.....

If the fastners don't hold, it is usually because the panels are not sitting tight enough together, or there is some damage to the petals on the fastner.

Or the fitting hole is enlarged slightly

Knowing where the fasteners go isn't really that difficult as I usually put screws back in where they come from or at least sit them back in the panel hole they came out of which something I do on the 1100.

The fastener is a new once I had found out that the one I took out was the wrong one.
Must be slight damage to the hole on the coloured panel as it doesn't hold even when pushing the pieces together.

Then it has two straps to hold the tools in - or maybe the strap that's holding the tools in is meant for something else - either way Kadina RTE could be a revealing experience.

There is only one strap that holds the tool kit in place, but I did find your strap shown on page 68 of the Owners Manual. I don't know what it does, but the illustration shows the "mystery strap" as well as the strap securing the tool kit. Let me know if you need a copy of the manual and I will e.mail it to you.

That strap holds the tank support rod in place IIRC. There is a clip recess in the top of the rear mudguard where the rod should be.

That sort of makes sense though the tank support rod is located back where I found it.
We went back over to Tammie's place and mowed the weeds and what's left of the grass and while there I took the seat off the bike and put the strap back where it should go. The seat rod can stay where it is for now or at least until the seat needs to come off.

From a Facebook query I get that the strap is for a U lock that was not provided standard but an optional extra
