Carnarvon
« on: January 06, 2014, 11:44:03 AM »
Just putting it out there to see if it gets any interest.

September long weekend, Carnarvon is just over the 900K mark.
I've heard that the weather is fantastic that time of year.

Change of date from June.

You will have to put up with a lot of extra traffic at that time. The road will be jam pak full with the Greypower Nomads and their slow traffic towing all of that stuff that they cart around whenever they go anywhere, and I guess that there will also be a lot of congestion on the NWCH from holiday traffic as well as the unusually heavy amount of big road trains, that make travelling on that road vary tedious.
Don't ask me how I know,

FarRide to Cue is on and I had that planned. I was going to go to Mount Meharry the highest point in WA and west of Newman on that run. Can be convinced though.

I hadn't checked the farriders to see what was happening. The Cue Farride is the weekend after the long weekend. 7 June.

No double demerits Noel.

Be cause for a rethink.

After a bit of talking to peep holes who are in the know, I'd like to amend the date.

The long weekend in September.

Should be great weather in Carnarvon. Not to cold or hot and we can still have a fire.

Pencilled in, now to make a few phone calls to find out the best place to stay.

Dunno what the caravan park is like these days, and there are a couple of new motels since we lived there in the '70's :fp :fp

Since I'll be in Port Hedland I'll keep an eye on this one and see if I can get a weekend off instead of days during the week. One can only hope.

We stayed here http://www.thegatewaymotel.com/index.html one night on the way back from Perth as we didn't want to ride the last 600kms to Karratha in the dark.

Yeah, but too far for most southerners to go! It's only the long weekend here in Perth as well. I was planning on hitting the road very early A.M. on the Saturday anyway to beat the traffic out of Perth. Jurien or Cervantes will be packed with terrorists tourists.

One of the options I had in mind, looks pretty reasonable. I was last living in Carnarvon in the mid 70's, a lot has changed since then!!!!
