Title: Fuel filter replacement
Post by: Uncle_Shrek on March 26, 2017, 01:34:51 PM
Finally got a replacement fuel filter to fit to my ST1300, but it looks different to the one that's currently in the bike. I bought the new one from a Honda dealer, so I'm hoping it's the correct one. I'll need to trim some rubber pipe to connect it up. Is it common for parts to look totally different? The old one is plastic and the new Honda item is metal

Old plastic one doesn't look OME.

Here's a couple of images of an OEM filter, one from the Workshop Manual, and one from a Honda parts diagram.
See  http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053f219f870021c54be6811/fuel-pump (http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053f219f870021c54be6811/fuel-pump)   for an on-line image of the filter.

Clearly the one your are replacing is not an OEM filter and the one from Honda looks correct.

Thanks for that. I managed to trim the hoses and get it fitted in. I also got the dreaded five way connector out while I was at it. I expected it to be gunked up, but it was clear. Would a bad fuel filter cause the FI light to come on? I've been slogging through the service manual, but struggling to find the correct info.
