Accommodation at Border Village for Friday and Saturday nights already booked. My friend from Victor Harbor will be meeting me there subject to his work commitments. It may be stage 1 of taking the sidecar to Tassie or just a BR.

I want to do this but with a trip to Tassie already booked might be pushing my lucks.  The other half will probably hit the roof when she finds out I have booked Balranald.  :whistle

Plans locked in, now it is definitely just a border run.

Annual leave okayed, but with the intricacies of how our work does things I have got the whole of the following week off now which means I have a conundrum.   Do I ride deep into WA for a bit, check out Streaky Bay or go to Roxby Downs?  Decisions, decisions.

I just registered Heather and myself for this years ride which will be a 1000km within 24hours one for us.

I did check for accommodation in Ceduna before doing so and we have two nights there which we usually do for this one.

Taking the 1300 this time and a much longer route via Adelaide as I got a couple of dates mixed up which means leaving home at about 6am and a hopeful ETA of 7pm in Ceduna and completion of the ride giving us a much leisured ride to the border on Saturday morning.

Part of a message from Border Village on the FarRider's page about the upcoming Border Ride.

I just wanted to let you know that we are now fully booked for the weekend of the Run. By my count, there are currently 38 registered riders, with 14 booked in to stay with us. Please be advised that rooms can be booked at the nearby Nullarbor Roadhouse or Eucla Hotel for those still needing accommodation.

Nullabor Roadhouse isn't exactly near by.  I wouldn't want to be riding it after dinner.

Post by: alans1100 on July 16, 2019, 05:19:22 PM
We usually get there about midday and around 4 pm we head back to Ceduna for the night.

Nullarbor is only about 2 hours away. Rode the bike on that section last (7pm - 9pm) year on the way back from Perth with the 1300.

Or you can bush camp at the Border as well.

2 hours isnt far away in bush terms. I visited my Uncles property west of Meekathara (Mount James), and while there decided to visit with the neighbours (Mount Augustus) a mere 2.5 hours down the track.

Google maps tell me I can make this trip in 14hrs but I think  for me it would be  risky to try it.So since I would like to wear out my st1100 only 83000 ks I'm going to err on the side of caution .next year is a must !!! .again ,good ride and God speed to all that go . Comfort . . . Hmmmm . . Borderline better. But way more economical than the ST1300. Using around 4.6 litres per 100 ks. 26 litre tank, easily giving around 550 ks per tank.

Johnny and I are now settled in at Border Village.

No longer going.

Did what I need to do in Adelaide okay but the rear tyre went down about 10 km South of the Horrocks Pass/Hw1 turn off. See Map.

I rang Heather who came over with the compressor and we got the bike as far as Wilmington and left it at the garage. Just hooked the trailer up to the car and we're going over to bring the bike back.

Just new I should have registered the 1100A for this trip.

Bugger.  It looks like I am going to be the sole SA representative there.  The only mishap I have had so far is leaving my toothbrush set at home so I'll be dropping into On The Run as I leave Ceduna shortly.

Arrived in Port Augusta and it's still dark.  It's the first time I've seen my bike display minus for the outside temperature.
:eek  That's not something that I am keen to see.  Ride safe my friend, and say Hi to the gang from me.

It got down to -6°C at Yalata this morning.   I was feeling it.  I'm defrosting at Nullabor now and having breakfast.

That's a great photo.   It's an iconic location and with three OzSTOC State flags.    ++

Welcome to the outback and I wouldn't have left Ceduna until about 6 am

In hindsight nor would have I.   The angle of the sun sucked for photos of the Bight cliffs, it was cold, and I couldn't get in my room when I arrived.   I'll know next time.

Mitch and I arrived back in Perth this afternoon after a great trip finishing with a reminder from mother nature about who is the boss.
We were both thinking about the great weather we had experienced with just a little rain between York and The Lakes and that the end was insight as we approached the intersection of Roe H'way and Kalamunda Rd about 20kms from home for me but then the sky turned black and it started to rain. As we stopped at the traffic lights the heavens opened up and by the time the lights turned green we were soaked. Mitch now knew that his jacket is waterproof and my glasses had rain on the inside and outside making the next 18kms on Roe highway interesting to say the least.
Great to catchup with some Ozstoc members and meet some new fellow bikers.
To top it off I also met two other owners of GL1500s with sidecars, one lives about 20 kms away.
All up for me 2,920 kms, 185.5 litres at an average of about 15.7 kms/l and a fuel cost of $326 (one should stop recording fuel costs)

 :blk13 BEEstY :blk13 Can-Am F3S Daytona  :dred11
After a good FarRide and Border Run across the paddock and back, I left Marge  :spank Butters at Kimba so I could honour Kimba my old dog. I took her ashes up high above Kimba (the town) to get some photos and at a few other locations before heading east towards Port Augusta then down to Port Germain where I took Port Germain Pass across towards Murray Town (?) and went thru Wirrabara and stopped at the Silo Art site for a pic and to remove some layers.
While I was stopped there an ol' fella, Bob crossed the road towards us to lQQk at BEEstY. He had his ol dog with him and when I went down to pat her he said" she doesn't bite and her name is Kimba.   Well I burst into tears and explained why to Bob telling him I have my 'Kimba's ashes in my topbox and spoke of our journey together both now and while she was alive.
Bob said I live over there, pointing at an old workshop and I said I was thinking of knocking on your door to ask if you'd have a nail or similar so I could fix the hinge on my topbox which had come out and was lost. Well Bob helped with a piece of stainless rod, and presto,, just like a bought one , all fixed. I rode on and stopped at Morgan at the motel Marge and I stayed on the way over.
Today I rode the Sturt Hwy across the Hay Plains, may as well keep up the monotony,  finally on dusk stopping at Wagga Wagga as I was buggered and getting cold. Tomorrow I'll visit a friend before heading up the Hume to home. BEEstY hasn't missed a beat.
