Just came back from a for day ride - Eden, Jindabyne Bright, back to warragul. Bright is one of the best places in Victoria to stay in. I wouldn't recommend where we stayed which was just behind the Hotel. It was probably cheap. There are plenty of motels As far as places to eat. Just go for a wonder around town. Plenty to choose from.
Regards,
marx.

At Lakes Entrance, a good fish and chip shop (Fish a Fare) right across the road from a table under a big tree.  Also public toilets nearby.  The dock across the road where fish is unloaded., with a big engineering vessel moored there.

In Bright, the Commercial Hotel has good meals, including true curries from the Sri Lankan chef. It was recommended by a local, and has been good the last few visits I made.  Also has basic motel style rooms available. The hotel is right at the roundabout where the war memorial is.

Just up the main street on the right is a bakery that opens early for breakfast (Diesel may be able to offer his assessment of a particular staff member!!)

In Cowes, the Green Palms Bar and Grill (cnr Chapel and Steele streets) 03 59526200  Very friendly  We stayed in the holiday park in a motel unit.

In Bright there is a little Gourmet Fish and Chip shop just down a side street off the roundabout with the war memorial.  Its not open every night though;  otherwise we would have gone back again. :thumbs  Don't remember the name, but the food was brilliant. They do chunky homemade chips with rock salt. Devine! Its got little Christmas style lights out the front....Cheers Chris.

ps. Just remembered the name Rok Salt in Camp St, Bright.

Bruthen .... there's the Bruthen Inn Hotel, basic accomodation, clean sheets, plenty of hot water and cheap - last time (earlier this year) was $30.00 per head, included a cereal, toast, tea & coffee help yourself breakfast.  If you ask nicely, they've even let you park your bike and trailer under cover in the beer garden

Evening meal was good, beers were cold, local red acceptable - but best of all it's within an easy walk to and from the Bullant Brewery.

Your Experience:  Expensive - meals up to $140.00 per head, rooms $190.00 to $350.00 per double, but meal was top class (apparently the only restaurant regional Victoria with "three chefs hats"), rooms were spacious.  Only reason to go is if your children give a Christmas gift voucher (3 x $120.00 and we were still out of pocket), and if it's your 35th wedding anniversary.......

Me thinks someone needs to write a travel guide

This is what happens when I'm laid-up with an effing sore back - 4th day now, hopefully back to some form of normality soon.

In the meantime, I've still got to add Wye River, Yarram, Cowes, Jamieson, Swan Hill, Metung, Maffra, and may be a few others.  And then there's a few more from NSW, QLD and SA - only in the least four or five years or so, any earlier info may be useless by now.
