Bloody battery..... grumble,grumble/

Last September I had a dead battery at Kingaroy so I put a new one in. Today one year and two weeks later it dies, absolutely stone dead    . I rode the bike to work this morning it started without any drama and there was no indication of a problem. Jump on this arvo to head home, hit the starter and the dash lights go,  no power at all. I thought it may have been a fuse or the fusble link but after pulling the side cover and checking them they we're fine. So I grabbed the work jumpstart pack and connected it in place of the battery and voila lights and power. I am know standing at work waiting for the missus to show up to pick me up and get me home where..... I have a new battery on float charge. First order of business tomorrow when I get to work,  put new battery in Bike. They owe me about 38hrs so I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Its a pain when that happens, but batteries can just die regardless of brand and price.  I have push started the ST11 as long as the dash lights come on (enough power for the electronic ignition) - it does not work when nothing shows up.

While I would expect a battery to last more than 12 mts, I had one die after one year.    The Honda dealer that I purchase it from did replace it for me under warranty.

Batteries die, tyres wear, globes blow.............    It's part of the joys of owning a motorcycle.

I usually get about 6 years from a battery 

WET very time, NEVER on trickle charge, I use a 4 amp charger with 1 hr /day (when not in use for a week) via a $10 time switch 

(I will write a program for microprocessor one day, to do it )

PLUS my bike still has a REAL starter as back up  (hurts when it kicks back but)

Batteries can die for varied reasons usually its plates sulfated or crap falls off plaes and shorts out the cell in wet batteries.
Gel and AGM have their own dramas WAY TOO much to go into here

Are Lithium worth the extra money?

Sorry Biggles I cant comment on them yet.

Other than known discharge curve of Lithium batteries is full, full, full,full, full, full -dead. Where other tech is a gradual decrease

Have used a C-Tek for past few years on boulevard. 6 years on and still fires first go every time. Well worth the $100 it cost me. Ran the ST dead the other day "farkling" , push started to get home and then dropped on C-Tek overnight and all good again. Highly recommend.

  must be something in the air at Kingaroy. my mum lived there and I've had to buy 2 batteries over the years as they have just died,,,  one good thing was I got a good price coz mum knew the ppl who have the bike shop nr the Commercial pub.

Hi Biggles, I have just put a lithium on my ktm . It has more cca and only weighed 500 grams, the oem batt weighed 1, 1/2 kg and has 70 more cca. It comes with a 2 year warranty . It suppose to be able to sit for a year without charging then start up ok. The only down side is as Dale said they will just fail. At the moment all

I suppose at the two year mark you could just replace it (or buy another and put it in your pannier for an on-road replacement if required).

I put a new battery in my ST 2 was ago. It had a date written on it. 2004. When it died it died. Not bad though 9 yrs.
