Borrow a ST1100 shock in Perth?
« on: April 11, 2013, 11:35:01 AM »
Have ordered and paid for a new one from USA, but they are taking their time and I wanna ride! Now!
Has anyone in Perth got a spare shock that I could use for a couple of weeks?
It can be well worn and barely working, as mine is sticking down and making it unrideable.
Happy to pay up a hire fee of course :)
PM if you can help.
Cheers,
Deano

Why is it 'sticking down'? Is the shaft bent? Have you tried backing off the rebound dampening?

No ideas, compression works ok, rebound takes quite a while 5-10 seconds. Preload is correct on the spring. It's not a stock shock, but no-one here knows what brand it is. No adjusters on it, either compression or rebound. It has a Schrader valve but assume that's for nitrogen charging. Maybe the rebound valving is stuck or blocked?

Dean, would very interested to have a photo of the shock unit when you get it off the bike, may be able to identify for you.

Have you checked for pressure at the schrader value?
If none try pumping it up some and that may get it working enough to use.
One of the rear shocks on my GL1500 is air adjustable.

I had done that first. Can"t get bugger all in there and it didn't make any difference, that was why I think it's for nitrogen  charge.

Cancel that request to borrow a shock, the new one is actually halfway here from the states. Lack of communications led me to believe it was still 2-3weeks away which is why I wanted to borrow one.

Ripped the old one out when I had a spare hour this arvo and it is a Bitubo shock. It had adjustment for soft to hard thru the shaft, not sure if that is rebound and/or compression. Has only half it's oil and no nitrogen (8-10bar supposed to be in there). Has been leaking oil for a while. No idea why that wouldn't allow any rebound. Waiting for the std shock to arrive to put back in.
Cheers,
Deano
