Hello from Tony in England (Pendle Parking Brake man)
« on: January 17, 2014, 10:30:34 PM »
Hi folks
Being a retired engineer I now fill my time in the garage making and mending stuff for all the local farmers.
Been making my Parking Brakes now for about 15 years.
Now at 67 I have been back riding Pans for about 20 years. Me and "she who must be obeyed" (Pamela) go touring in Europe every year for about 6 weeks, mostly camping. Germany, Austria and Italian Dolomites are our favourite places.
There are some pictures of us touring on my web site at
http://www.tworrall.talktalk.net/
along with all the details of the Parking Brakes I make.

Bikes I rode in my younger days

James 200cc 2 stroke
Tiger Cub 200cc
Triumph Speed Twin 500
Matchless 350cc

Rested for about 30 years then started back when I rebuilt a "vintage 400 - 4"

Honda Super Sport 400 * 4
Kawasaki GTR 1000
BMW K1100
Honda ST1100 (30,000 to 80,000 miles)
Honda ST1100 ( 0 to 90,000 miles)
Honda ST1300 (5000 to 7000 miles and still going)

I changed to the 1300 only last October so cannot wait for weather to improve. Am not a happy cold / wet weather biker.
As soon as I got on the 1300 I missed my Parking Brake immediately. It took me a few prototypes before I finally decided on a design. I then found that earlier 1300s had a different lever (bugger) so I now have to make 3 types of brake (2 for 1300s and 1 for 1100s)

In the early days of making 1100s I found that there were 2 slightly different master cylinder castings which caused a bit of a problem but with the help of some very patient customers I managed to modify the design so that it would fit both types of casting.

I really enjoy making the brakes in my garage and getting great feedback from customers. They are all hand made using my small lathe, angle grinder, polishing machine, stand drill etc.

If anyone needs to contact me direct for more info then please visit my web site for all contact info.

I would like to thank Graham Strang for the welcome email he sent to this old Pom.

Hope this is the sort of info you were expecting Dave and that I have written it in the correct area.

Kind regards
Tony
PS  Can you send us some of your warm weather this way, fed up with winter now, rain rain cold and more b------y rain.

Thanks for visiting my web site and the welcome you have all given me.
Did not know whether my web site would appear upside down for you, apparently not.
I was beginning to think that bails fell off England's wickets too easily because of the upside down syndrome or you have some Aboriginal magic down there.
My niece Melony (she is a gem) did a tour of Oz some years ago in a VW campervan and confirmed to me that the face in the Moon really is upside down there. Daft things like this always fascinate me.
Cheers to you all
Tony

Thank you for the welcome and purchasing my Pendle Brake. Hope you enjoy using it.
I seem to have lost one that was on its way to Brian from York in Western Australia - anyone seen it? Sent it on 28 Dec and still not arrived. Think I am going to have to send another - ah well that's life.
Cheers
Tony

.........did a tour of Oz some years ago in a VW campervan and confirmed to me that the face in the Moon really is upside down there.

I had a similar experience when in Canada years ago.    I really felt a long way from home as the moon was upside down and I did not recognize any of the star constellations in the night sky.

A very simple but effective unit, I found it easy to fit and have used it a few times, mainly hill starts and works well.
Thanks Tony.

Welcome Tony,
I will be seeking a park brake as soon as I get a couple of urgent jobs cleared and figure out which model 1300 I have.
You will see from below my first bike was a 98cc James, not sure how you would have handled the massive power of a 200 cc James.

Hello Glen
Oh yes I recall the immense awesome power of my James 200cc. Believe it or not I achieved 63mph DOWN HILL laid flat on the tank due to the headwind - incredible. Raising the electric screen on the ST1300 is a bit of an improvement - I suppose.
I see you have a 2008 ST1300 - that is about the time that the brake levers changed.
The easiest way to check is to look at the connection between the lever and the master cylinder. The earlier models have a half spherical cup location on the lever, you can see this on the front page of my web site.
http://www.tworrall.talktalk.net/
If you are still unsure then just send me a photo of your lever.
Kind regards
Tony

Hi all...this is a very old topic....but I received a very welcome email from Tony last night and I have been able to purchase one of his terrific brakes from the UK site this morning (for my st1100).
Not sure if he has any more in the pipeline...but I think the 1300 one is currently also available.

I'm glad you've revived this thread for those who have come recently.  I love my Pendle brake lock on my ST1300.  I moved it across from Ruby to Ruby2sday.  I reckon one could be made for the V-Strom which has an almost identical handbrake.  I raised the matter with him, and all he needs is a bike to measure, so if there are any Pommies reading this who can get a V-Strom to him, I'll be his first customer for that model.     ++
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
