The PR3's on the ST that we bought 2nd hand stick quite well in the wet and dry, so the PR4's should also allow you to wear them to the edges, if you desire.

If you are not into "track day" type riding, then the Bridgestone Exedra radials could well suit you better and last longer than the PR4's.

As of today I have a Dunlop Roadsmart 2 on the front and a Bridgestone T30 Evo on the rear which will be replaced with a Roadsmart 3 in a fortnight's time

I'm running PR4 GT 170/60/17. Love them. The only issue I have is I'm not getting the wear that the majority seem to get. I'm looking at just over 5,000 and the RHS is starting run out of rubber.
This is the second set that have worn on the RHS faster that the left. They also have what appears to be an unhealthy amount of feathering.
I have been given all sorts of reasons why it wears more on the RHS, from the camber in the road, I'm harder into the R corners than the L (which I put some credence on this as I do like to power out of the RHers.
I pulled into a servo the other day and a guy said that my suspension was not set up right with that amount of feathering.
I run the rear at 40 and the front at 38 and just me and no gear.
Has anyone got any comments on why it's wearing so fast and the feathering.

That's ridiculous.  Mine have always worn evenly, despite all the scuttlebutt about RH bends etc.  At around $500 for a pair, I'd be going broke if mine only gave me those kms.  I expect 25,000.  I'm not careful about acceleration, regularly carry a heavy pillion and run 42/42.
Now that's on an ST1300.  I have run PR2s, 3s and 4s, all with similar results.
When I had an ST1100, I got 11780 from Bridgestone 021s.  I sold it with a pair of Metzeller Z6 hoops that had 5683 km on them and passed the Roadworthy easily, implying they had another 5000 or so left in them.

For your information Biggles, I purchased the tyres this time last year. Did one fantastic ride from Tweed to The Entrance and back, around 2000 kms. I posted it here as well if you're interested.
I work overseas and I have been in Australia for 22 days this year of which I rode 10 times at an average of 8 at an average of 300kms per ride. I don't do any other riding so I'd say that's about 4800 wouldn't you say. So please keep your rude comments to yourself. I'm being polite here because you have no idea what I'd really like to say.

No shit shirlock, my very point was that I don't want to spend yet another $500 on another tyre only to have the same problem, hence my question.

Anyone got any useful comments on the feathering, the tyre pressure or the suspension setting?
If not I'll just fade away and not bother coming back which is a real shame because I've always found this site a great source of information.

Sandman, for your own peace of mind I would put the bike on the centre stand and look at the alignment of both wheels, both inline and verticle, and see if any thing looks not right. I would be checking your swingarm bearings too to see if there is any movement in them.
Something is not right to only get that mileage from PR4.

I've just upgraded from 01 ST1100 to an 05 ST1300 which had a good rear tyre on it when I picked it up. I'll run the same tyres on the new bike as I ran on the 1100, Exedra on the front and a BT030 on the rear. I'm due for a new tyre on the rear which has 12K on it. I wear the rear faster than the front generally about 1.5 rear tyres to 1 on the front running 42/42 PSI. Last run up the Oxley I got lots of feathering on the sides mainly due to giving it lots of berries on the corners though this does wear off during normal riding.
I can get a full set of tyres from Mick at Motor Trade Machinists including freight for around $380 and I fit them myself, good pear of tyre levers and a bead breaker is all you will need. Bit of effort but saves me having to take the bike to a fitter and waiting for them to do the job.

ST1300 fitted with PR4's and am getting around 20,000 per set.     Lowest I have had is 18,000km with some big pillion trips, and the best has been 22,000km.    I run 42 front and 44 rear.

I replaced my Pilot Road 4 with 30,000km on them
Even though they were still legal and I could have got another 5000k out of them
But the bike was getting it's 48,000km service
And I had a set of PR3's in my garage that I picked up 12 months ago in that special deal going
So sevice new tyres new brake pads
Bike like brand new now
I run 42 & 42 psi

I think your tyre pressures are to low. Try running at Honda's suggested 42/42 though the slightly heavier 1100 has 36/42 where I usually run at 38/44 as I ride two up most of the time.

I've apologised to Sandman in a PM for what I construe as a misunderstanding.  My contributions to the Forum are intended to be helpful, and I was reporting my experience while suggesting such a low distance from a set of tyres is ridiculous.  In the absence of a scientific analysis of tyre wear, I recognise it wasn't much help.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Honda shop at Nerang were the ones who fitted both and advised me on the pressure.

I have also gone back to Biggles and apologised. I may have been a bit too sensative. Had a long frustrating day and I fear I took it out in a late night blast. I'll take a deep breathe next time and as I said to Biggles, not be so quick to judge.
So we can all have a group hug.    

Biggles also suggested a wheel alignment so i'll check that out too.

Does anyone know a decent tyre place around the tweed or Gold Coast. I'm even happy to go to Brisbane if need be. Any chance to get on the bike.

5000 does seem to be a low distance for tyres. My only experience is with bridgestone T30gt which look like getting about 15000 or so which is also low compared to others, and I dont ride hard. I will try pr4 next time as I think they may have an edge for cornering. I have been running 42/42psi onq my ST1300. Trying a little higher in the back now. 44 ish. As I do not recall much mention of feathering I also would suggest checking things like bearings, alignment as something must be causing it.

Thinking back I used to run 40/45 psi in my 1100.
I used the Dunlop Roadsmart 2 (three sets before she burnt) with all giving around the 16,000km rear and 25,000 front. The bike had the Roadsmarts on it when I bought it and running at the Honda recommended pressures caused a bit of feathering of both front and rear. They didn't last as long as the Michies, but were a lot cheaper (and I got more practice with the tyre changer).
As suggested earlier, check the alignment, bearings, etc and if all good try more air pressure.

Well, I'm glad this thread is back on track, I was a little worried this morning.

I have some empathy for you Sandman, my PR4 GT rear lasted 16,000km, but scalloping developed much earlier.  Much better than yours, but disappointing considering some of the others' efforts.  There's a little story about my woes here: http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12309.25

The replacement Roadsmart 2 on the rear has around 1,000km on it;  the PR4 GT front has around 17,000km and good for a while yet.

5000 is definitey not right, I have the PR4s on wy 1100, and have had them for about a year, well over 5000Ks.

I run mine at about 42PI, (when I remember to check). I think a look at the mounting of the wheel may be in order, as the tyre in normal use should sit on the middle wher the compound is harder.

 Look at the swing arm bearings, ( put bike on centre stand with wheel off the ground) and give it a wiggle, if the left bearing has failed, the left side might lift tranfering weight onto the right side...

If all else fails, start taking only left hand turns.....

I should have mentioned that the wear is on the RHS only of the tyre. Important piece of information omitted.

So after a conversation with the guys at Gold Coast Tyres at Mermaid Beach I was put in contact with Dave Kellet (07 3290 2811) who is in Slacks Creek and he spent half an hour on the phone with me going over what some of the issues might be. Dave is a frame expert and his take is that there could be a slight mis-alignment between the wheels which is causing a drag on the RHS of the tyre.
I had it on the highway on Sunday with the Cruise Control on and it pulls to the left so I'd say it an alignment issue.

Anyway, I have put on a new PR4 GT (they are a cracker) and I'm going to take it up to Dave after Christmas and he'll do some diagnostics.

Michelin Pilot 3  , I give them a good try out through  the Murchison Hwy in damp and dry conditions . Very stable and secure ride in changing conditions .

Pr4 up front now done 6,300km and the rear Roadsmart 3 now has at least 10,500km; closer to 12,500 with the estimated 2000km or more between speedo cable breaking and it's repair. An estimated 1000 to 1500 km remaining on the rear.
