Title: Cruise Control
Post by: Calsonic on May 13, 2019, 08:46:06 PM
Hi All,

Have not seen much info on this topic so let me ask.

What is the general thoughts on cruise control? I have seen some expensive kits out there as well as the simple throttle lock.
Is a throttle lock sufficient for the long haul or is it worth adding a full blown cruise control?

Pros and cons for these options?

Cheers

Geoff

MC cruise is the ultimate however it comes down to how much you are prepared to spend and how often you will use it, I know of instances where riders with throttle locks have been booked, downhill with the throttle not backed off, your decision which way to go.

MC Cruise is the best and way beyond my budget so I use a throttle lock.

You can either use it to hold the speed while you give your right hand rest for a few minutes or within limitations as normal cruise control.

The speed you travel at will depend on the lay of the land which means loss of speed going uphill and a gain when going down hill. You can adjust the throttle to maintain a speed or like me just let the speed vary though one needs to be aware of the traffic that maybe catching you up or that you might exceed the speed limit.

Most of the time I am within +/- 5 k/h of the speed I set it at which is usually 100 k/h.

I have the GO Cruise 2 and it's easy enough to swap between bikes. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152995092007 (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152995092007)

Yes the MC Cruise looks great but like you I think it will be beyond my budget. I’d rather put the extra cash into getting a better bike that maybe already has some good farkles already onboard. I think the throttle lock will be my first choice if only to give the hand a rest from time to time. There does not seem to be much competition for the MC Cruise. I’ll see how much long distance I do before indulging myself.

Cheers

Geoff

Love my MC cruise on my ST1300 but I got it at the right price
I have used throttle locks and found them very good
It's what you can afford

I rode someething in the order of 180,000 km on my ST1300 without cruise control, but with a throttle lock to gve my hand a break from time to time.  It is not necessary for touring, but is certainly helpful.   Now I am loving the integrated cruise control on my new ride.
