Title: Memorial Service for Saaz
Post by: Lionel on October 20, 2015, 07:49:02 PM
Saaz (John Nagle) was cremated in Perth and his ashes are now in Canberra.

A memorial service for Saaz is to take place in Canberra on Saturday, 7 November. We know that the Snowy ride is also scheduled for 7 November. The two events do not necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. The service is planned to start at 12:00pm until 1pm. This will provide sufficient time for Saaz’s friends at the Snowy Ride in Thredbo to ride to Canberra, participate in the service and return to Thredbo in the afternoon.

Nevertheless, the “tyranny of distance” will prevent many of Saaz’s friends attending the service. I invite these people to post below, any farewell messages to Saaz. These will be displayed at the service and passed to the family. Similarly, please post below any photographs of Saaz that you would like others to see. There is no need to re-send the ones that have already been posted.

It is to be a simple service, one that allows Saaz’s family and friends to say farewell to him and to celebrate his life. There will be an opportunity for a representative from FarRiders and OzSTOC to participate in the “Eulogy”.

The actual venue is yet to be confirmed and will be advised on the various Forums (Fora for Biggles) once the booking is made. We are hoping to secure a venue that will allow people to mingle and have lunch together after the service. We need the venue to have sufficient parking for cars and bikes, and a flexible dress standard (FarRider/OzSTOC shirts). We probably shouldn’t wear Hawaiian/loud shirts although Saaz would see the funny side if we did.

Venue Details:

Here are the details for Saaz’s Memorial Service.
Date: 7 November
Time: 12 pm to 1 pm
Location: Harmonie German Club of Canberra
Address: 49 Jerrabomberra Ave, Narrabundah ACT 2604
Parking: There is plenty of parking on the service road adjacent to the club

Wake: Details of the wake will be provided at the Service.

As much as I would like to show my last respects to John I'm unfortunately unable to attend due to ongoing medical treatment. However I will be pausing for a moment while John's memorial service is taking place.

As a suggestion would the club like to take up a collection from OzSTOC members through the clubs accounts and make a donation to the CF Federation of Australia http://www.cysticfibrosis.org.au/ (http://www.cysticfibrosis.org.au/) or other suitable organisation management determines in John's name.

Also, postumus Life Membership to be bestowed on Saaz.

Just a suggestion to the OzSTOC Management.

Good ideas Sabie. ++

Chris and I will be attending. Thank you Lionel

Could we request that as many members as possible attending please wear the OzSTOC shirt, they are available for immediate delivery in the OzSTOC shop if you wish.

We are also very happy to loan our extra OzSTOC shirts for the service to those without them.

Don't forget the Bed/shed and get Fed section of the forum that may help you with accommodation and travel to the service.

Thanks for the thoughts  :-++

But we will simply allow members to follow their own wishes in regards to donations to the CF Federation or any other charity of their choosing as we have had other members pass away from other conditions.

Cheers

Kinda knew that one wouldn't get through, other members suggestions on how to pay a lasting tribute to Saaz will have a better chance.

While it's sad that we have lost other members, Saaz was instrumental in the early development of this club and made an outstanding contribution to OzSTOC.

Teela and I are at the Canberra airport waiting for our flight back to Brisbane

It has been the most beautiful day in Saaz's memory, photos flowing, words well spoken, it was a good size gathering of OzSTOC, FarRiders friends and family, i am proud to say i had many tears in Saazs memory today.

The Wake was held at Saazs house and was well attended and it was wonderful to share the memories with riders and family alike, i did not take any photos as it didnt seem to be the day for it.

I wish Saaz had been there today, he would have loved it, i kept looking for him and listening for his laugh.

The following is the Eulogy written and read by Streak today at Saaz's service......

Good Morning Ladies and Gentleman, family and friends.

I have been asked to speak on behalf of OzSTOC  To those of you who don’t know is the Australian Honda ST owners Club, which John, Saaz as we called him was a long term member, and an integral part of evolution and brickwork that held it together.

When I was asked to speak my plan was to gather quotes and comments from his riding friends, showing how popular and loved by all of us.

It dawned on me when I started writing this, the photos I looked at, the major and minor events within our riding group over the years, John was always there. Usually not in the front of the photo but there on one side, always there.

John had many challenges in his life, but you would never have known it, he was always ready to listen your problems or issues over speaking about his own.

He was always there when someone had a glitch with a bike, it was very common to turn up at an event on the other side of the country and see John with his head in a bike helping someone out.
(To quote a friend “a normal problem fixed with one hand, a serious bike problem drink handed off and two hands used)

He would always put himself out for anyone who needs something without hesitating

He took in a wayward traveller who was a week early turning up for a motorcycle event…

He was there when my great friend Dave aka Diesel and I needed help building our riding group, on the end of the phone, giving subtle gentle advice, or firmer advice when we’re getting carried away with an idea, and when we asked him to be part of the team he didn’t even blink he just said yes.

He was there when I got married, lending a calming word to a young bride and a rather nervous groom.

If you talk to anyone in motorcycling who knew John, they were and still are quick to say “what a great bloke, and did you know what he helped me with”

John was never much for the spotlight, but the crowd always seemed to be around him, he was generous in so many ways, I think many will never know the full extent of his generosity

With all the help and time I have spoken of and about, John’s payment terms consisted of “thank you” and he was happy (although he was very quick to be at the table when my wife cooked a pork roast)

So many of us in this room have been sitting at a table far too late, or far too early in the morning, and John was always there. to me these where some of my favourite times with him, I am sure Terry, Barry, Lionel, Diesel, and many others would agree, the glass is a little emptier without Johns sense of humour around to make us laugh

The world is a poorer place without John SAAZ Nagle, I considered him a true gentlemen, and I am proud like all of us in this room to have known him.

I am hoping you have a good bottle of red, and a good road that never ends, if you have time, say hello to Whizz, Brad, & Hendo for us.

Rest easy old friend.

We are just home safe'n'sound  :wink1  1787k's for the weekend and as close as we got to being on the bike was have Streak in our mirror and nearly our boot at one stage  :p

In excess of 50 of Saaz's motorcycle buddies bid him an emotional farewell.... Riders and Pillions from FarRiders, IBA and OzSTOC stood along side each other and supported each other and indeed Saaz's family on this somber but memorable occasion.

We owe a debt of thanks to John's family for allowing us to share this day with them, Saaz's sisters where gob smacked at the show of support by his motorcycling comrades.

To Lionel, thank you on behalf of all of us, :-++ we all owe you a glass from the top shelf for taking point on this tragic event as it unfolded, Saaz couldn't of asked for a better mate or a more fitting farewell.

You will ride with us always Saaz  o:)
