Title: Deleting old threads
Post by: West Aussie Glen on March 18, 2022, 12:01:00 PM
What are the thoughts on deleting old threads like this one:- http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14618.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14618.0) ?

I still go back to threads like that to see who did and didn't attend certain RTEs.  I even looked at the Curdievale one today, and that was 2020.

It can be done, but its a lot of work to go back through the threads to see how long since last accessed. There are thousands of them, and I get yelled at if I "Play" with the computer too much.

But I think the originator can delete them

I think they can delete the post,  but the rest of the thread remains.

A lot have very little relevant info. I thought the originator could delete a thread/topic they started, I just tried but was told as you can't delete the first message but you can go to "select remove topic link" but I can't find that option.

I'd be more interested in having some of the threads in the different categories "unpinned".  :thumbs

Many of these haven't had posts added to them in years so it seems silly to keep them pinned...
For example there's this one: http://ozstoc.com/index.php?board=38.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?board=38.0)

Is there really a need to have so many topics pinned at all?
I know it can make things a little easier if the topic or category is accessed regularly but with the search button it's not that hard to find things that aren't pinned.

That's my 2 cents worth... 8)

Unpinning stuff is a god idea. I will do some of that now.

The next problem is the "most recent posts" which I often find interesting and useful.
I just looked at the 10 pages of posts that it shows and with due respect to Kev Murphy of the 100 posts listed about 90 plus were jokes.
Maybe this could be changed to the topics most recently posted to.

There's an option, check box or something in my profile or settings that I, or someone else, has selected that does not show me Kev's jokes when I click on the "View the most recent posts on the forum" link.  One of the admin was looking into it, but we couldn't see what is was.  I can only see Kev's jokes if I'm not logged-in.

Delete that thread and he would suddenly have a three digit post count.   :crackup

A good thought. There is plenty of info here that is no longer pertinent. Only problem is the time needed by a moderator to take the arduous journey of vetting posts. or getting the membership as a whole to review all their historical inputs to the forum.

And the politics of having someone annoyed that their posted was deleted by this Marxist Regime!   :angry-old-man-smiley-emoticon

If it were deleted by a Marxist Brothers Regime there is a good chance it would be funnier than a significant percentage of posted jokes.
