HELD SAMBIA 2in1 GORE-TEX Gloves
« on: July 23, 2021, 04:05:22 PM »
A while back I read a review on the "Held Sambia 2in1 Gloves" which raved about them so I got to thinking about buying a pair.

The price initially scared me off but after scouring the internet I found the same gloves at a much cheaper price, a price I was sort of prepared to hand over.

With my birthday fast approaching I thought they'd make a nice birthday present for myself...

I was quite apprehensive about buying gloves without ever having tried them on first (especially at this price) but I just had to cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best.
Anyhow, the gloves turned up today (only one day late for my birthday) and surprise surprise, they actually fit...woohoo!!!  :runyay

Once I get to try them out properly (assuming this lockdown lifts sometime) I'll give you all a bit of feedback...

First impressions though are that they are a very well put together glove...  :thumbs

Here's a link to the initial review I read: https://www.bikeme.tv/index.php/held-sambia-gloves-reviewed-why-arent-you-wearing-these/

A belated Happy Birthday  :Cake2 Rusty, I hope you had a great day - that'd be 60 then?

Those gloves look very good although the price mentioned by Boris made me gag a little. BUT, as I am constantly reminded with the majority of my purchases - you only get what you pay for.

Rusty, what sort of price did you have to pay and how did you figure which size and whether they would fit.

Hi Garry, I ended up getting them for $183.99 including postage.

As for the size, all my other pairs of gloves have been a medium...
Using the sizing chart from the company I bought from, a medium equals 8 - 8.5 inches.
I also used a tape measure to measure around my hand just to make sure and found that was roughly 8.5 inches so figured Held's size 8 gloves should fit and thankfully they did!  :runyay

Thanks for posting Rusty. I’m not terribly familiar with brand names and I wouldn’t know good from bad just from trying it in the store. I’m always interested in good quality gear, especially if it’s been trialled by someone trustworthy without a sales agenda.

I’m very interested in your road test results of these in both cold and hot conditions. Once Dr Dan let’s you out that is !

*Just a bit of an update...

I went for a short ride during the week to try out the new gloves.
The fingers of the gloves were quite stiff and it was actually quite awkward pulling the clutch in and also wrapping my fingers around the handlebar grip.
I had expected this to a certain extent while things bedded in to my hand shape so I'd given the gloves a good dose of dubbin to help things soften the night before.
Anyhow, this had got a little easier by the time I'd gotten home but it was still quite uncomfortable.

Fast forward to yesterday and with the weather gods smiling, I decided to head out for another longer ride with plenty of stops involving taking the gloves off & on.
By the time I got home the gloves had softened considerably and now were feeling quite comfortable.

So, my impressions so far...They are a quality glove, they fit my hands well with the length of the fingers pretty much suiting my fingers to a tee. Much better than other gloves I own. (For those with extra long or short stumpy fingers "Held" do offer the same gloves with different length fingers as an extra cost option.)

Warmth wise they were toasty but being a fairly mild day (18-19c) it was hard to say how they would be on a cold day but with my hands being slightly sweaty when I removed the gloves I think they'll be plenty warm enough when the weather is chilly.
For these rides so far I have been was using the "warm" part of the glove...I'm yet to use the "summer" section to see how ventilated that part is...
I guess I'll find out soon enough as Summer draws closer...

Cheers  :beer

Thanks Rusty.  That's a massive improvement on my rather cheap winter gloves, which are anything but comfortable and are extremely fumbly. Fortunately, living in The Sunshine State, I rarely use them.

Hey, Mr. Nutz  (Rusty or otherwise lol)

Now that youve had your gloves through all seasons, what do you think of them?

Hi Steve...
While they are reasonably warm, I wouldn't say they are a full-on Winter glove but as an all-round glove I reckon they are okay...

The 2 in 1 option is probably handy for some but, to be honest, I've only used the "Summer" option a couple of times as I have other Summer gloves that I prefer to wear when it's stinking hot.
I guess it does save having to carry a spare pair of gloves with you though... :/
Unfortunately (or should that be fortunately?) I haven't ridden in torrential rain to find out how waterproof they are.

Would I buy them again? Maybe...but not at the ridiculous prices some shops are asking for them in Australia...

In other words, I think you are saying they are 'okay' as a summer glove, and 'okay' as a winter glove, but not exceptional at either.  I think that, for the price, I'll pass.

Thanks for the thoughts.
