My old AutoCom system appears to had died, with the most likely problem being a fault on the circuit board.   I'm therefore looking at replacements and have had some very useful advice from our own Dale McLean at DMME, who has recommended StarCom1 Digital KITB, interfaced with my existing Uniden UHO76SX CB.   I understand that the StarCom unit can be installed under the rider seat in the area of the top of the sub-tank.   Has anyone got a photo of this setup?   Where have other users fitted the CB PTT button, as my old system used VOX?

I mounted a small component box from jaycar above my clutch reservoir and I attach both my MP3 player and PTT to it with Velcro, easy to remove MP3 when the bike is parked.   I also have fitted the helmet lead from the intercom into the box, the advantage is that the box is a solid mount when connecting the lead from the helmet.
At the moment my intercom is behind the pillion seat but I may move it to the left "glove box", then I won't have to remove the seat to adjust the unit.

Hi Pinky - I give the Starcom 1 the thumbs up. Mine is under the seat floating in a piece of foam cut out to protect the unit. The PTT for UHF is cable tied to the inner end of the clutch handle bar so its easily within reach of my thumb. I will try to get a photo when I can for you.

mine sleeps in a tank bag and is normally only used on the longer trips.  I am rethinking this and some suggestions already have been helpful

I'd worry a bit about the effect of the heat in the "glove box" on the Starcom.  It gets very hot in there and some electrickery is heat sensitive.  I have mine sitting on top of the lower tank.  I have two velcro spots to help keep it in place.  There's sufficient room there.  It's getting crowded in mine because I have three fuse holders in the same space, but that's inelegant because a dedicated fuse/junction box up front would be better.

PTT via zip tie under the (L) grip hard up against the grip rubber is the go.....very natural position for you thumb to transmit......as Biggles said watch the heat in the side boxes......I moved my Bikecom from their for that reason to the tail under the rubber retaining strap.

Had a Starcom on ST1100 and was very happy, just need a few minor tweaks to get the control box settings sorted, other wise all good if your happy to be tethered to the bike.

TC has significantly reduced the heat in the left glovebox by lining it along the inside (base) with some sort of heat shielding.  Maybe it was metal tape and a fabric as well but ask and he'll tell you.   I thought the heat would soak through into the box but on a ride last weekend that wasn't the case.

I have my StarCom from Dale and am going through the process of installing the new helmet sets, and routing cables.    I hope to have the whole helmet/music/CB sorted before my trip up to Inverell.   Helmet to Helmet and my iPod interface are sorted.    The final job is to route the PTT and CB interface under the tank and around the inside/top of the left side spar.   Now electricity is not my strong point.    Is there any reason why I can't lightly twist these two cables together, to help keep them bundled, when I cable tie them to the top of the spar?

No reason you can't to make it neater.  Interference issues are more likely from ignition etc that from those cable being together.

  couple of small cable ties and some stick on cable tie mounts works a treat 

Just remember to run INSIDE the frame as the ignition coils are on the outside just in front of your knees

All finished.    The StarCom unit from Dale McLean Motorcycle Electronics is installed in the tail, as it would not fit under the seat due to the seat height settings that I use.  PTT button is on the left side grip in perfect position to activate with my thumb.   PTT and CB interface cables JUST reached, with no more than 50mm to spare.  Phew!!    I've mounted the CB handset on a clutch reservoir RAM mount (Thanks to Paul at Southern Insight for the 2013 MOTY Voucher).    Chris and I went for a spin today to test the whole system out.  The CB does not interfere with my line of sight to the instruments, as the photo seems to show.  I'm pretty pleased with the new coms setup.
