I had looked at that ride but unfortunately it's the same  weekend as the Snowy Ride. Good luck with the ride, just be aware that if your going straight down the coast on the Princess Hwy that a lot of the small towns that you have to pass through can really effect your travel time and slow you down. There's also the major roadworks between Kiama and Berry and the ones at Nowra that are all 60kph limits. Also watch the HWP around Nowra and Batemans Bay.

Actually, if I was traveling from Leumeha to Mallacoota I'd probably go down through Cooma and Brown Mtn, much better run, but it's your choice,.

:dred11 John jwm  I lived at Batemans once.and was a bit worried about 'the small towns along the way' slowing me down, also the known HWP's around and have reconsidered going thru Cooma  and across IMLAY RD to sth of Eden, its only about 50 k's extra so not really a problem.  I was aware of the roadworks down the coast and dont want to suffer them...  lQQks like the other way will be it..  thanx for the advice. :thumbs  :dred11  :beer

No need to worry about HWP's either as a good plan won't bring you to their attention.        :law                       :wink1

Enjoy yourself. There are plenty of knowledgable people there with plenty of collective miles under their helmets.         :thumb

Cheers, Diesel

:dred11 Diesel I'm not worried about HWP's,  aware of them yes i am.  :thumb Not having to surrender $$$ or license points for 15 yrs or so, I think I good planning ability, but as this is my first FarRide I had to think about a timeframe to arrive at Mallacoota opposed to my normal carefree 'hit the road see where I end up' attitude. Leaving an hour earlier is part of my plan  and should be part of other ppl's, for those unexpected things that can delay a journey..   :well    everyone needs a good plan    and should listen/ read from others experiences ,,, it all helps in the getting "there" safely, and home, to plan the next FarRide.. :dred11

Now Marcus has "bumped" this I note that little comment.  I hope you didn't leave before the "window" opened- i.e. 24 hours before the check-in.  Diesel and Streak can tell you why that's a bad idea!   :||||

I noted that when it was posted too Biggles and thought maybe the way it read's, he's starting early Saturday morning, ( which as we know is fine as its a start after the start window opens not before).

Or

Someone's about to get an unexpected lesson .
I never really know how to handle/ comment on those suspect ideas because often its too easily taken completely out of context.
After all there's enough angst spread over too many forums at the moment for any number of reasons.

From what I've read from the far ride website (as I was planing on doing this ride...shakes fist at my wife for having her work break up that weekend)

No starting docket with a time earlier than 12:00pm, because the check in window was something like 12.00pm 12.30pm (lunchtime)

I could be wrong though

FarRide....its one word and it cost a few beers if its spelt wrong.

As long as you start after the time window opens on Friday everything's fine. Get in the habit of asking the cashier if their till is printing the correct time before you jump in if your planning a start  moments after the Kick off time. Not at all unusual to find tills still printing incorrect times months after the AEDST changeover. The big trap is to understand that start times are directly relative to the destinations time zone.
QLD into NSW during daylight savings time has caused trouble so to has NSW into SA and visa versa at any time of the year. You have 24 hours around the checking time including the meeting and the clock starts when you get your start docket.

I'm a traditionalist and have done all my FR's starting Friday ridding through the night and finishing the ride at the check-in.

Hope that's a help Marcus

I'm along the Fossickers Way and always have an ear pricked for the bikes...You never know who it might be. Its surprising how often a distance rider passes through this region.
