Plug and play uhf radio
« on: October 13, 2013, 01:31:15 AM »
A little help is needed from the radio tekkies out there.

I'm looking at installing a UHF radio to the stead and I'd like it to be as inexpensive as I can due to my employment status.

I've found a radio pack that I like and will fit to where I'd like to mount the radio (on a RAM mount between the handle bars) I already have the cigarette socket on the bike and a quartet harness with available slots.

I'd like to use the Sena SR10 to Bluetooth to my helmet (buying a Sena smf10) and a PTT on the hand grip.

So my query is, will this work? Any what do the experts or those who know think about this system

http://www.gadgetcity.com.au/gme-tx3100-plug-n-play-uhf-radio-pack-p-2857.html?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=getprice

Thanks guys.

The TX3100 is quite a good radio BUT they die at the 1st hint of water  :'( (seen it ) so mounting on the bars is not a good option.
There TX modulation can be low too so be aware.

The aerial in the pack will be hard to mount on the ST (not many magnetic surfaces  :rofl, and I rcommend a GROUND INDEPENDANT aerial with around 4.5 dB gain too  :thumb

The Sena I cant comment on  :whistle

That price is better than my buy price on the radio alone  :well
I may ride a Ducati, but I've rode lots of (other peoples :-) ) ST's

Morning Sabie, and in addition to Dale's comments you will need a lead made from the Sena to the GME ($50-$90)

The ground independant another ($40 - $130) depending on your selection.

I have that radio in a work vehicle, when connected to a quality aerial and an external speaker as the GME internal is very tinny it works ok.....but not close to commercial quality.

Your cheaper  in the long run option if you already have the Sena and the Sena hub would be to look at the leads supplied with the Sena and buy a weatherproof/resistant GME or Uniden handheld with a 12volt charging option either bar mount it on RAM if you want to play with it, or put the radio in your Tankbag....set and forget on CH40 or your convoy channel.

The SR10 works very well, making the adapter lead is easy.

For my set up, (Different radio) I bought the generic radio lead and worked out what wire went where then put on the telephone typ plug. Plugged in and away it went

Here is a link http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4519.0 to a thread where my setup was started. Pics about half way down. The radio has been wet (not badly but) snd still works.

Hey thanks Dale, I was planning on putting it in a waterproof case that I've found and I hadn't planned on using that aerial but purchasing an aerial to mount on the rear like other ST's. Chris has some good advice that I'll follow up before purchase.

Thanks again Dale for taking the time to reply.... Cheers :thumb

Good move  :thumb

mount the radio with its bracket inside AND put a couple of 2mm holes in the box at the lowest point for water to ESCAPE, you;ll never keep it all out so make sure sure it can get out before it causes damage  :wink1

What and where is your mounting plan for the case ?? With that being a Din sized box and the TX3100 being a very compact radio it will be like having a 4th pannier at your disposal for extra stuff :nahnah
