Title: Hema Navigator HN7 GPS for 4WD
Post by: StinkyPete on September 01, 2016, 12:10:43 PM
For all you 4WD enthusiasts, I note that the RAA Shops in SA are selling the Hema Navigator HN7 for $499, which is $200 off the RRP.    This is a pest, because I bought one from them last week for $599, which was still a good price.    I'm unsure if other State RAA/RACV have on-line shops offering similar deals.

The HN7 has a really good name both device & software....its probably the easiest off road GPS for most people to use unless you want intricate details of 1:25,000 Topo's.

I use Mud Maps 3 on the iPad ( much'm'biggerer screen  :p) and on the iPhone.... the advantage is we have both these devices with us on trips.....so the $99 app is a more economical option.

Good find Pete

The most detailed of the 4WD maps on the HN7 is now Hema's new 1:150,000 topo maps.

My BT50 came with the 4wd version, not much difference.

You can create your own maps from google earth sat pics, great for your favourite beach access points. I use Ozi Explorer to calibrate the pictures.

By the way, Hema Mapping is served up on a customised version OziExplorer CE.

There is another program needed to convert the .map files to a format that can be used  img2ozf.

have a look at oziexplorer.com  Des Newman is always improving his products, and is quick to reply to communications.

I have been using Oziexplorer for around 20 years for various purposes

My Hema Navigator HN7 crashed after doing a software and map update using Hema's NaviExtras software.    I got in contact with Hema support and then posted it over to them.  They received it on Wednesday this week.    This is the response I got back from them today, just two days later...

This courtesy email informs you that your navigator has been repaired, updated, and ready for dispatch from Hema under warranty. The following works have been provided:
H/W - Battery Replaced
H/W - Battery Tested OK - 1hr 30 mins
H/W - Screen Calibrated
S/W - Street Navigation software reinstalled
S/W - iGO (updated to latest) - 2018.Q1
S/W - 4WD Maps - 2.51c
S/W - Camps 9
S/W - Inc Hema Exp 150k Map
Acc - 12 volt charger tested A-OK

That is truly amazing service, and I've congratulated them on their truly excellent customer support.    I will have my HN7 back in record time,  updated and ready for our trip to FNQ and Mackay.
