I went on a "Training" ride for the OzSTOC SS1600k today.   I left home at 0530hrs to get some dark o'clock hours riding in, and rode to Port Macdonnell and back home again, a round trip of 940km.   I had just two seven minute stops for fuel, snack, guzzle of water and a wee, and was home by 1500hrs, giving me an OA of 97km/h.   All went well, and the new spotties were just brilliant on their first big tryout on the open road.

Didn't anyone tell you, StinkyPete?
The first 900 km is easy. You need to be training for the last 700 km of the SS1600.
Cheers,
Lionel

I'd already figured that out by the time I got home.  :crackup   Neck and shoulders were feeling a bit tight by the end, but I did sit through 400km today, which I haven't done before and it's only the second time I've done over 900 in a day.    I feel like a rank beginner compared to you good folk, and am not bragging about my effort, just informing.

You done good, StinkyPete. I always get the pain in the back of the shoulders as well. But thankfully it disappears after a while.
Part of my exercise routine during a long ride is to turn my head full lock to the left and right, slowly, and when it seems safe to do. I do that approx every 30 mins for about three iterations.

OA 98!!  That's just showing off.
I'm with TJ- 7 minute turn-arounds are the stuff of dreams.
Well done.  I'll follow you on the OzSTOC SS1600 and catch up with you after each stop.

I was pushing myself hard to see what the was fastest OA I could achieve when sitting on 110, and rushing to get the shortest breaks, but would choose longer, and perhaps more stops with time for a stretch and a short walk around.   My 7 min routine was to reset the odometer as I pulled into the servo, helmet off, but still hard connected to my coms,  fill the tank, grab a muesli bar from the top box and start eating, pay, piss, guzzle from a bottle in the top box and go.

it is a great effort and what is great from my perspective is that you are training yourself for this type of ride and discovering some great bits of information on how you ride, well done!!

Thanks for sharing StinkyPete. ++

Good information for those of us starting out on this venture.

Glad to hear the new lights  are working well too.

My FarRide run during the afternoon was an OA of about 90 km/h due to a stop for road works of about 5 minutes and a 15 minute turnaround at the fuel stop.  I wasn't rushing it though as it was my first long distance run and I was using it as an opportunity to recharge before getting back in the saddle.

I've been practicing my SS1600's, slowly building up to the ride on the big Honda ST.  Hopefully the ST won't end up like my poor little CBR did on Tuesday http://www.ironbutt.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10570&PN=1.  I'm really looking forward to this group ride.

I will need new tyres before October, and will fit PR4 GT's.   I now have 20,000 on my PR3's, and expected they'd be done after Uralla.  However, they still look like there's a few thousand left in them, but they won't do the 5,000km October round trip.  Other than that, I plan a few more 1,000km training runs, to test the body and bike set-up.    A set of MCL Highway Blades would be great, but they are out of reach at the moment.   I hope October will be warmer than Uralla in July, as I struggled with cold fingers once temps got below 8 degrees, even with the heated grips.

October should be pretty good, even at night, unless a cold south-westerly comes through off S.A.    :p
