Phones on Bikes
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:13:39 PM »
Went for a run to Beverley this morning, no big deal in that, on the return around 10K's from York my Nokia detached from the Nokia cradle, I wasn't aware until I arrived at home with no phone. On a cruise back down the road the phone was found in 4 pieces which I took home to see what I could do with it, next problem, sim card missing, back on the road. Found the sim card, ay home put everything back together sort of, battery looked as though the dog had chewed it, no display, plugged into the puter and everything downloaded.

Ressurected old Nokia, plugged into puter, updated everything including contacts etc.

What I would like to know is are these ubeaut iphones and such this solid as I am now in the market for a new phone?

So at what age does this "old enough to know better" kick in?
I believe in the "hereafter", every time I go to the shed I have to think "what am I here after"

No, the iPhone would have been terminal. nothing would have been recoverable. My Samsung would probably have been killed as well.

You need a fall proof holder for what ever you get. I prefer Samsung S2, will go for a S4 next time I think

Yep agreed with Brock, mind you I back up my phone before every trip, so if phone dies, I can install a new copy as of the date I left.

I am the iPhone fan of the group, it has been nothing short of superb for me, everything I have asked of it, it does, and is simple to use....

But you will read and hear both sides for sure  :rofl

Although mine has hit the road off the bike yet, i find the iphone awsome to use and like streak mine has done everything i need.
Im really hard on phones so I got me a defender case for it, triples the thickness of the phone but so much more secure.

I have a iPhone too and agree, it does everything I've asked of it + I have over 2,000 tunes on it which is Bluetoothed through to my headset. :rockon

As for their toughness, I was riding to Malcolm's some time ago and getting directions from him (I had the phone in an inside breast pocket at the time). As I was talking to him, I felt something hit my right heel. Thinking this was a bit strange I did a U-turn and about 50 metres back I saw a guy standing in the road holding something (he was in his front garden as I rode past and said he was admiring my bike as I rode past :thumbsup).

He was holding up my phone, Malcolm heard what was was going on, so I have a reliable witness.

It was only in a leather case, which was slightly, and I mean slightly, scuffed. Phone still works but I now have it in a "LIFEPROOF" waterproof case as I have mounted it to the handlebars so I can us it in all weather conditions (I believe they offer better protection also).

I'd get another one without hesitation.

I've got a HTC Mozart although I don't think they're made anymore, mines been good links in well with the bluetooth all voice activated calls and texts which are quite clear.
So the Mozart 7 is a windows phone i haven't had any trouble with it and a fraction of the price of the iPhone.

I've got an iPhone 3GS which I've had for what seems like centuries. It's been on the bike many many times, in my pocket and in a Biologic case. Works well without drama, voice activated calling and answering, tunes in my helmet, GPS app, Fuel Finder app, trip meter app...what more could I want. Haven't dropped it on the road at high speed...and sincerely hope I never do as I'm sure that would be the death of it, they are not designed for that sort of abuse (neither is any phone that I'm aware of.
Cheers,
Paul

My old iPhone 3 fell off the bike at 50-60km/h.    :eek

I didn't see it fall - but saw the empty space where it was 1 min beforehand.    :'(

Stopped and walked back up road to see the poor thing lying on its face with its back scratched and gouged.

As I picked it up to look at the front side glass, I thought the worst.....

But no. It was perfect! switched it off and on again and continued to use it as normal - only now had battle scars.   :rockon      :-++

It answered to the name 'lucky' after that!          :rofl

I have been an iPhone customer for a few years now - but am 'walking the floor' to the Galaxy S4 (released Mar 14).

The S3 is a phenomenal piece of kit, and the S4 supposedly ramps it up again. Plus, 4G capable and an external micro SD card up to 64Gb expandable memory - hard to go wrong.

To find out more - go to YouTube and search Galaxy S3.

Cheers, Diesel
