WESTERN AUSTRALIA National Rally Location Ideas
Ok everyone, throw your ten cents in the Ring and put in your suggestion for which town we should have the WESTERN AUSTRALIA 2016 National Rally in.
Date: 11-13 March 2016
Things we have to think of:
Accommodation
Great Riding Country
Something that gives the town interest for people to visit
Places to see in and Around the area.
Access to Airport for pillions or family who would like to fly in.
so tell us what you think, and why :thumb
-
Accommodation
Great Riding Country

Yep, we have all that, but only the one airport....
-
Yep, we have all that, but only the one airport....
Yep, but you can fly locally to say if you wanted to fly perth to Esperence you can, it is all about the convenience :thumb
-
:phone Ok, After a couple of phone calls my thoughts are:
Location: Pemberton. Has a Caravan Park, B&B's, Homestays, Farmstays etc nearby, Good Hotel with good food. :thumbs :eat :beer
Great roads for riding close by and lots of things to do and see nearby as well. :runyay
Date: Has to be moved as it is the beginning of the school holidays, :well my thought is bring it froward one week to the 1st and 2nd of April. After the school holidays there is too much chance it will be very cold and wet
Nearest Airport is Perth: not that far for a pillion to make the ride on the back
-
That all seems logical to me Ray.
-
Ray southwest sounds good great roads great food great wine great time :thumb
-
The tree walk at Denmark (186kms) not that far away either. I wouldn't mind doing that one again.
-
Ok my $1 ( Gee you overcharge! ) worth would be 22nd 23nd 24th April as I will be able to attend I won't have my Kids that weekend :Chocies
Plus WA schools back on the 19th April :)
Also Monday 25th April is Anzac Day Pubilc holiday so we could all attend that morning a dawn service and then end of rally that day
How does this sound people?
Turtle
The rally is usually arrive Friday, depart Sunday. But let's be different, we are from the West!!
The tree walk at Denmark (186kms) not that far away either. I wouldn't mind doing that one again.
Yep, one of the options I had thought of!
-
I had dates wrong Ray :cuss
Turtle
-
We also discussed Margaret River, Gracetown, Busselton, Dunsborough, etc... it'll depend on the level of attendance of course.
-
Rob,
Yeah, good thoughts, but I think we can forget Margaret River and Busselton. Impossible to park anywhere on any weekend and accomodation would have to be booked now, everytime I have tried to get accomodation with a months notice there was nothing available ( Except the really exy stuff! ) Both towns are packed with terrorists tourists every weekend! However Dunsborough and Gracetown or Denmark are also good candidates. All have accomodation, GOOD food and great roads.
Ray
-
Anzac long week end around Busselton, dunsborough etc can be a problem as can any long weekend. Inland may be better
-

Depends which date we lock in, 1st and 2nd or the ANZAC weekend. I think everyone agrees the 8th and 9th is a no go.
-
What about Prevelly Park?
Just out of Margaret River and on the coast itself. Minutes walk to beach etc.
Plenty to see / ride around just in Margaret River (10 minutes away) or easy to make nice day trip out to Pemberton / Walpole and back.
Caravan Park there has many Cabins with basic cooking stuff (microwave etc).
Alos, close to Nannup ? Bailingup Rd :runyay
Anyway, My 2c
-
OK, I need this set in concrete by wednesday....
Just joking,
At least some ideas are coming in.
One of my concerns is the logistics of organisation, when lots of travel is involved. Its a bit hard to do 8 hrs of riding to inspect sites, and meet with local people to get things sorted. Also airport connections and the like.
-
... 8 hrs of riding to inspect sites, ...
Excellent. New OzSToc term: RTIS. Count me in. We still have until about March 2015 to decide.
-
My 2c
I have a contact in the area and I hear Buss shire may have grants for touristy things such as Ironman and riding events etc
We may need to have a few coffee nights to discuss
:wht11
-
Been doing some digging re events in Sw WA
March
Margaret River Surf Carnival
April
Margaret River Wine Festival
Quit Forrest Rally- Busselton and Nannup
Albany Festival of the Sea
Busselton Ironman Festival
Also Nullabor Muster, a 3 day camping event 380K east of Kalgoorlie
I am thinking April is not a good month for our rally.
-
I've been reliably informed by the Manager Domestic and Economic Affairs that we will be attending the 2016 Rally in WA, and further we will be riding over and back.
-
Bunbury?
-
Plans and locations have been discussed .. :-)
-
Pemberton is good, what about Jurien Bay, Esperence, Albany, Ravensthorpe or Busselton . . All have good caravan parks and things to see . . .?
-
The problem with all of the above is how to get non riders to any of the above and back again with people coming in at different times.
-
:blk11 how about Albany, got airport, winery,s,plenty of accomodation,a lot of other things to see and do
-
Maybe non-riders arrival at the airport could be co-ordinated and a mini bus hired to transport them to wherever the meeting takes place?
-
I've got a novel idea.
Why don't we have a National Rally for riders?
If non-riders wish to come they'll need to make their own way there.
-

Most of the places mentioned in recent posts have TransWa bus or rail services which could be a better option in some cases.

Nice idea Lionel, I like it, but a few might like to bring their bike orientated partners.
Albany sounds a reasonable compromise?
-
Nice idea Lionel, I like it, but a few might like to bring their bike orientated partners.

Too far from the Perth airport.
-
Flights from Perth to Albany were around $200 one way when we were looking at all this earlier. Add that to flights to Perth from east and it rapidly becomes financially unviable for many people. Therefore less attendance. But don't despair of seeing these places. Plans are in place.
-
For reference, location has already been sorted :-)
-
So tell us so we can start planning.
-
So tell us so we can start planning.
We have to wait until next year's rally for that info.
I have a rough route in place which I can update later. From home to Norseman and then to Kwinana (where sis lives) via Esperance and Hyden. Depending on the rally location I can either go on the way or on the way back from visiting my sis.
-
Thanks Alan. Location will be advised at Toowoomba.......

possibly less impressive than someone travelling from South Oz or Vic to find out. :fp

I wasn't mentioning the obvious furthest, since y'all already know! :p
-
im definitly in for the WA one cause I have some rellos over that way and can convince the trouble and strife to go see them whilst I come and have fun at the rally!
WooT.
Just wondering if there are transport options available for our bikes if we dont have enopugh leave accrued to spend the time riding over AND back from North QLD.
-

OzSTOC isn't organising anything. From what I've heard, DON'T use the train. They are very rough on bikes. Road transport is the go, but you'd have to find it yourself. Some guys in here have successfully transported bikes from Brisbane to WA by road.
-
if I go for is ride I will be taking my truck with my bike on the back I can take other bike
-

And some ride......lol this is looking to be my bikes 6th and 7th crossing of the Nullarbor
-
I'm riding. The Westies ride over to our side for events, and I'm happy to ride the other way. :thumb
-
I'll be riding to WA after riding down to Tassie for the Ulysses AGM . . Possibly riding with Lionel and John (SAAZ)
-
I would be happy to ride but my annual leave will not allow the time to ride BOTH ways.
I will need to fly one way and ride the other.
I'm thinking of riding over and flying back.
Actually just had a thought ..... With the right insurance and recommendations I might be able to have one of the pillions in a million who can ride ride it back over if they were keen ..... Never know.
-
Don't forget, it takes less time to ride to the West from the East
than to ride from the West to the East. :crackup
:grin :blk13 :grin
-
We are actually working on something as far as transport for WA. Just waiting on a call back .... that reminds me ... something ense to do tomorrow.
-
if I go for is ride I will be taking my truck with my bike on the back I can take other bike
That means you'll need someone to swap about with the driving/riding. We could pick up bikes on the way from here for those that can only ride one way or can't ride for some unfortunate unforeseen circumstance.
Count me in.
:thumb :bl11

What about Wolf Creek - I believe it's big with the overseas tourists... well it was ;-* ;-* ;-*
-
What about Wolf Creek
Very scenic, but too many gravel roads..
-
Waiting with bated breath for the location of the rally
-
I can revel that its in WA, within 380ks of Perth CBD.
o:) o:) o:)
-
I hope its 380km east of perth..... :H
-
As announced at NR15, it will be held on the outskirts of Perth :-) .... full details as well as extended weekend rides and transport etc will become available. I am still in NSW right now and not due home for a couple of weeks.
-
Google knows everything:
Discovery Holiday Parks - Perth is situated in the foothills of the beautiful Darling Ranges and the start of the world famous Bibblumum Track, only 16kms from the city centre.
Nestled in the Perth foothills and within the heart of the famous Swan Valley wine region, Perth Vineyards Holiday Park is only 14 kms from Perth city.
That narrows it down!

Nearly right- I didn't pay attention to which Big 4, even though it was up for quite a while.
-
Lol ....

I thought i had timed the whole speech perfectly when i turned around and saw the big 4 picture up there. Then when i got back to table i was told it never changed :-(

For me Perth means the CBD and not 14kms away........so about 53 kms from my sister's place if the quoted cvn park is correct.
-
Yup.
Outskirts of Perth.

That had us all wondering. We saw a list of pix in the directory as it was called up, then we sat entranced by the pic of the park entrance. Wot thuh

Yup. That was my fault. Sorry about that. Technical glitch.

Your all set for NSW 2017 Craig......its in October ;-*

Early October please. The other Rally I attend every year is late October. :Chocies
-
is it a big 4 park

Just looked at availabilty and price for the Big 4 Park and it shows no availability for a couple of weeks either side of the 11-13 March 2016 . .

But Allan you miss the fun of the whole event if you don't stay. Even though I lived only 15 minutes away in Toowoomba I elected to book in and stay in the park
-
Is that the only caravan park if so you can't get a booking. Is there another caravan park.
-
Peoples your going to have to be patient, not all the details are sorted yet, the WA team will give us all the information and accommodation deals in good time.
You didnt get details from Toowoomba for a month or two after rally last year...
-
OK mate no probs. :thumbs
-
But Allan you miss the fun of the whole event if you don't stay. Even though I lived only 15 minutes away in Toowoomba I elected to book in and stay in the park
Not sure if I'd miss that much after say 10pm at night until about 8 in the morning.
-
You didnt get details from Toowoomba for a month or two after rally last year...
When I found it was Perth or thereabouts that was enough so I could finalise the last leg into Perth.
-
There is plenty of accommodation. Brand new cabins ( that were in the photos :fp ). Keep Calm.
-
Just looked at availabilty and price for the Big 4 Park and it shows no availability for a couple of weeks either side of the 11-13 March 2016 . .
We have 40 cabins reserved for Ozstoc, also 10% discount, most cabins are 2 bedroom.
For those who were not at Toowoomba, we are planning a 5 day event, Friday will be a run up the coast for lunch followed by a twilight ride, Saturday will be as usual, Sunday departing for Margaret river region, Monday to Albany.
From Albany those who are riding back across can go via Esperance, the remainder can return to Perth.
The Hondashop can freight bikes to eastern states capitals for around 50% what we can organise, Pezzz used them to get his to Brisbane.

So looking at it means, arriving Thursday, a ride Friday, a ride Saturday, a ride Sunday and with overnight I guess in Margaret River before a ride back to the city via Albany on Monday.
I'll leave the southern adventure out as I should be coming in from Esperance and then inland across to Kwinana. Returning home via Kal. It'll be change to do that section in daylight.

as I will have Tirvy with me.

I am taking my truck over so a can take bikes to and of no cost to you
Hey Dave,
That is an awesome offer and I hope members take you up on it with a donation at least to help cover excess fuel costs.
Once the proper thread is started there will be a planning one line there was for Toowoomba so will probably make mention of that again in there.
It was great to meet you last week as well and never did get to catch up with grumpy .... next year for sure :-)
See you over there.
-
Official rally days are just Friday and Saturday with departure on Sunday as normal. Wombat is just organising some great rides around Perth on Friday for the early arrivals. Then it does not take much to twist or arms to ride the South West of the state so we have planned the guided tour run around down south. This can tie in with those riding back or those wanting to travel around WA a bit more :-)
Tipsy ..... will see what we can organize as far as Tirvy is concerned. I may have an enclosed yard by then ....
-
I'm looking at about 15 days for the return trip and allowing 8 of those for the 5400 km to/from trip. So four/five days to annoy my sister and two/three with the rally.......
-
Nice one Alan, I look forward to meeting you there.
-
That is an awesome offer Dave.
As a fellow Dave I would like to propose that all Dave's gettogether and have a truck load of Dave's!
I would also be very interested in taking you up on the offer and putting a truck load of donations towards fuel.
I think you will get lots of interest.
Where would be your start/pick up point?
-
That is a great offer Dave, one I would like to take up.
-
can pick up in qld and nsw
-
Nice one Alan, I look forward to meeting you there.
I hope I make this one unlike the first three where something always came up and I couldn't go. I didn't plan on going to QLD but to go and see my sis this year but the bike needed some work before I could do the longer trip so I held her trip off and timed it with the WA rally instead.
The only thing I need to sort out is route the from Esperance. I thought about going via Hyden but have done that so via Lake King seems ok. https://goo.gl/maps/DtuH9

I'm looking at a 14-16 day round trip. I'll leave either the Saturday or Sunday before, do a Centreline 36 on the way down then stay a night with a friend in Kimba. From there, 2-3 days to Perth depending on how I'm traveling. If I get to Perth early, I have family and friends I can stay with until the rally kicks off. Coming back, I'll ride up to Broome then head east. Hopefully the weather gods will be nice....worst case, if the weather isn't friendly, I'll head back via Pt Augusta again. Just depends on the monsoon.
-
How many bikes can you Carry Daveinbus
-
I am tossing up whether to go to the Ulsses AGM in Launceston 29 Feb to 6 March 2016, then wander over to WA. A few of us might be doing the same (Lionel, STroppy at least, any others?) Going back, may go north and across to the east coast and down. May do the same after the Border Run this year, going to those places I have not managed to as yet.
-
Sounds like a great trip Saaz.
-
24 bikes
-
Could be a little cramped in the cab with that many passengers....
:eek :eek
-
:crackup :crackup :rofl :rofl
-
no passengers....only bikes
-
Do you have a photo of your Truck to post up Dave?
-
no I drive the truck I do not show it
-
That's what i say about my. ....... oh that's right it is family rated on here ..... on my way to the corner now Brock.
-
If I can get the time off i'm thinking of heading over.. 10,000km round trip, should be fun :-)
-
We are making plans already as well. We had a few different plans to travel over and back but have decided to try for enough time of together to ride over and back :hatwave

Johnny, there are 30 odd cabins reserved for us at the Big 4 caravan park mentioned earlier. Mention OzSTOC to them but hold of until after this weekend so I can touch base with them to let them know that orders will start coming in.
There is a variety of cabins available sleeping from 1 to 4 (or 6 depending on who and how good friends you are).
They have just revamped their brochure and it is on their site.
-
Lionel, John (SAAZ) and myself will leave Canberra in time to attend the Ulysses AGM in Launceston from 29 Feb to 6 March and then be heading directly over to Perth via the Ferry of course for the Perth OZSTOC meet . . 11 to 13 March . . . Maybe come back to Canberra via Darwin, Townsville . . . Who knows . .

Just wanted to see what kind of truck the bike might be travelling in. So since there's no further information other than its a truck and Dave's driving it I'll let it pass thanks.
No offence Dave, I'm sure your an excellent driver but I'd need more info than its a truck.
Cheers

Agreed with Sabie, we would need some more info on how it would work, and making sure of how it would work and getting a visual on how our bikes would be transported, It is more covering everyone so we are all on the same page as to the safe transport of bikes, that Dave is not out of pocket transporting all the bikes over and back.
And everyone on both sides is happy with the process

its a Isuzu fvd 1000 long so go have a look at it on the net

That's probably me at least. Haven't decided which way to go, but can do that closer to the event with local knowledge and weather.
I will probably be doing the Border Village-Perth and up north and around trip in early August this year so can check things out. It may be tourist pace, it may be riding, it may be both. I will not know until I am on the road :think1
I don't really have to be back until the tri state event at Balranald on 19 September, although there are events in late August. That's assuming family stuff does not go pear shaped in the meantime, but you can't plan for that.

I've no intention to offend just the info coming through is to sketchy even when asked. Like is it a tray back, tilt tray, soft side pantec, ridgid pantec????
I'm sure everything will work out fine for those using Daves transport, thanks Daveinbus apologies if I've offended at all.

no way I do not take offence I am go to get pics of how the bikes are tied down and the truck is a tilt tray and I have all bikes will be covered up :13Candy

Hey all, speaking with caravan park on Monday as contact is on leave until then to organise keyword to use when booking.
There are 8 x 3 bedroom units and 20 x 2 bedroom units all brand new with covered parking. Each room has double or queen bed from memory.
All units have been reserved for OzSTOC for the weekend so once the bookings are open, get in and get your place. Have what we hope to be a well planned and enjoyable rally in planning with a great catch up and chat with some of the lads on Thursday.
See you all there and will be in touch on here again on Monday or Tuesday :hatwave

Spoke to Debbie today. Mention OzSTOC when communicating with them.

Pezzz what about an Official WA 2016 Cabin Share thread like last rally, :like :think1 so do you know the cost per cabin with discount as when I rang them a few weeks back they hadn't set the rate yet?
:popcorn
-
When i spoke to Debbie there was still no rate yet and they had issues with a new website. You can still go to their site which i will find and past today to look at accommodation.
And yes a cabin share thread low this year's one will be a definite once i get to my computer for non work related stuff.
-
:dred11
:thumb Pezzz The website is good for a look, they told me they have grouped OzSTOC cabins all in 1 area, but they will rent 2 bed single room poolside cabin or other sizes if people want a bit of separation from the group...
-
My cabin is booked :runyay :runyay :runyay
Debbie mentioned a probable 20% discount :thumbs

Cabin booked for Marg and I, defininite 20% Discount for OzSTOC :-++
:grin :blk13 :grin
-
WOW:
WOW !!!! 20% discount.. that is better than the 10% we were originally talking about .....
Well done people... will hope to see many of you there.
Keep your eyes peeled to the National Event section of the forum ...... :think1 :think1

Been discussing this with the Appointments Secretary and Dave's offer is great. So as another Dave I'd like to express my interest also.
At this stage thinking of only riding one leg though (over or back) and I'd also be annoying assorted cousins before/after rally but definitely interested!!

That is a decent trek ..... looks like a few people may take the excuse of WA National Rally to complete a lap around the paddock.

I may keep on going as well, as I would have scouted out places to revisit from doing a lap after the Border Run.

Just booked our cabin :thumbsup

Pezzz, I think this thread needs a tidy up or it should be closed and a new one started, took me awhile just to find the link to the park.

Those of you planning on riding across the Nullarbor might be interested in this.

I was considering going via York, Bruce Rock and to Merredin on the return trip. I also considered adding via Hyden but I don't think the ST will like the 200 km dirt road from there to Norseman.

I put that table together initially for my ride home from Brisbane on the 1800. My now standard route and I think the best, between Tammin and Perth is via York. But on the 1800 I think I may do Merriidin, Bruce Rock, York that you mention. It will be about 30 kms longer than the Tammin, York but I haven't done it before.

When do you ride your new bike home Glen?

Pick it up first thing Saturday week (19th).
Have you found anything interesting yet?

OK folk, here's the WA 2016 National Rally Shirt. Our sponsors will be listed on the back. I reckon it's the best Rally Shirt yet, with an outstanding design and great local colours.
If you want one, head to http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=9868.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=9868.0) and register for the WA 2016 OzSTOC National Rally.

Perth to Brisbane in March 2016
Hi we can transport up to 10 bikes and riding-camping gear free of charge
1 bike $1050.00
3 or more bikes $900.00 each
5 or more bikes $800.00 each
We require a $250.00 NON refundable deposit per bike to lock in the booking
Full balance required per bike no later than 21 days prior to pick up
We provide a door to door service and can meet you in a local park to unload or at your motel or near the event
If your dates or plans change just let me know and we will accommodate your needs and if we can't we have other drivers to help out
We don't have a truck , our trailers have all of the correct tie down points to eliminate fork damage
Each bike is fitted with an alarm during transit
As this is a planned event and to ensure we can accommodate your needs we would need you to confirm the booking and pay the deposit within 14 days
I will then lock it in to keep 3 weeks clear to accommodate any changes that may be need to added or subtracted from the booking
Hope we can do business together
Thanks

Well, as much as I hate to say it after all the planning I have done... At this stage I won't be able to attend unless I fly over.
I have a very important appointment on the 8th March in cairns, and the idea of doing 5300km in 3.5 days is a bit much for me. :eek
If the situation changes, or I work out a way of attending I will be there.. I had just finished getting the trailer sorted, bike sorted, and work sorted.. :OldMan

Why not ship the bike and fly over, then ride back?
-
Or the other way .. ride over, ship back cheaper then collect from depot after your engagement in Cairns.
-
Ah .... i see ... I read the timings backwards. Ignore my last comment.
Do what Wendy said ..
-
Was there going to be a $500 bike ship back from WA thing going on or did I dream that?
If so, if so was there a post about I missed re deposit etc

Organise direct with Chris at the Honda shop. Price depends on location obviously. There is a thread with all contact details for Chris somewhere here.

Why not ship the bike and fly over, then ride back?
The cost of shipping the bike and trailer from Cairns to Perth, plus airfares is just beyond my budget by quite a bit. I was planning on taking 3 weeks to do the trip free-camping the entire way apart from the perth nights.
Shipping just the bike is $1300, but my trailer is quite large and would take another two bikes spaces on the truck.. :-(
-
Condensed packing on the bike? I bought a field bag that goes on the back seat and expands out to width of panniers. Cost about $230. Between that and and panniers, Trina and I did Toowoomba to Perth. Granted we stayed in motels and apartments at average $100 per night.
If you are single up and have top box as well, could fit tent and sleeping bag and all else you need fairly easily.
Just a thought.

I did that when I went to melbourne with the tent, and have thought about it again.. I would much rather take the trailer and enjoy the trip a lot more as its setup to park up for days at a time in comfort.
If the situation changes, or it looks like I can be out of the appointment by lunchtime on the tuesday I may still decide to just go and see how I go... The biggest problem with doing it in the timeframe is fuel availability on some of the roads, even though I can carry extra the bike gets thirsty when towing on those inland roads when away from towns.. ;-*
But for now i'm just putting all plans on hold.. there will always be another rally and chance to do the ride around AUS. For now I will just hold off and see what happens..
-
Cool mate ... hopefully all works out but as you said, this will not be the last

Spanner
I'm waiting for quote back from Chris at Honda Shop in Perth to ship my bike back to Queensland after the rally (I've already booked flight).
Unless I hear something shortly I could well be part of this.

Chris is only just recently back to work after an off. I will try to contact home tomorrow to remind him. Can you please pm me your details? Cheers.

Thanks Pezzz, Chris emailed me yesterday with quote of $250 for crating and $920 (inc GST) shipping to Bundaberg. He apologised for the delay, apparently someone in sales was supposed to get back to me! Depending on Spanner and others maybe Bikes2u get some business after all.
Cheers and thanks for follow-up
-
No problem. Yeah the crating cost is more than mine was but they actually want to create then better than mine as my crate broke. Mine was also delivered to capital city as well so no extra freight.

Hi all,
I have made the decision (based on the cost of $ and time) to fly over with Carrol and hire a bike locally.
So while I will be joining everyone there it just won't be on my beloved ST :blu13
(I decided to go with a bike that I have never ridden before just for something different :wink1)
Cheers

That was my reasoning for flying to the last one. This time I have planned far enough ahead to actually ride :grin

It's OK Shiney, I'm doing exactly the same thing.... It's too far for me to ride at the moment I don't think my health would stand the distance.. So don't feel bad, your not alone...

Worst case scenario i will be doing the same thing.
I was informed last night that my second lot of holidays being the last 2 weeks of march (the easter period) will not be looked at for approval until next year.
The first 2 weeks of march have been approved.....leaving me stuck in no man's land.
:cuss :cuss :cuss ity :cuss :cuss
-
The likelihood of getting the last 2 weeks annual leave approved in march to ride to Perth is now very low.
I have had 2 of the last 3 easters off so accordingly i have booked flights today.
Departing wed.9th,returning monday 14th.
See you there :beer
-
OK boys and girls
We have been listening and would like you all to attend in March but we understand the time constraints and cost involved.
In order to attend the Saturday night meal and event we have a bus available so an executive decision was made and we have the use of this for Friday and Saturday.
This will allow us to pick people up from the airport and if you would like to come without the expense of bike hire it will be available for a select few to attend the festivities on the Saturday.
So if you are on the edge of your seat this might tip the balance so get onto the net and get a plane ticket.
We will follow up on this soon so you can put your name down on a list and tell us your arrival times so we can organise pickups and delivery etc
Keep an eye out cause we will tempt you with preliminary rides and events you can participate in
For the time being all keep safe and we hope to see you in March
Cheers Yorkie :grin, Pezzz :grin and Wombat :grin

Being retired and living only 18 minutes from the Airport I will be happy to do pickups and drop offs from and to the airport any time from late (after about 10:45pm)on Monday 7th and up until late Sunday 20th for those going home.
-
It is your choice to hire a bike however this rally is focused on socialising rather than riding although there are rides for those who are interested.

Perth Rally Reminder
It's just ten weeks to Perth National Rally. :eek
If you have not yet registered, it's time to pull your finger out and get it done. Note that your registration fee is refundable up to the 29th January if you need to withdraw.
If you have registered, you need to get your accommodation booking sorted out now, as another group has dibs on any of our reserved cabins that are not booked before late January.
It's also time to get your leave passes approved, and to start getting your travel plans in some sort of order.
Bring on March, and the much anticipated Perth National Rally that our local WA team has been working so hard to organize.

RALLY REMINDERS
1. If you are still considering attending, please get your Registration done NOW, as we have a lead time for printing of T-Shirts and production of the right number of badges and patches.
2. If you withdraw from the Perth Rally, we are not in a position to offer a refund of your $45 Registration Fee after Friday 29th January. This is driven by the timelines for production of the shirts, patches and badges.
3. As Yorkie has pointed out, we loose our rights to the reserved cabins in the Caravan Park at the end of January, so please make sure you have your accommodation sorted out.
-
Those of you planning on riding across the Nullarbor might be interested in this.
I have reworked my original spreadsheet to tidy up a few things and to finish at the Rally location. Then produced another one via Northam as against York.
If you like some country roads I highly recommend coming via York as against Northam. It just involves a little navigation to get through Tammin.
Please note that while Northam is a reasonable size town by WA Standards the Great Eastern Highway completely bypasses it and to get petrol you would need to go into town.
Edit oops sorry guys changed the names for the via Northam one now I will change the distances.

The last time I was over that way by bike I used to overnight in Boulder (free accomm. with bro in law) and from there I'd do Merredin easily even towing the trailer. To play it safe I refuelled at Meckering and run straight through to my sis's place in Calista. If I didn't do the visit the family thing then I'd have done Norseman, Southern Cross, Meckering (play safe) then to sis.

When we do the Border run we do Eucla, Caiguna, Norseman and Southern Cross.

While onsite at his years NatRally key members of the Rally team will be able to be identified in the sea of OzSTOC members by their cap.....National Rally Co-Ordinator (StinkyPete) Perth NatRally team (Yorkie, Wombat, and Pezzz) OzSTOC Shop (PC & Navgirl) and Forum Moderator (Brock).
These members are all being identified easily to answer your questions during NatRally.
Lookout for these caps ;-*

Chris and I are now driving car and caravan. Hiring a bike if I can in Perth.
If any Victorians need stuff taken over, spare helmets or gear give me a ring or PM. Should have bit of room.
If any local members know where I could leave van for the weekend could they PM me as well. We are using cabin with Stinkypete and Chris and co. There may be somewhere in the park we can hide it. I will ring them in the morning.
Really looking forward to this trip and the rally.😄👍

If nothing better comes up, You can park it in my back yard. Access is through double gates.

What he said
I am unable to attend this event as l will be heading over in about 6 weeks time.
I had planned to go but minor bike repairs and an upcoming car repair got in the way and it doesn't look I'll be getting over their anytime before August.
I will be looking forward to the reports on the best places for food and accommodation.
I've been across a few times and generally bush camp beside the road for free even though all the roadhouses have accommodation available. Food is a personal thing but for me after Ceduna I generally have some in the trailer.
-
The WA event has been on my radar for a long time, but I've been struggling to keep work off it. I'll be skiving off work early on Friday to get there, and hopefully able to do the southern run afterwards.
Looking forward to catching up with some members both old and new.
Ride safe everyone!

Approx 23 degrees today from Ceduna to Border Village. Local thunderstorms cut power to Penong so we were unable to get fuel there.
Fortunately, Terry was able to obtain 10 litres from a motorist, though it cost him $20. We then got to Nundroo.
We didn't mind the rain after the 40 degrees at Hells Gate and 38 degrees most other places.
Norseman Monday night.
The anonymous member from Victoria has parted company with us and Chops has returned to Canberra as planned.

Day one finished. Lost my GoPro remote to the road gods 10 minutes in. Danny had coolant issues at Ararat, all better now. 39 degrees all day and rain in Adelaide. A bee decided to ram his arse into my face at 110km and now we're at Port Pirie, decided to stop before the heavens opened up on us. Krispy Kreme factory was a high light. All up a good day. The adventure continues.

Currently in Norseman while BenT gets his bike to Kalgoorle to get it repaired. We had 37- 39 across to Ceduna but last two days of 22-24C and rain showers across the Nullarbor. (Possible discussion topic: do STs really handle 25-35kph crosswinds?). On track to get to Perth Thursday afternoon.

STranger and I have juST checked into the Kimba Caravan/motel room 3.for some much needed sleep in a bed. I rode the last 70 k's in rain which I had prayed for .. it certainly cooled us both down. I'm going to relax after using all the hot water to soothe my sore body.
After yesterday heat, collapsing at Hay I finally left Hay about 8pm,got fuel at Balranald the rode to gol gol and stopped for a rest only to have a Hwp move me on,, oops I posted all that with Tapatalk this morning from Renmark SA.. Today I went on an adventure thru new places leaving the STurt hwy at Bamera and going thru Morgan, Burra,Mount Bryan, got a pic for another thread there, ;), then left at Hallett to Jamestown,Appila where I found 100kph DIRT,, oops youiie and onto Booleroo Melrose, Wilmington then left to Port AuguSTa and down the mountain. I had the cam going but not sure how much I captured as the dam battery died.. I also got a few pics on my phone but the dam thing rebooted ( I hope not ReSTored) so I may have lost my pics,,,I also captured a milestone 170,000 so I hope it was reboot! I didn't STop long in Port AuguSTa juSt feul and electrolytes to get to Kimba to get a room by a tea towel and stickers for Kimba at home... Pics will have to wait til I'm home on a Ride Report.

Everyone getting all sorts of unexpected bonuses- e.g. the SENA importer did an overhaul on several folks' bluetooth sets, including mine.

This years award for National Rallies "Silliest Moment" was won by.........BenT from QLD.
(http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/q717/ST2UP/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/06DE1A61-A2C4-48B9-92F4-AA00449C3860_zpslghpakqa.jpg) (http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/ST2UP/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/06DE1A61-A2C4-48B9-92F4-AA00449C3860_zpslghpakqa.jpg.html)
Ben was our first choice for this award last year in Toowoomba (until PC out did himself with his lunchtime comment to Navgirl). Ben and his wife Chris arrived at the Big4 in Toowoomba wondering why all these ST's were here......he hadn't been following the forum and didn't realise that National Rally was on in Toowoomba that weekend in that park.......we must have made a great impression on them as they headed all the way to WA for this years gathering.
Now enter this years Silliest moment....Ben decided to take his BMW bike as the seat was more comfortable for the distance they were to travel to WA instead of his ST1100..... the catch was the BMW had a "thing" halfway across WA and Hertz took care of the rest of the journey.
Nice one Ben :nahnah and well earned......now be sure to tell the story when asked about the trophy on your mantle piece ;-*

We're off to The Pinnacles tomorrow, then back to Perth to put Mrs Biggles on a plane home. Then I'll put up a SPOT for my bimble homewards.
A walk around the yard compared with Skidoooo and Abe.

Biggles, there is an awesome announcement going to be put up on here regarding that prize you won !!!! I am excited .. glad you are taking some time to look around our backyard. New Norcia is a lovely little place full of history. Did you get the full run down on the hotel and did you look through the monastery and school?

Wine-E-Girl and I went to Kalgoorlie to see the Super Pit overnight then off to Eukla for a stay in the next best thing to the Bates Motel , their "budget accommodation " not real flash. Another short trip to Ceduna to find a bed that you can actually sleep on :wink1 Now relaxing watching a big storm hit our caravan park at Port Germein.
The guys at WA need a big thanks for all their efforts and help over the weekend. Nothing was too much trouble.
Great to catch up with those we met in Toowoomba and meet new members.
We both had a great time and are looking forward to the next AGM

When ever I year about the Kalgoorlie Super Pit I have a little chuckle to myself.
In the early eighties I spent 7 years living in Newman and working at the Mt Whaleback Iron Ore Mine.
In those days we mined about 100,000 tonnes of iron ore a day and moved 200,000 tonnes of overburden (waste).
Yes the Super Pit is interesting and in terms of gold mining, large, but if you are ever passing through Newman try to do a tour of the Mt Whaleback mine.
Go to earth rather than maps for the following:-

I wonder where along the road is the Pete of Stinky Fame?
I'm home safe after a quick trip home following a wonderful rally, and needed to be home to support the family with a medical crisis. I left at Perth "Sparrows" on Tuesday morning and rode through York to Hyden, Esperance and on to Norseman for an overnight. No ST's spotted all day. Wednesday was another pre-dawn start and I overnighted at Nullarbor Roadhouse, and again saw no STs. Thursday morning was another beautuful pre-dawn start with home in my sights. I spotted Octane, Lonerider1 and JohnnyYTED in Port Augusta, but had shot past before I spotted them. Soon after Port Augusta I rode into a storm of biblical proportions, with the strongest cross winds I have ever ridden in and heavy rain. The temperature dropped 15 degrees in a few minutes. I lowered the screen, and crouched behind it, and was buffeted so hard I could not take a hand off the bars to set the camera running, and barely kept the bike on the road. There was no safe place to pull off the road, so I pushed on through, and once past just kept riding to keep in front of it. All I could see in my mirrors was black sky. I arrived home at 6.00pm after a fun final hour battling crawling peak hour traffic.

We arrived home (Sydney) today after our coast to coast round trip covering 10,010 Kms in 21 days. Not up to the standard of Biggles and co but we think you guys are nuts anyway!. We had a fantastic trip and both the ST and our accompanying Hornet performed faultlessly as did our Michelin PR4's.

Mine has faded badly after being washed once, there has been a degree of shrinkage as well as the t shirt is shorter than it was.
Looks like the supplier used inferior products so as to further their profits.... just saying.

Thanks mate, i have used the same JB's T-Shirt for all the Rallies (accept the very first one, Honda kindly donated those), so i would say, no i have not used an inferior product :thumb the screen printer i used is also the same fellow we have used for every rally, so he is also a trusted supplier, i have organized a rally shirt to be posted to me, so i can take it to my screen printer, at this stage it looks like we will replace the lot.

Missus Biggles just rinsed ours by handwash, but there was still a bit of colour bleed from the black.
Frankly, it doesn't both me, as I don't normally wear T shirts anyway, so wouldn't be wearing these anywhere. The previous four are neatly folded in the drawer where they went after their respective Rallies. I regard them as a two-day wonder that identifies us while we're at the Rally.

I went down to the shop and saw a red 1300s plus trailer parked in front of the supermarket. Turned out to be Navgirl & PC. They stayed o/night at Port Augusta and were here wasting a bit of time. Next stop for them is Morgan via Burra. If they were sick if wasting time here I mentioned the old copper mine at Burra as a possibility. Last I saw of them was their 1300 parked at the local bike museum.
After Morgan they're running the southern side of the river to Tocumwal (???) then to West Wyalong.

Needless to say we enjoyed our time in Perth and would like to thank the organisers for the supreme effort in making this AGM so successful. Can't blame them for the weather which even foe Queenslanders was a little too hot, just no humidity.
It was a pleasure to again catch up with past friends and make new ones. We are looking forward to the next AGM. :thumb :thumbsup :thumbs
A special thanks to the mighty ST1300 that provided us with transport. I had my doubts about the ability of the ST as I had not travelled any great distance before, even with the trailer and two up it handled the trip with aplomb. Got a service as soon as we arrived and apart from requiring a new tyre very soon there weren't any signs of wear and tear. She is a keeper. Still struggling with the comfort of the seat and cursing we didn't take up the offer from Marcus to test his perch :'( :'( :cuss

Awesome work guys, welcome home :hatwave
It's a good thing you didn't try Marcus's seat... they aren't cheap :eek
The main problem with them is that once you have ridden on a Russel Day Long all other seats are just rubbish :'( so then you have to save up and buy your own >:()

I had a little bit of interest in some of my farkles at the Rally so here is the info:-
Rear tip over bars
I purchased mine from http://www.bygdawg.com/ (http://www.bygdawg.com/)
and similar ones are available from http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3&products_id=320 (http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3&products_id=320)
Obviously I preferred the ones from BygDawg as they are not as bulky as the MCL ones
Here are some threads from ST Owners about tip over bars.

If you search there are more.
I also fitted these to go with the tip over bars:-

Here is the BwgDawg tip over bar with the MCL passenger foot peg lowering bracket. Also in the photo is the MCL Rider foot peg lowering bracket. I have now removed these and they are for sale at half price.

Front Fender Extender
I got mine from "blue" one who started this thread:-
http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?92265-Stuff-STopper-Fender-Extender (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?92265-Stuff-STopper-Fender-Extender)
I used ABS glue but also fitted three small bolts (don't fancy it falling off and going under my back wheel at the wrong time).
The white lines on the fender are not scratches but reflections from my torch.
