NEW POLL - Exhaust Pipes....
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:10:22 PM »
I have found it hard to part with $1000 for a sweeter note and a 4hp gain on my ST13 as far as after market zorst pipes go....

But - have a listen to these Staintunes on a 13 under power - Yeah Baby!...

I had a 4 into 1 Laser Muffler on my CB750 and she sang an 'oh so sweet' melody. The ST13 by comparison is quite refined and demure.

ST11s sound a lot better off the shelf I reckon.

Whadda you think - running standards or after market?

Post away...    :popcorn

I'm running standard at the moment, but your missing Delkevic from the list,
They have a few different shapes and sizes for the ST1100 and ST1300, the baffle can also be removed by means of a stainless steel bolt.
And free delivery in Oz, not bad for AU $699.00   :thumb

Check out the link to the Oz eBay store...

West Aussie Glen will be away for awhile.
His vote is Staintunes.
It does sound good. We followed him when We won the record for the most OZSTOC shirts at an RTE in Beverley.
We could hear him when he opened it up to pass cars. Nice.

First model Staintunes on the ST11 (no removable baffle). I was happy with the standard pipes as I am all over too loud, and besides no power gain on the ST11.  But my left exhaust hanger welded to the muffler broke, and I found someone with a set of factory seconds he never used (minor dent you cannot even see) for $350.  When I clean and polish them they look rather nice.

I fitted Staintunes mainly for the exhaust note. Trouble with ST1300s is they go so fast you leave the exhaust note behind.

But they do sound good when you are in the lead Glen.

I have a set of two bro. Slip on carbon. They sound like the bike has some balls now. A friend of mine has a 1300 as well and he has Staintune, Mine has a deeper sound then his. His feet get hot from the Staintune pipes, where as my pipes your feet don't get hot.
I like other people to hear you before they see you. With standard pipes you sneak around in stealth mode like a copper :blk13

I fitted staintunes to replace the rusty standard ones and found that the stainies have improved the midrange quite a bit, particualy in the 2000 to 4000 rpm range. This makes it much quicker in overtaking situations and a nice note as well. :thumbsup

When I got the 1100 with the Staintunes on it I went on a group ride and an ST1300 (and ex ST1100 owner ) rider said he was stunned that he actually heard the 1100 when I passed him. He wasn't used to being able to hear an ST.

I've been looking at a set of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/180530907891?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
I know we should buy in OZ but at nearly $250 price difference it means I'll get them rather than just think about it

I wasn't about to spend $700 just to sound a bit more like a HD, but at $458 they become more interesting when there is a 5kg weight saving and a slight increase in power.

I wonder how often the Dept of Motor Transport tests the CO2 emissions on motorcycles?  I've rarely heard of it in cars, but if they woke up to these having no catalytic converters they could nail you.

I would say acceleration has improved :thumb but I haven't done any tests or anything to back that up
I have found that now if I accelerate hard when the rpm hit around 5 the front wheel starts to lift (Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened) :eek
And as always it sounds better :grin

I've found with two up and quick off the lights it's very light in the front end without even trying   :-[

I had my 1100 start to stand up on me coming out of right turn from lights where hoon P plater thought he was going to undertake me.
I had just clicked into 2nd and was starting to straighten up thank goodness so momentum was there,,gave it some and it must have been a tad more than needed  :grin and it felt SO GOOOOOD..... cruised away straightening up with bloody great smile on dial, back on 2, got to speed limit and continued on my way, have not seen hoon since and have also been a little more cautious since.  :thumb
Still breathin.
