This is my newly purchased secondhand 1998 1100. It had fallen on it's side (parked) and scratched a few bits so i decided to paint it before i even start using it.

it looks terrible naked!
a stack of screws, bolts and clips to find places for when it goes back together..
the Givi top box will have the top half painted to match
i'll post more pics as we go (sorry, forgot to take a 'before' pic)
i reckon there are about 30 different plastic parts lying around the shed floor now, going to be a lot of work rubbing them all down!
new exhausts, bar risers and screen going on it too, also a seat mod... i have short legs and a tall body, so i struggle to reach the ground but get a lot of buffeting so, lower seat, higher screen, higher bars, sit up straighter, that is the plan.

I think you might need a seat similar to this one. There are a few companies to choose seats from.

Mine is a Saddlemen Gel Seat which I bought from the US for about $500 delivered, but that was nearly two years ago. The riders position is lower than standard and due to the seat design I tend to sit a little further back. The pillion seating is higher than standard. But like any seat, after a couple hundred kays they become uncomfortable so we added a goat skin cover which we made up.

I can't offer any input about the exhaust sytems as mine are still ok but it's something I will have to look at down the track.

I had the same seat Allan, and didnt like it. It sloped back too much, and that bit just in front of the rise had a 1/4" gap that the bum slid in to. 30 Ks and the arse was in agony. I had the front bit redone by a local motor trimmer, lowered a little , reshaped and recovered. Way better

I dunno, I reckon the ST11 looks bloody awesome naked. Like something out of Mad Max 2. I've seen a couple on the 'net that use a 7" round headlight. Looks the part.

Can't wait to see her finished Leethal. Are you going a stock colour or something different? Regarding the variety of clips, screws etc, I use a plastic tackle box to keep the bits in whenever I do any work. I place items in individual compartments depending on location on the bike. If the job goes for more than one day you can close it up and not have to worry about dogs/kids/yourself kicking them across the floor. :)

Anyhow, can anyone recommend a good painter in the Toowoomba area? I've sold my BMW and am looking at getting one of my pannier lids repainted. I've ordered new mirror covers since they are a bit scuffed up (from previous owner).

Don't know if thhis is of any interest but I will throw it it in anyway. You can colour code the grey panels, don't try rub them down just use plenty of high build primer and rub that down. Mines been done a couple of years and I like the overall look.

I have never seen a Goldie in the flesh but hope to soon (HarieG coming to Inverell?..otherwise have to go to North Queensland). If I was going to repaint my police model the Goldie would be a serious colour...along with that Goldwing yellow. And without looking up the answer, the wheels were a different colour as well??

yeh, filling the grey bits and painting sounds good, love the look of the lower section painted on your bike alphafang.
the before pic is the same as yours Allan1100.

i am thinking about modifying the side service covers to show the whole cam covers on the engine because these look cool!
the colour of choice at the moment is GMH Voodoo Blue, the bright blue you see on VE Commodores, maybe the slightly more subtle would be the GMH Impulse blue from the VZ models

dont get me wrong, i'm not trying to stuff up the ST, just want to make it a bit more 'individual', 'cause that is what i am :), even at 59 years....

found what looks like a good screen from 'screensforbikes.com' (Aus) at $197 for 550mm high with vents and subtle side flares, light grey tint. this will be the one i get.

the seat i have is already a modified one so i think i'll try a local trimmer to mod it some more, i need to move the bum bump forward plus get it a bit lower.

With the standard seat my RH knee would all ways contact the grey fairing filler panel. With my new seat I'm sitting a little further back which makes it better for my knee. The seat cover just adds a little more comfort for both of us.

I still have the original seat and we have an upholsterer in town and I'm sure he could improve it should I need to replace my seat again.

hmmm, good thought Alan, i have not checked how much clearance i have, i just wanted to sit up straighter to relieve pressure on my wrists and neck (arthritis!). perhaps i better wait until i have the bodywork back on and check it out...

Anything that gets your knees off that grey panel on the 1100s has got to be good. I went the other route and put firm rubber pads for the knees to rest in.

Got my new Delcavic mufflers from the states today, the ST1100 Stubby version in oval shaped stainless. They certainly look the goods! Can't tell how they sound yet as i need those seals that go between the pipes and the collector... Honda shop tomorrow. Got the pipes off Ebay ex USA for $375 landed and it only took 10 days!!!!
Also got a set of 30mm high risers off Ebay, will fit those this weekend..
The new screen will be here next week, the one i spoke about above.

Also attached some pics of the bits that were grey and are going to be body colour, plus the pile of other panels to paint... :-)
Lots of fine rubbing down to do yet then it's off to the painter with all the bits.

Well, the panels have gone to the painter for their new Voodoo Blue top coat. The mufflers are all fitted up and i have to say even if only in the shed, they sound bloody awesome! The 30mm bar risers are on but still a little work to do on the plastic over the bars... The bar end weights have gone off for chroming and new the blue and chrome grips have arrived

I don't know if I'm committing a faux pas here but it doesn't seem worthwhile starting a new topic for.

Does anyone know a code for the paint on the camshaft covers of the 1100's? Mine have corrosion creeping under the paint so I'd like to blast and paint them when I do the valves.

I might be wrong Brett, but i would think it is just clear acrylic over the pollished alloy. Have them bead blasted, re-polished and re-cleared...

Nah Leethal, it's definitely a metallic silver. I can get an eye match but paint mobs up here get a bit antsy matching small quantities.

I can't recall seeing an official colour for the cam covers. I will see if I have saved any tips about a colour that matches the OEM, otherwise an eye match and paint both the same should be ok.

I have seen reference to using silver hammerite paint, and using an entirely different colour (eg red or black) I have also found references to matching the dark panels and wheel paint on the ST11.

I touched mine up with a Falcon colour called 'silver ash' code 57 that was used in early '80s.

Update on the bar risers... 30mm risers off ebay then the mods to the bar covers etc. I bought a littlle set of funnels and the smallest was used as the key filler. Simply cut the bottom bit off and screwed it in after opening up the hole with file and knife. Then used a small bit of ally to mount the front of the bar covers and a larger bit at the back for mounting as well. Looks OK i reckon!

Thats not a bad way to tidy up the hole left after installing riders. The risers look to be a touch higher than the standard police risers.

most risers, including the police ones are 25mm (1") as far as i know, these were 30mm, so yes, a bit higher
