Title: Almost human
Post by: IanB on January 13, 2013, 03:24:03 PM
Starting to believe my trundler is almost human or dog like with it's homing instinct.
Had to second set of dramas today since I bought it but .................it still brought me home.
First was after the Lightning Ridge Far ride when it felt a bit odd coming out of Bris and up the range.
Following morning found it wouldn't move because of a flat rear tyre. (slow leak)
Today a little 230km trundle checking out part of the next SE RTE route when it played up.
Got 50 metres from my driveway and it conked out. It spat and hissed it's way up the last half of the Obi Obi Rd (George Wyer Scenic Route) which is a frighteningly narrow and steep section of bitumen wrestling a misbehaving trundler.
Maybe it didn't like 38-44 dregree riding conditions, haven't been back to check yet.
Going over to the ST1300 tech bit to lodge the symptoms and see which of you gurus have remedy.

Heat SCHMEET!  Look at the fuel/filter.

I rode 1100kms in the same heat around the Burnett Region without missing a beat. Even my iPhone had shut down and left an "overheating warning" msg on the screen - but ST13 performed flawlessly.

Is fuel good/old? Filter?

YoungOne (Tony) found a wasps' nest in his airbox that affected his performance!      :crazy

Plugs ok?  Air filter need a blast out?

That's all I've got for now champ. (Won't mention ECU!) |-i

Cheers, Diesel

Tink I agree young Diesel. Going to roll it out and down the hill to Nambour for a fuel top up.
Then in for a service. Due for one before the nambucca.

As I said in the ST13 thread, fuel/injection cleaners will loosen up gunk in the system which will go into the fuel filter.  My last problem was as simple as that.  If you make to to Nambucca we can discuss  :beer

Another problem that can cause wierd fueling issues is a blocked breather from the tank filler.  It will cause the bike to splutter or conk out after a short ride, start again after a little while, and then conk again once you get going.     Squirt a bit of WD40 into the breather tube and gently blow some low pressure compressed air into the tube, and watch for a dribble of WD40 out the bottom.  This will confirm that it's not blocked, thus eliminating one potential cause.
