The Pickup

Hi all  :hatwave,

Thought I should share my trip on picking up the mighty silver STead on my first bike road trip.

With the great help from fellow OzSTOC members I made up my mind that I was going to fly to Mackay and ride back to Brisbane, how long was it going to take and how comfortable is this bike going to be was yet to be determined.

The path taken is:

Stopped at Sarina, Rockampton and just south of Gympie for fuel.
Lunch was a roadhouse somewhere around Inneston which have the best home made sausage rolls.
Dinner was in Childers where Kym drove up from Brisbane to meet me.

A few stretch, drink and pee stops along the way. The Cruise Control was a god send, the shield was neither here or there, but kept it down 95% of the trip. The other 5% was either for peice and quiet or to avoid the rain drops.

Here are some photo's from the trip:
The transport method there

The view leaving Brisbane

The excitement is kicking in

The view pulling into the seller's driveway, my heart is going through my chest about now

A quick site seeing in Mackay (it's the hospital, don't worry I work in Qld Health so I just thought I'd see some work colleagues office).

Kym see's it for the first time in Childers, Dinner time  :runyay

A welcome site on the journey home

What a beauty

At its new home, (it booted the car out of garage)

Any questions, happy to answer.
Rob.

Yes, great pickup.  :thumbs  Cruise control is something that until you have used it you really miss having it (car or bike)

John, I think you're saying that if you don't have it, you don't know what you're missing.  Anyway, they're great and I use both mine all the time.  Helps me keep a few demerit points up my sleeve, apart from giving the right arm a rest.

The silver ones certainly are beautiful to look at.  You would have been rapt with the smooth ride home.

Congrats on a great choice.  I hope it turns out to be faultless.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Rob, well done mate, great choice, and a beautiful machine!! I'm glad we bullied you into going down this route, and the ride from Mackay to Brisbane as a first time trip is truly awesome. Congratulations on making the right decision, even if we did sort of force your hand  :grin :grin :grin

Looking forward to seeing he bike in the flesh on the 19th!
Cheers,
Paul

My Bad.  :fp  May not be an OzSTOC sticker but I'm guessing it will have one in that very spot soon.  :thumb

We always wrily smile when a Member picks up a new STeed as their next 350 posts allude to sourcing farkles!       :rofl

Good stuff Rob - sounds like you're living the dream.

Wanna go for a ride? I have tomorrow off and a leave pass if you're up for coffee?

Gaz,

Up until the ST got home, the CB shared the garage with Kym's car. It's also Kym's garage.... hehe just got my place a few days ago, we'll see how long the new garage stays tidy, there's many many plans for some work to happen in there  :grin
