Inspection Panel Replacements for ST1300
« on: July 03, 2019, 12:59:07 AM »
G'Day Folks  :hatwave  ST1300 Inspection Ports or Panels seem to be an area which a lot of you are keen on replacing or perhaps acquiring as a spare .. just in case. You know em, the ones that sit just below your knees and tend to fall off now and then.

I have made preliminary investigations into tooling to produce such items, left and right hand in a plastic very similar to the fairing plastic already used.  This will be a big investment - in the region of £2K just for tooling so I am asking how many of you would be interested.

I also would be interested in how much you think is a fair price.
My current estimate is around £30-35 each with a discount of around £10 per pair. These would be ONLY in Black gloss and you could then colour match if you desire.  Needless to say, if there isn't enough call for them it won't be worth me spending on the tooling.  This will be undertaken by a specialist fairing manufacturer who deal with race teams and the like - not some gadgee in a shed with a 3d printer.

I would be grateful if you could respond by email/messenger or message me on the bike-quip site as this post will disappear down the pages in a day or so. I will also leave a poll on the various ST Facebook sites but that can be open to abuse so please try n let me know by the other methods mentioned.

Cheers!

Steve B

I can't say I've ever lost one, so not sure how many you would sell.  Obviously it would need to exceed 100 to be at all viable.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Quite a few comments on some of the Facebook pan sites about the retaining clip failing and loosing the panel and some also have the hard to get fairing protector piece on as well.

I lost one recently - I knocked it off while trying out my new highway pegs.  But so far the local STealers are telling me they can source replacements from Honda. If that's actually true (so far unconfirmed) then there probably wouldn't be a market for an after-market part.

When I had my ST,  I has always planned on getting a second set of the Inspection Covers.   I had planned on putting a series of slits in them, and putting the "slitted" covers on in winter time, to give me some warm air on my knees.    Steve, perhaps "Vented Winter Inspection Covers" might be a product line to explore.    :popcorn

It is amazing how much heat I am getting on my left knee with the maintenance lid missing.

Had my ST1300 for 12 years and still have the originals in place. Can't imagine it will be a huge market.
Getting wind in my hair while I still have some.
