Home in time for Christmas (and anniversary!!) and will continue rehab through transition care program for twelve weeks.  Not quite mastered the wheelie walker yet but have been challenged to try a walking stick.  No great distances yet but physiotherapist reckons that’s next on the list.  Being home means that therapy can now include making a cuppa and faffing around with motorbikes (no riding or driving yet though!)

Apparently putting nuts and bolts together can be therapeutic but then I described how changing headlight bulb on ST1300 was a major exercise that required double joints not just fine hand/eye coordination.  So nuts and bolts only at this stage....

Cheers and many thanks for kind thoughts.  :thumbsup

All the best for a complete recovery, Dave. At least being home for Chrissy is a bonus. Take care.

Good to hear mate, keep it up.  I do think a pretty extreme way to get of cabin duties at next Nat Rally though.

Nuts and bolts, eh?
Maybe you'd get more satisfaction coming to my place and sorting my collections of nuts, bolts, screws and miscellaneous items.
That way you'd get therapy and my tins and bottles of the above would become useful.    ++      :grin

Anyhoo, hang in there and you'll soon be changing ST13 headlight bulbs.

Hard to believe but next week marks three months since my CVA and nearly six weeks since leaving hospital.  Now halfway though a transition care program designed to aid recovery.  Interesting that working on motorcycles is considered therapy since it helps the fine motor skills, trouble is, I’m not sure I had much of those before!  I have had the RHS Tupperware off and fitted a set of switchback running light indicators (thanks Draco and Shiney!) and put it all back together!  Sorry Biggles, but my nuts and bolts didn’t get sorted either!

I’ve now graduated to short stints with a walking stick and very short bits without any aids (although try to stay close to walls, tables, benches etc!).  Overall, balance and coordination are better but still be some time before I can get behind the wheel or on the ST.

Cheers DB

Well done.

Maybe you should get a TIG Welder and make stuff, that will test your fine motor skills..

Also will help to build up upper body strength as well as wrist and upper arm strength..

Sorry Biggles, but my nuts and bolts didn’t get sorted either!

I'll bring you some bottles and tins of mine to practise on.
Good work on the bike!
Sounds like real progress on the ambulatory skills.  It's amazing the stuff we take for granted until they become hard work.

I just thought I should let my OZSTOC friends know I'm going to be out of action for a while.

Just over three weeks ago I had what the medicos describe as a posterior circulatory aschemic(?) stroke, PCAS for short which left me with double vision muscular uncoordination down the right side and little or no balance capability.  Fortunately there was no droop or paralysis, speech or cognitive impairment - ,meaning I could tell them I felt shithouse!  I was lucky it happened when I was at home and not driving the Bruce Hwy like I had been in the morning.  I was also able to call the ambulance myself, as my significant other was in Brisvegas.

Anyway, now on a rehab program in hospital in Bundy, learning to walk and use right hand again as well as stand up straight and not fall over.  I've also graduated to a wheelchair I'm allowed out on the ward in and am learning to pilot a wheelie walker.  (That ride from Stanthorpe to home on the way back from Wooli seems such a long time ago!!!).

Prognosis is pretty good but timeframe is uncertain but I will have all the Qld RTREs in my diary shortly (thanks Shiney for the list).  Please don't take offence if I don't post again for a while as I'm only a single finger typist at the moment!!

In the meantime stay upright (nowadays that means a lot to me!!!)

All the best
Dave B

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, keep it shinny side up. Cheers Paul and Jeannie Gabriel Vic.
