I just ran across this Australian helmet test site.

My new Shoei Ryd got a medium rating, but was beaten by the HJC RPHA 11 which costs half as much! :eek
I always thought they were just basic economical protection. Even the Nolan N87 which is $100 cheaper again got the same rating as the Shoei. >:()
The mantra has always been "Dearer has got to be better".

Thanks Biggles, that's soem good information. I was browsing some helmets a couple of weeks ago, and was surprised at the overall quality and finish of HJC which seem to have gone from "cheap 'n nasty" to a quality product, which is supported by the survey findings.
