John Cadogan has some great automotive vids on Youtube. He is a no-BS guy who really knows his stuff. He is an accredited auto engineer who now makes videos that analyse many hot potato issues. Here's what he found regarding the four different petrols. It confirms what we would expect- you go a bit further on the expensive fuel. You go a bit cheaper on 91. Since the ST1300 goes a long way on a tank, I'll take the 91. If you want to go further, by all means pay 10 or 15 cents a litre more and go further- burn 0.11 litres less per 100 km. :runyay

He's quite entertaining, as well as informative.

We run 91ULP most times in Scarlett and our MP3 250 scooter... and 95PULP in all my small engines - mowers, etc.... they just seem to run better on the higher octane stuff... Cheers, John&Kate

Our 1100 uses 91 and E10 if I happen to be at either a Liberty or a United at time of top up. E10 is cheaper than 91 but at 94 RON is as good as PULP (95).
The 1300 usually gets 95 but on weekends I only have 91 and 98 available so if I have a ride planned then I fill on Friday at the tyre dealer and get the 4 cent discount as well. Otherwise if I have a near empty tank on a weekend I'll use 98 now that the prices have come down. I've used E10 in the 1300 the last time I went to the city in August.
-
The distance travelled on any particular tank can vary from day to day even over the same route.
-
Prefer to use 95. seems to give better mileage than 98, I would also say that 98 a lot more heat comes out of the bike onto legs using 98. I have used 91. it was better than 95 for mileage but the bike didn't sound happy towing the trailer .

Back when I kept records of fuel usage, I found that my 1100 ran the same on 91 or 98, or e10 (or what ever) and the range was the same. The only difference was the distance for $, and 91 ( some time E10 if on special) won.
-
He has also done a vid about tyre wear and pressures, although it relates to cages specifically, but from my experience, his sentiments also work with the 2 wheel variety.

I follow John Cadogan on his AutoExpertTV channel. He has a love / hate relationship with many of his viewers. I found him informative, and whilst I don't think I'm a prude, I do find some of his language a little offensive, and especially unnecessary. So, watch with the volume turned down, if viewing in mixed company - you have been warned.

Cadogan is also a buyers advocate, a friend of a friend used his services when buying a new car, and (reportedly) saved quite a few $000. If I was in the market for a new car, I'd probably give as go.
-
I agree some of his language is unnecessary and adds nothing to his otherwise informative postings.

2c worth. I find him quite refreshing. Always like people that express themselves and happy to call a spade a spade. As for the fuel issue, 1100 runs perfectly on 91. Tried 95 98 E10. No value. 91 does the job without issue. New Beemer is a 98, that's what the book says, so that's what it gets. As per John, just follow manufactures recommendations and there are no issues. As per John again, using E10 is fine but you must be saving at least 8 Cpl at the pump for it to be viable. Just say`in..................BTW where`s the Blue BMW emoticon! :wht11

I agree, but he calls a spade an effing spade.

While KlinkyPete is quite funny, perhaps the responsible Mod could return my Forum Name to StinkyPete, because it seems that I can't. When prompted for my password, there is no input window for me to type it. :well

Stinky,, I thought he wafted in,
Back on topic, travelling I use whatever I pull up at as long as its not diesel.,
in Gympie Caltex Monkland 1st pump had 3 diesel pumps, moved STrangler to another bowser and it only had ron95 so in it went.
I used e10 and also 98 premium when I'm feeling like I don't care about the $$$.
