sun visor question

Hi there guys and gals,

I have just recently change geographical location of my employment from one side of the city to the other side...... same employer just different location!

What used to be a pleasant 'sun at my back' ride to and from work has now turned into an unpleasant 'sun in my face' ride to and from work causing me to squint and tear up due to the strength of the sun up north..

I have been researching external and internal visors for my helmet.

I have seen some great farkles that clip ONTO the VISOR like this one : http://www.rockycreekdesigns.com.au/helmet/super-visor.html&search=SUPER-VISOR .

My issue is that in tropical Nth QLD I rarely ride with my visor down as I like the 'cool'    airflow allowing me to breath non-super heated air and herein lies the problem. All of the peaks etc. seem to clip onto your actual visor which means it must be in the closed ( suffocation) position to be effective.

My helmet does have one of the internal dark visors but I actually hate them.   

Can anyone help me with any ideas or farkles or sites that may provide me with some relief .... and a desire to keep riding to and from work instead of taking the fully air-conditioned vehicle.

My Shoei has the internal sun visor similar to the aviation one and even in 40 degrees I rode with it down and the external visor open approx 25 mm and was plenty cool enough.

Maybe run a piece of electrical tape across the bottom of your visor.
This way when the visor is in the up position the tape will put shade across your eyes and shouldn't impact visibility too much when the visor is down (Or if it does the tape can just be removed.)

Anyway that's my cheapo suggestion

I've done that may times and it's very effective.  You can adjust the visor up and down as required.   In the winter I use two runs of electrical tape across the top of my visor.

What they said. I have 2 runs of 'lecky' tape across the bottom of my tinted visor. I also ride with my visor up on most occasions. You can adjust the height of the visor to block the sun completely. When visor is fully down, you do need to tip your head forward slightly in order to catch a view of the instruments. Costs nothing to give it a go.

Never mind acidic insects, its the Bees and  Dragon flys. A Dragon Fly has an inbuilt targeting system to aim for that spot between the eyes. Just watch them spiral in.

I'm not keen on something which obstructs vision.

Another alternative I've used before I had the built-in was the iridium tinted visor lifted up. It acts as a sunshield and can be partially lowered into the setting sun.

I wear prescription eye wear so eyes are always protected when visor is up. Apart from that, I am one of those weird people who actual enjoy riding behind a raised screen on the 1300.

I have done the electrical tape previously.....kinda looks like crap after a while.

I must slap clarify ...... the riding with the visor down is around town ..... very early does anything get into my face and when I am behind a truck it comes down for the all of 15 seconds I am stuck behind it.

I also wear sunnies etc .

What I am looking for is the effectiveness of the elect tape but looking a little nice and possibly fit for use.

Some one else tole me about removing the internal shades and replacing that with a solid dark coloured replacement.

That could potentially work but ........

Use a strip of carbon fibre wrap across the visor. Lasts longer than tape and looks whole heaps better. Also does a good job of keeping the sun out.

That piece of tape has been on my visor for going on 5 yrs without showing any signs of lifting or deterioration. It could be argued it has spent much of that time in the cupboard 
Maybe I should say I've travelled 30K kms in that time to give a better gauge.

I have a Bell helmet which has an external peak like an off road helmet, but it has a normal full face visor.  When riding into the sun I can usually tip my head down to block the sun, but still see the road.  It's called an MX-9 Adventure and it cost $249.95.  This is the second similarly styled helmet I have bought as I used to work to the east of home and I would get the sun in my eyes in the morning and afternoon.  I tried putting tape on my visor and this blocked my vision, especially of traffic lights, so this is why I looked for a helmet with a peak.  The previous one was made by Zeus helmets. The peak is attached to the helmet and the visor operates like a normal full face, and independently of the peak. Purchased from AMA Yatala.  I checked and they are now $299

Have you looked at the Sunax visor fits inside the helmet always there just above eyes regardless of visor position.
