YAY!! got my number!
« on: January 18, 2016, 12:46:13 PM »
YAY!!

Mr Kneebone emailed me with my IBA member number!

63008

My SS1600K and separate SS2000K have been approved!

It is a great honor to have you on board. Below is the wording that we intend to put on your certificate.

************* This is to Certify that on the 29th of September 2015, Dave “Spanner” Bowtell rode a 1999 Honda ST1100A a total of 1,658 kilometres (1,030 miles) within the state of Queensland in less than twenty-four hours starting in Townsville, continuing on to Mackay, Rockhampton, Calliope, Biloela, Toowoomba, and Brisbane before ending in Nambour while participating in the Queensland SaddleSore 1600K. The Queensland SaddleSore 1600K was conducted under very strict guidelines set forth by the Iron Butt Association. Only a handful of riders from around the world have managed to solve the challenges such a gruelling ride involves. *******

****** This is to Certify that on the 6th of October 2015, David G. Bowtell rode a 1999 Honda ST1100A a total of 2,101 kilometres (1,304 miles) in less than twenty-four hours starting in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; continuing on to Gunnedah, New South Wales; Goondiwindi, Queensland; Wandoan, Queensland; Rockhampton, Queensland; and Mackay, Queensland before ending in Townsville, Queensland while participating in the Australia SaddleSore 2000K. The Australia SaddleSore 2000K was conducted under very strict guidelines set forth by the Iron Butt Association. Well done Spanner . . . .

I've not given IBA rides much attention but I regularly Ride over to Adelaide to see my daughter and frequently do 1,200 ks in under 12 hours . . I wonder if that fits in to an IBA category and how one goes about claiming for it?

STroppy, the minimum for an IBA ride is 1600km in under 24 hours.

A detour which adds 400 km to the journey would make it qualify.

The true minimum is 1000 US miles, so the minimum is 1610 km.
Cheers,
Gary

Just do your 1,200 k's in 12 hours, then have a sleep for 7 hours, then it's just a little 410 ks in under 5 hours :thumbs

Not required- just do something like Gadget or Shiney says.  You're obviously capable of punching out the kays.

Congrats Spanner on achieving your IBA number in style.    :thumbs

I suppose one could just ride from Yass to Gundagai 5 times each way, ten all up in 24 hours, top it off to the 1610k mark . . ? Easy peasy . . Still think that 1200 ks in 12 hours is much tougher then 1600 in 24 . . I used to drive 5280 ks in 72 hours without any problems . .wonder if I could ride that now . . Only 50 years older . . Hmm maybe not but back then I did it for a reason to get from a to b . . No reason now . .

Truth is Biggles, I doubt very much if I could ride nearly 6,000 ks in 72 hours . . Getting too old and don't have the inspiration.

But great to see Spanner getting his IBA number, he has done well.

I do like Shiney's idea of doing the 1200, having a 7 hour kip and punching out the other 410ks in 5 hrs . . Must look into that . . .

The IBA certifiers aren't too keen on multiple "laps".  You would need to bounce it off the head sherang before doing it that way.
No harm in doing one big lap.
