IBA Motels
« on: September 08, 2014, 09:30:10 PM »
Some prefer 4hrs in a motel room with a shower......others a quiet roadside rest area atop a table for 20 mins  :grin

Post your preferred IBA Motel locations here so as to help others researching their LD Riding needs...... locations from a millions stars down to 2 stars  :think1

Here's a classic example in NT, even has off street undercover parking and an alfresco dining area.

Hotels/Motels aren't a place I usually go to for any reason but on our ride to Silverton in 2012 we were surprised to see the Olary Hotel up and running. Even more surprising was the Ulysses sign out the front so a bike friendly place in the middle of nowhere.

This section of  Barrier Hwy is also part of the Sydney to Perth route so anyone heading to a national rally could also use it as a stop over.

That's a 5 Star one, mate.

Might need lat/long to put it into a plan, though.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

This little bike friendly pub in Canberra is more my style.  A tip, when the valets tell you how much it is to park the bike securely downstairs tell them you'll pay only if they park it. They'll give you the code for free.  :thumbs

It's also a nice place to drop in for High Tea if you are riding through and feeling a bit peckish.

The eastern entry to Kynuna Qld at the rodeo grounds.
183 km short of a ss2000/24 I had sort of had enough of roos and had one strike back east of Longreach by then.
A rest for a few hours and then back on the master plan of the 25/36 to Barkly Hs.

West end of town has a nice upmarket shelter rest area...only 800m further than this dusty bit of real-estate.

This one is at the race track in Narromine NSW, Narromine has 24 geese, many roosters with dicky clocks, 40 od barking dogs and this nice undercover IBAM.

Here's one of my rest stops that I use when going over west. I haven't spent the night there yet but there's always another night in the future that I may have to. It's about halfway between Kimba and Wudinna. http://goo.gl/maps/IK8MV

Thora NSW - between Dorrigo and Bellingen on Waterfall Way offers this great little freebie with covered table/chair sets, well grassed camping areas toilet block, and a general store (out of pic to the left) with one of those really old things called a public telephone.     :o

When I went to Kimba yesterday I stayed in the free camping ground.

Free or though usually an expected donation is required. You can stay for up to five nights and showers and toilets provided but no power.
