Hello Dave
Just watched your video - a brilliant piece of work - doing the assembly with one hand and videoing with the other.
I wish that I had not made the error of leaving the locking pin too long, I actually have a special gauge to check this but failed to do so on my last batch. I should not make excuses but I had a rush of ST1100 orders just before Christmas and ran out of stock. Spent a couple of days in a freezing cold garage making the last batch of 10.
It was this last batch that I made the mistake and dispatched about 3 - 4 of these faulty ones before I got a complaint from a guy in the USA.
Initially I thought the guy must have done something wrong as I have supplied hundreds of these without any problems.
Having a remaining stock of 7 on my desk I checked them all. OH SHIT - everyone was oversize by 1.5mm to 2.0mm.
To say I was gutted is an understatement.
I immediately sent the guy a replacement and emailed the other 2 about the error ( you being one of them ) offering a replacement.
You kindly saved me a lot of money by modifying your own - THANK YOU so much - it costs me over £5 just for postage to Oz.
I think the other person put a small washer between the brake mating faces rather than remove the 2mm. I think your modification is better as the washer will reduce the number of threads that the locknut has to secure the assembly.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience and congratulations on a superb video.

I noticed that in the process of modification a small amount of paint was removed.

As a token of my appreciation for the way you tried to make everything ok and producing a video as well, I have today put a new complete replacement in the post to you (keep the old one with my compliments). If you do a new video with someone else doing the camera work you could use the replacement brake to make life a bit simpler.

Perhaps you have a mate who could use your old one after doing a bit of touch up paint work.

Thanks again

Kind regards
Tony

Ok.

tell you what

we might make this a prize for some competition or another for our club members who own a ST1100.

i dont know what sort of competition though

Video poetry about their beloved bike, a photo of where they might use the pendle break, a short story involving the break or maybe even a song and dance skit at our upcoming national rally which is being held in Towoomba in march this year.

Just want to update this thread.

It has been nearly 12 months since I installed the Pendel Parking Break.

Just thought I'd let you know how it has performed.

I would say I use this little device at least four times a day and mostly i use it unconsciously .

It is that good and that useful that it has become part of the bike  that is 'just there and just used'!

I have used it to help stop the bike rolling down a hill when I needed to park on a steep slop in conjunction with the gears.

I have used it with a trailer when stopped on some of the horrible hills in and around the Sunny Coast. Brilliant!

I use it every morning when I get on the bike and take it off the side stand while warming it up ..... My street has a slight slip and this makes my morning so easy.

I have used it when I have been two up on a hill and needed to adjust my helmet strap. On side road with a forward facing hill and no chance of holding the weight with my feet or turning bike off and putting in gear.

All in all this would have to be my most used and invisible farkle!

My only negative is that the bolt that holds in place should have been a rust resistant stainless steel as it has surface rust and drags down the looks a little bit that is so seriously not an issue that I thought twice about even mentioning it.

Again Tony well done on a bril design and great workmanship.

Cheers

Hi Spanner
Thank you for the feedback and kind words.
I envy you the time of year and being upside down - just starting winter here brrrr.
Sorry about the rust on the screw head - perhaps a touch of black paint required. I did not like the look of a bright shiny screw head as it drew your attention to the device, it was important to me that it looked like OEM.
Thanks again for taking the time out to describe your uses - the best one for me is road junctions, traffic lights and jams - with arthritis in the hands it is a great relief to rest and stretch the right hand even if it is for just a few minutes.
Have a great Spring a Summer with some fantastic biking.
Regards
Tony

I have fitted one of Tony's brakes to my ST1300.   To combat the rust problem, I've re-polished it on a linisher, greased the shaft, and painted the head with "Cold Galv".   So far it's stopped the rusting.  :thumb   I've been thinking about turning up a new one from a stainless steel socket head bolt.
