Shiney exhaust
« on: January 31, 2012, 11:10:44 PM »
I decided to get a new exhaust on the beaST as other vehicles on the road seem to have difficulties noticing me  :cuss and a bit more noise seam to help them (and give the :blu13 a bit of a rumble :grin )

After looking around and checking reviews and so on I, cam across the Delkevic exhaust. The Australian supplier sells them for $700  (including delivery) through ebay and is located in QLD  :thumb  :thumb

Anyway I ordered a set of the 18” Carbon ones in the morning and they arrived by courier that arvo, they have a few other designs for the 1100 and 1300 but I liked the look of the carbon   :thumbs

Now I’m no mechanic  :( but I was able to change the original for the new ones in a short time without any issues  :runyay

They sound awesome, weigh bugger all and look a treat, anyway check out the pics, and since we can now link video  :think1 I’ll have to do a sound clip some time

Update
First remove the old exhaust cans
This is done by loosing the two bolts where the exhaust can connects to the exhaust pipe just under the rider’s footpads

Then removing the 2 bolts holding the can to the bike.

The old can will now just slip out.

(The new exhaust can setup includes (for each side) exhaust can and a small piece of pipe, and 1 clamp, 1 strap)
Connect the pipe to the can and attach the small clamp to hold them together (just loosely so any minor adjustments while installing can be made)

Slide the other end of the pipe into the exhaust pipe under the rider’s footpads.

Now place the large strap around the can and bolt it to the bike using the original rear mounting point.

(When you attach the strap around the can it will sit slightly to one side as can be seen in the pictures below (pictures taken of the accelerator side can). I found the best fit was to attached the strap on the tyre side of the bracket.

Now tighten all the bolts (the little strap and the 2 bolts connecting the can to the exhaust under the rider’s footpad.)

Repeat for the other side

]

Enjoy the new sound :grin

Nice pipes Shiney,

by the sound of you're post you are happy with the new cans? I have looking at them myself but was unsure how they would go, I don't want them to be too loud.

I like the stainless steel round myself, how long did it take you to install? :rd13

Very stylish Shiney!   :thumb  They really compliment the look of your bike.  Just wondering if you've noticed any change in performance?

It may make a little difference.  Here is a link to a dyno run on a Two Brothers exhaust, which may be a bit louder though from what I hear.

And I am sure all ST13 owners have seen this

Yes very happy,  :grin they have a removable baffle so if you don't want it too loud they can be left in. |-i
It took me 1 or 2 hours but I'm not very good with the mechanical stuff and had to locate the right sockets, :-[ but it was easy  :thumb

All up it's 4 bolts per side. Slide the old pipes out, slide the supplied pipe to the can and tighten the clamp (easy)  :thumb then slide it in to where the original pipe was on the bike and tighten the bolts, place the clamp around the can and bolt it to the bike where the original was attached, have a beer  :beer

Appears to be a little performance boost but it may just be me riding faster, enjoying the sound  :wink1 :wink1

I haven't ever had them scrape :eek

:think1 :think1   I have had the bike lay down on it's side :fp but the exhaust didn't touch the ground just the tipover wing and pannier, so shouldn't be an issue :thumbsup

Nice looking pipes Shiney, I was looking at Delkavic pipes for my Blackbird when i had one. They're a good price and I hav'nt heard any adverse comments about them.
I've got a set of staintune pipes for the St that I hav'nt fitted yet, I quite like the low noise originals at the momement. The staintunes came with the bike when I bought it.

more of a factory look with a better exhaust note. however looking on ebay there does not seem to be an Australian supplier any more.  :think1
