Title: Shinko Tyres
Post by: Williamson on July 27, 2014, 04:53:22 PM
Mentioned elsewhere, got some Shinko's from Jake Wilson - $240.00 for front and rear - ordered, paid (PayPal) & delivered in five working days.  Removed and refitted wheels myself, local tyre dealer fitted tyre to rims for a slab of VB.

New Shinko's better than old Bridgestone's (OEM), only got 8,500km out of back one, 11,000km out of front one.

Badly feathered (?) scollaped (?):

Went out of shape very quickly:

I put this down to shyte tyres, lots of km's towing the trailer, and AWESOME power of the Mighty ST1300.

The flat band around the circumference might explain why the handling was a bit "off", now much better.

Nigel, Hendo, I'm ready for some more gravel roads now.

Looks to me like you got about 3000 kays more than you should have after they were worn out.    :eek
I'd be inclined to stick with your first reason, although the last reason shouldn't be ignored.    >:()

It does not seem that bad considering the towing. Which Bridgestones were they, as dual compound tyres can get funny wear patterns.  The sets of Shink Verges I used on the ST1100 would easily get 15,000kms plus, solo riding, but with towing expect closer to 10,000kms or so. Lionel did a bit of towing with his Shinkos so have to ask him if he recorded the distances - he did like making sure the cords were still in there sometimes!

8000/9000 is about usual for the Bridgestone 23s rear I've used in the past. The GT spec almost made 10,000 with a slightly stiffer sidewall. Mostly two up riding and probably 50 percent towing for me.

The centre wear pattern is more due to more straight roads than anything else. Even with a harder centre compound it still wears quicker than the sides unless you have a lot of bends to ride through from what I've seen on my bike.
