Title: Future National Rallies - 2022 and beyond.
Post by: ST2UP on January 14, 2021, 03:42:30 PM
With the unfortunate cancelation of National Rally at Mudgee twice now, and a number of members attended potentially twice for an informal RTE we have decided to move on from the Mudgee venue.

Could I ask anyone or a couple of members in close proximity of each other if they would like to submit a very basic submission to host a National Rally.....note I said Very Basic  ;-* Until we require further information or have more questions.

The NatRally concept is relatively simple, and needs only broadly tick a few boxes:

Venue:

Has a few accommodation options from Cabins, perhaps a Bunkhouse, and Camping sites. A undercover gathering area for the masses, and perhaps some outdoor shaded areas. Historically Regional and Rural towns have offered a positive rally experience.

Facilities:

A shopping facility small Coles,Woolies,IGA and/or a bottle shop in walking distance.

A suitable licenced venue for the seated Rally dinner that can provide a basic 2 course meal at around the $25 per head mark and a short distance from the accommodation.

Naturally some cool riding roads in the area, splendid scenery and a venue for a RTE on the Saturday about an hours travel from the accommodation.

Find all this and a time of year with riding weather that suits the majority and you have a cracking good NatRally location.  :thumbsup

Here are some very broad numbers on what each state could expect for a NatRally to assist you with your research.

WA. 40 (2016)
NT. 30  (never)
QLD. 90 (2015, 2018)
NSW/ACT 90 (2012, 2017)
TAS 30  (2019)
SA. 50 (2013)
Vic  75  (2014)

So have a quiet chat between a few of your ozSToc cohorts and see what you can put together....then PM me your basic plan so we can throw it around and get back to you.

We vaguely discussed it at our RTE's in late 2019 not knowing what 2020 was going to bring and thinking SA would be probably be due for one in 2021.  One location suggested was Mannum, which is where our next RTE is so it'll no doubt be brought up again then.

Where to have a NatRally?  What a dilemma!  Whatever destination is selected not all of the members will be satisfied all of the time.  We are just never going to have a destination a fair and equitable travel distance for all.  Members in WA, NT, FNQ and TAS are going to be most disadvantaged - probably that order.

If an alternate destination is to be chosen, and as (I presume) this is mainly due to existing, and future possible COVID travel restrictions, a destination will need to be selected to minimise the need for members to cross state borders.

To me, this immediately means that WA, NT, TAS, QLD, SA and VIC are omitted from contention (as most members would need to cross multiple state borders); this leaves NSW.

From a personal perspective, NSW & SA would be okay, but the risk of extra border crossings to enter and leave the other states or NT would be too great, and the additional logistics crossing Bass Strait would be a nightmare.

So yes, this leave NSW, and that being the case, Mudgee is better than many others.  Perhaps the Mudgee BIG4 people deserve our attendance , perhaps some members that may / will loose a modest deposit, can have that converted to a credit for a future booking.

This is an easy decision for me, particularly if it involves handing over all / any organising to others.

Big4 has kindly just issued us a credit. Having grown up in Sydney I will be back visiting once travel is easier and shall visit Mudgee one way or another.
Happy for the next rally to be any where.
Being retired, whether it takes 4, 5 or 6 days to ride there doesn't worry me.
Easy access to a major airport is handy as often Theresa will FiFo or just Fi or Fo.

If the Vaccine roll out goes well, by 2022 options should :X much better.

Selfishly, Mt Barker SA, as my brother lives there and we're in the very early planning to motorhome to there in the 1st half of 2022. :grin + SA is due for another.

Tin Can Bay, Qld was a great 2 night weekender in September this year with the Spyder Enthusiasts.

My home region of Northern Rivers NSW, Kyogle, Casino, Lismore, with day trip to Tenterfield for lunch up the Bruxner Hwy. Spring or Autumn.

spent a day in a motorbike friendly town - Crows Nest Q... the Crows Nest Tourist Park has it's own Club Function Room, Restaurant and Cafe... about 23x cabins of different sizes... ensuite and flat powered van sites... the park map is on their website.
also has the Crows Nest Motel across the road, as the Tourist Park is not huge... motel description on their website too. Cheers, John&Kate.

2023 venue could be a good discussion topic at Mannum?

Yes, and between now and Mannum, so I'll start it off with "Mudgee", I think we should try and resurrect it.

Mudgee would be good but for me the date is as important.
There is a big Indian gathering in Siiverton on 29th April.
Ulysses AGM is 1-7 May in Lismore.
Sometime in May after the Ulysses AGM would be good.

May is potentially not the best time for weather.

May in Mudgee is great for Eskimos.  It needs to be mid-Spring or mid-Autumn.

You're tucked in bed at those times.  The fresh nights mean no clouds, then beautiful sunny days, perhaps some in the 20's, might need to pack a summer jacket.

Pics from the Armidale Express 12 October 2012, methinks Guyra in Spring would also be outta the question.
