Drift and Stealth...

So I puts the camera on the bike and look out no friggin remote. Yeah shes lost'. So I gets another one from this bloke Link: http://www.camzilla.com.au/
and a couple of days later it turns up. So me being lousy and not wanting to lose it again came up with this. See pic. I put some Velcro on the bottom of the camera so when she's put away the remote can be stuck to it. The remote already has Velcro on it as this is where it sticks to the top of the clutch fluid resevoir. Now I know a few people have these so it may save them losing the bloody thing.
Oh yeah if you want a camera that works check these Drift cameras out. Their the best I've seen, and I've had a few including that trendy piece of crap and the Drift is the best of the lot

My remote for the 170 Stealth is velcroed to the bike between the handle bars.

I found that the little plastic latch on the battery door my Stealth had broken off a few weeks a go. I just contacted the shop I bought it from and they are going to replace the door for free, I just have to go in there and collect it. Its in Midland WA. You just dont get service like that very often.

Has anyone used the smaller HD model, and if so, how does it compare in quality to the other models. I know Terry has the X170 and Brock has the HD Stealth.The smaller HD is a fair bit more expensive........BUT, IS IT WORTH IT...........any thoughts fellas!

The stealth isnt very big/heavy, I dont know that the extra 120 beer tickets is worth it. The replaceable lens is a neat idea, but if you are going to use it in a damaging environment, get the water proof housing (it has replaceable lenses as well)

The stealth has one bad thing about it. When used on helmet, it takes a very clear pic of the Speedo/Tacho. Not such a good idea me thinks.

The piece of Crap is called a GoPro. Just a worthless piece of junk. The battery life is rubbish, and even if its just turned on and not filming. They have no playback feature, no view screen, no remote, you can't see what your filming, can't use it with gloves on, be buggered if you can turn it on and off if your moving, just junk and for the price you pay ??????????, just brubbish compared to the Drift X170.

After reading a recent post on Drift Cameras I started searching the net to see what prices I could find if buying from overseas.
I came across a web site, Alibaba.com, that is a Global Trade Site that can be used to source suppliers of Drift Cameras from China, Hong Kong, etc.  I found that on the site there are 124 suppliers of these cameras over there and the prices are very, very, much cheaper than buying here. For instance the Drift HD Stealth here in AUS sells for $269......they are available through them for $120 US, but because they are wholesalers you must buy 10 cameras, or $110 each (buy 15).....the newer and smaller HD Camera sells here for $399 and they are available for $140 but you must buy 15. All of the suppliers (124) listed have similar prices on the Cameras. Information is available on Alibaba.com on all suppliers listed.

It all looks very legit to me!

Diesel, I'm wondering if the powers to be might be prepared to look further into this and perhaps consider a bulk buy.  Because the value would exceed $1000 we'd be up for Duty and GST but that wouldn't amount to that much.

You can still buy the standard one through that Alibaba web site and they are even cheaper than the HD ones. If you buy 10 they are $110 each or for 15 they are $105 each. I believe HD would be they way to go though. I've looked at the places that they're available from in AUS and you just can't compare the prices to those from Asia!

Mate, what I said is just what I and others I know have said. Some sware by the GoPro but for me and a couple of mates, compared to the Drift its just junk. For me its more important to have things that do what I want them to do, when I want them to do it and if it dosn't, its just rubbish and I don't care what others say or what Brand name it has on it.

I'm not suggesting we look into buying them though because the maps would be different, but it's interesting when you consider the cheapest price available in AUS is $799.

The Zumo seems to be expensive everywhere. That is the first time I have seen a cheaper price. Garmin seems to be good at enforcing high prices.

Think you can still get the Garmin lifetime update for around the $150.00 mark. Maybe you can update the overseas model with Australian maps. Seem to think that the warrenty may be country related????

I bought the Aus maps for my UK 550.  Can't remember how much they were but they were quire a lot - £150 or something.  And that's just for the maps, lifetime updates will be extra if I go for them....

Very Important Tip,

If like me you use a big powerfull suction cup to hold your camera, make sure you tie a strong tether of some sort to it. At some stage the suction cup will probably let go, and you dont want $300 of camera smaking into the road at 100+KPH. Mine came off yesterday, but it was tethered so it just bumped around on the fairing til I could pull over. Also, keep the string short, a tether that lets the camera hit the gound or wheels aint no good.

Here are some examples from my camera. Resolution was 720 @ 60 fps taken at arounf 0530, just to give an idea of the low light performance. I leave my camera on the night setting all the time, as I think it gives a better picture
