ST1300 GPIs and Speedo Healer

There is a lot of discussion on FB about GPIs and Speedo Healers. I have just added this to the discussion.

From 2008 St1300s have a different ECU. The Healtech GPI is plug and play from 2008 onwards all be it the plug is a little hard to find and a simple calibration is required. A couple of years ago I purchased 2 Healtech Speedo healers. I have fitted one to my GL1800 and it works well. It is a plug and play and I used a GPS to calibrate it. Remember that whatever changes they make to the speedo they do the same to your odometer. My GL1800 speedo is now close to reading correct but the odometer now reads low. For the GL1800 I think my speedo healer is set at about 5.9% decrease. I have now purchased an MC Cruise for my ST1300 and selected the option to include a speedo healer so will soon be selling my Healtech Speedohealer. GPIs and Speedo healers work completely separately. Speedo healer goes in series with the signal from the pulse generator to the speedo. The GPI reads engine rpm and speed and by comparing the two indicates what gear you are in. So the GPI does doe not indicate correctly when the engine is not directly connected to the rear wheel, ie in neutral or the clutch pulled in.

I fitted a Speedo Healer not long after I bought my 2005 ST1300 last year.
It wasn't overly hard to install but did involve removing the right hand side fairing.

I'm actually not concerned with the possibility of the odometer slightly under-reading now as there was a fair chance it wasn't spot on beforehand as there is, I believe, a +/- 4 % leeway when it comes to required odometer accuracy.
At the end of the day if it does under-read it will have slightly less K's on the clock when it comes time to sell... :grin
