Title: Repair plastic mirror cover
Post by: Copernicus d ferret on July 11, 2016, 09:24:49 PM
Just bought this 1999 ex police and found it needs some work to meet my standards.
Just put back in place a piece broken from left mirror.
I used 2part epoxy and found that degreaser is great for removing excess and cleaning fingers.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

The pic when clicked on is the right way up. some times the place holder ( for want of a better term) pic gets messed up.

Thanks Brock,
I'll try to remember to post another pic when it's sanded and painted.
Have you ever found degreaser to remove epoxy resin ?

Brock,
Any idea on what would be best to fill the cracks, that's easy to sand ?

Or do I just sand it right back and start again?

Brock please help,
When I picked up the bike it started, when I got it home on a trailor it started a bit weaker twice, now it won't start even when jumper cabled to a car. What's your ideas, I recon the batts dead.
What do you think.
I've tried charging but it seams to die rapidly after one try.

That does sound like a battery but could be the alternator. Do you have a multimeter? A good battery should measure around 12 to 12.4 V with everything off. When the engine is running it should be around 13.7 V to charge it.
It's chalet to else the battery, or if you are near someone with a similar battery, borrow one.

on crank, the battery should not drop below 10 volts. If the clock has reset, its a dead battery.

As for the cracks, you could try an epoxy cement .. JB Weld, available in Jaycar. its supposed to be pretty good, been meaning to glue up some broken bits on my bike with it.

Thanks all for your info.
As for starting it I've had it on jumper cables and still didn't start.
The previous owner told me when he plunged in the guiv top box lights it blew a fuse. I've covered what short them out and it hasn't blown a fuse.
Is there any way having this plugged in could stop it from starting.
I've had the battery checked and it's all good.
The only thing I've changed since it started last was to fix and plug in the top box light.

Who checked the battery and how.

A battery has to be fully charged, and then it needs to be load tested (usually full start current) to see if battery voltage is above 10 volts. The other way is to discharge the battery at a known current to see if it remains above 10 volts at the amp hour rating (IE 9 amps for two hours = 18 amp hour).

P.S. I know batteries, I supervise the maintenance of aircraft batteries for Military and Civilian aircraft.

Yeah, battery was load tested by a battery tech.
